As soon as I tell both Maria and Metisha that Margot has been kidnapped, Metisha bursts into tears. Despite the sadness I also feel, I look at her with pity. That girl’s always acting like she doesn’t know how to be anything else apart from being a bitch but I know that in there is a big heart full of love and warmth. So also does Margot.

Her name makes my heart ache. If someone had told me yesterday morning that this morning, Margot would be nowhere to be found, I would have declared the person mad and in need of immediate medical attention. But here we are now, with no Margot to call Metisha an idiot for living her hair down even though the wind is blowing strongly.

“We can’t just sit here and cry like as if we are mourning her death.” Maria’s voice, which always carries an air of authority no matter how soft she’s speaking, snaps me out of my thoughts. It seems to have the same effect on Metisha as she quickly wipes her tears and looks at Maria with hope, like as if she has suddenly become her Lord and personal saviour.

“What should we do?” Metisha asks in an unMetishalike tone.

Maria looks at us and with a resigned look on her face, she says, “Firstly, we should inform Philip.”

Metisha and I look at each other, worry written all over our face. We all know how precious Margot is to Philip. How he would react to this news, I don’t know and I am pretty sure, neither does Metisha and Maria.

“We can’t call Philip. You know how much he loves her,” Metisha says, uncrossing her legs.

“And then what? We simply hide the news of his daughter’s kidnap? Let me ask you this, Metisha, if you were Philip, would you want this kind of thing hidden from you?”

One thing I almost forgot to mention is that Metisha and Maria aren’t, to put it in a nice way, fans of each other. Maria doesn’t like the fact that Margot sees men as something to be played with for a short period of time and not to be kept for a long duration not to mention forever, while Metisha doesn’t fancy Maria because, well, in her words, not mine, Maria behaves like someone who came straight out of the BCs when it was believed that a woman’s main purpose in life was to get married and have children.

There’s a saying that ‘Opposites attract’ but that particular saying is proved hundred percent wrong when it comes to Maria and Metisha, they don’t attract even though they are vividly opposites.

“Of course not, Maria. All I’m trying to say is that the fact that it would hurt him should also be taken into consideration,” Metisha states calmly whilst trying to keep her hair down. I remember I have an extra hair tie in my handbag which I had kept in case the wind gets too strong.

I open my bag, take out the hair tie and extend it to her, “We should call Philip,” I say as she takes it. “Like Maria has said, it’s not okay to decide not to tell him because we don’t know how he would react.” I proceed to dial his number when Maria stops me, I look at her and this is when I notice her eyes are full of unshed tears. “I will call him, you’ve done so much already.”

I give a small nod as she takes her cellphone and calls Philip. For Metisha and I’s benefit, she puts it on speaker. “Philip,” She calls, more cautiously than softly when he picks up.

“Maria.” His voice, filled with ecstasy reminds me of where Margot got her chirpiness from. “How are you doing on this beautiful day?”

“I am fine, Philip.” Maria says, her voice coherent but then blows her cover by sniffing.

“Is everything okay?” Philip asks, now worried.

“Where are you?”

“In my office. What is it, Maria? You are starting to scare me.” Maybe it’s fatherly instinct, I don’t know, but what Philip says next shocks me, “Is everything okay with my baby girl?”

Maria looks at us, as if to ask us to assist her in breaking  the news to him but then mans up and says, “Philip, Margot’s missing.”

“How!” I quiver as He bellows into the speaker. I see Maria do the same as tears threaten to fall from her eyes. “Just tell me where you are, Philip. I will come explain everything.”

“No,” Philip says, his voice devoid of emotion, “I will come to you.” I hear him yell at someone in a tone full of venom. I am sure whoever it is would be wishing he weren’t there at the time. “You are at home, right?”

“Philip, you seriously don’t have to come. I will…”

“I fucking said I am coming so what’s your problem, woman?” He roars and two pairs of eyes along with mine widen.

“Okay,” Maria says quietly as Philip hangs up on her.

“Maria…” I call, looking for words to make her feel better after the phone call.

She seems to notice my struggle, “It’s okay. I’m fine.” She says, giving me a sad smile.

“What do we do now?” Metisha asks, wiping her tears.

“We try and call some more people to ask if they’ve seen her and then…” I answer.

“We wait.” Maria completes.

Not less than fifteen minutes after, a car is heard honking. Exactly at that moment, Maria’s phone begins to ring. She picks up and in not more than ten seconds, hangs up.

“He is here.” Maria says as she takes the remote control she kept on the table beside her and opens the gate with it. A wine Rolls-Royce comes into sight and bypasses the garage to pull up in front of the house.

Philip steps out and I tense. However, it confuses and surprises me when, instead of anger, I see a big smile on his face. The reason becomes known as a lady with a messy bun, dressed in red and black stripped sweater dress steps out after him. I blink up to six times and in my peripheral vision, I can see Metisha rubbing her eyes furiously, probably to be sure they are seeing right.

Is this a dream or am I in fact, staring at Margot?

The three of us; Maria, Metisha and I stare at the duo that is now approaching us, in bewilderment.

“Are you Margot?” is the first thing Metisha asks as they reach us.

“Of course I am, Idiot. How many times do I have to tell you I’ve got no doppelganger?” If I was earlier in doubt of whether it’s Margot or not, this statement clears my doubt. This is definitely Margot Johns, my always vivacious friend.

Maria stands up and engulfs Margot in a bear hug. “What happened? I almost went crazy thinking something bad might have happened to you.”

Metisha and I also stand up and join the hug, turning it into a sort of group hug.

“We were so worried about you, Margie,” I tell her.
“Called your phone but it kept going to voicemail. That was what made me suspect that something was wrong because you had stated in the text that you will get in touch today.” Metisha says as we separate.

Margot’s eye brows shot up. “A text? I never sent a text. That bastard must have done that before getting rid of my phone.”

“The one who kidnapped you?” Philip asks, uttering his first words since getting here.

“Yes, Dad.”

“So, you were actually kidnapped?” Maria and I ask simultaneously just as Metisha exclaims “What!”

“Almost kidnapped.” She then proceeds to explain how she had gotten drugged and then met herself in a strange room and then later got to know that she had been saved by a stranger who brought her to his house.

“We had a fight…”

“You had a fight with the person who saved you from getting kidnapped!” Metisha squeals.

“So I asked him to drop me off.” Margot continues like as if Metisha didn’t just squeal. “Luckily for me, we had almost gotten here before that happened. Dad saw me on his way here and picked me up.” Margot takes a deep breath “So, that’s the summarized version of all what happened.”

“I will definitely make sure I find that excuse of a human being that dared lay his filthy hands on my daughter,” Philip says, his face full of wrath.

“I trust you will,” Maria says with a tone full of confidence.

Philip’s face softens as he looks at Maria. “Maria, I am sorry for the way I spoke earlier,” He says contritely.

“It’s fine, Philip. I understand,” Maria says empathetically.

I stand up and grab Margot by the upper arm. “Come on, Margie. After everything that happened, you need to shower, eat and rest.”

"And you need to tell us about the mystery man who saved you but you decided to be an ungrateful human being to,” Metisha chips in, making Margot roll her eyes.

As we head inside, I can hear Philip telling Maria how lucky Margot is to have friends like Metisha and I.

I smile at that.

We are also lucky to have a friend like Margot.

In fact, the three of us are lucky to have one another.
