XIV

After the incident at breakfast Elizabeth and Alfread decided to spend their extra time at the church praying to be liberated from the spirits; Alfread also took the time to catch up on his confessions.

I made my way from client to client dealing with mostly cases of influenza. As the sun began to set we all decided it would be best if we spent the night in an inn. I passed the man a few pounds in gold coins and he slid a bronze key over the counter.

We climbed up the stairs and I unlocked the door to the room. Once inside we made out the sleeping arrangements. Elizabeth and her mother would share a bed with Alfread in the other and I on the sofa.

We all settled in and soon were all fast asleep. when morning when morning came we packed up and made the walk home. Alfred and Mademoiselle Brodure left to run a few errand leaving Elizabeth and I alone.

"Elizabeth darling," I said to get her attention.

"Yes?"

"I've been thinking that perhaps we should move the wedding up."

"You mean get married sooner?"

"Precisely."

"I think that a grand idea," she replied happily.

"You do?"

"Yes, It makes sense I mean we're already in the same house."

"When should we be married darling?"

"As soon as possible, but give us a few days to invite our guests and such."

"Of course."

"Oh it will be absolutely perfect! We'll have the ceremony at the chapel then we'll hold a small party at home."

"Sounds lovely."

"Yes, yes it does," she said looping her arm through mine.

I placed a chaste kiss on her forehead and we continued are walk home.
