V: you really wanna listen to it?

He asked and he nodded.

Adi: I really wanna listen to it chachu. I wanna know who was that girl who just changed you! I wanna know why you took this decision

V: OK so. Here you go.

With glossy eyes and a sad smile on his face he started story a story which will forever be stored in his heart.

V: OK students so as I got the news that there will be a new student joining us from today. So will you please introduce yourself to the class?

He announced and also requested that new student to come forward and introduce herself but no-one came forward.

V: who's the new student here?

He asked but still got no answer. Annoyed, he stared at the door where a girl in her early twenties was standing.

With a bubble gum in her mouth, twirling her hair and a playful wink from her doe shaped eyes. She was like a free bird.

V: who are you miss?

R: your new student. Sirrrr

She stressed at the word sir and it annoyed him . It hasn't even been a minute since he saw her but there was some strange feeling he got in his heart by seeing her wink.

V: you're late miss!

R: Haa I know that.

She shrugged as if it wasn't a big deal.

V: every student should be punctual in my class. Understand this very clearly

She pouted which made her look adorable.

R: OK fine we will see. Now can I come in or you're planning to keep me standing here? Hayee my legs will pain if I keep standing

V: drama queen

He muttered under his breath and called her inside.

V: so miss please introduce yourself to the class

R: haven't you heard that before asking anyone's name you should tell your name first.

He muttered few curses under his breath and with a fake smile he gave his introduction to her.

V: I am Vansh raisinghania, professor of the class you're standing in and I teach chemistry.

R: so my name is ridhima malhotra, nice to meet you.

She forwarded her hands for him to shake and it shocked him. No student had ever been so frank to him, she was the first one. But none otherness he did and felt some kind of spark.

V: please take your seat and next time don't eat a chewing gum in my class.

He clearly warned her about this matter.

R: umm well it will depend on me if I want to have it or not.

She shrugged and took her seat. Students were bickering back a snicker at their shocked professor face.

The class went smoothly if we ignore bantering of ridhima and her stupid questions, it went quite good. Whole class was happy with her arrival, she was entertainer of the class.

She always joked around and Vansh was very irritated with her on the first day itself.

V: miss ridhima, in my cabin right now.

R: Ayee Ayee captain!

She mocked salute and moved to his cabin.

V: well I would really appreciate if you stop behaving like a fool around and stop joking.

He said seriously and she kept her hand on her heart to indicate that she's hurt.

R: now when people don't joke around, their face becomes like yours. Sadu types, never smiling.

He looked at her shocked, she literally blurted out everything and it was truth. He doesn't even remembers last time he smiled, he was forever like this. Adku and Sadu types.

R: what don't look at me like this! I said the truth and when you don't smile, you leave reason for living life.

She said cutely, her these words were so simple yet so deep. It affected him deeply, really deeply.

R: I can feel that you are very Akdu to take my advice but maybe try it someday. Go and make a small baby laugh, there will be a genuine smile on your face.

With that she exited his office leaving him deep in thoughts. He knew whatever she said was all true, he never smiled. Maybe to keep his strict professor face on or maybe he never got a reason to smile.

He didn't even noticed when a small smile appeared on his face. He was even shocked with himself, he couldn't understand that this girl who met him few minutes back just managed to bring back his long lost smile.

When he went back home, he entered with a smile on his face. It was a shocker to his family but they were happy with this change.

He spent time with them and it made them feel good. Taking her advice, he went to an orphanage that day.

He distributed the gifts among the children and played with them. She was right! She was very right when she told that he will have a genuine smile on his face after making a child smile.

He was changing! He could feel it himself. But he liked this change. He was laughing along with children when they suddenly ran towards the entrance which confused him.

R: hello bacha log!!!!!

A familiar booming voice came there and children hooted. It was ridhima. They crowded her and she laughed, vansh was so mesmerized by her.

She distributed the chocolates she brought with herself and started playing with them.

V: ridhima

He called out her name and she was surprised to see him here.

R: Woah you actually took my advice and came here

He nodded with a smile forming on his lips.

R: stay like this. I mean smile often, it suits you.

His smile got wider and seeing him smile it made her happy too.

Days passed and the one could feel their closeness growing. From being irritated when she joked to smiling and laughing a little. Not even Vansh's students had ever witnessed him like this, he was literally changing and it was so visible to everyone.

He could feel that after ridhima entered his life, it started to change. For good Of cource. It was like she taught him living, she taught how does it feels to stay happy and smile.

He really wasn't aware of his unknown feelings until he discovered what it really was. He understood that he fell in love with her, those feelings were surreal.

It gave him butterflies in his stomach, this feeling was so different yet beautiful. He made a vow to always cherish her and made a plan to propose her.

He thought that the best place to propose her has to be orphanage. She visited it everyday and due to her even he started visiting it regularly.

This was the place where they started growing more closer to each other. He decorated the whole orphanage with the help of authorities and children.

They were very happy to be a part of it, Vansh and ridhima had become a family to them and they were super happy with him proposing her.

He was eagerly waiting for her to arrive. It had been longer than usual time she arrives. She was late today. Very late.

Yet he was waiting for her! He wanted her in his world to become his better half and his whole world. He never knew what destiny stored in for them, he just waited.

But she never arrived. She didn't. And it broke his heart but still with a smile on his face he made his way to her home. It was her that gave him a reason to smile.

He made his way inside her house and called out her name.

V: ridhima!

He shouted but got no response he did that again but this time a housekeeper came.

Hk: sir everyone has gone to hospital. Ridhima mam is not well.

A fear crept upon his soul, he could feel that something isn't right. Maybe you call it heart to heart connection but he could feel some pain there as if she's in pain.

He ran out of her house and drove to the hospital where she was. He saw his father near the reception area, his eyes seemed numb.

V: uncle! Uncle where is ridhima??

He looked at him teary eyed and burst into tears. Vansh was scared. He noticed her mother, meera Who was crying badly.

V: aunty please tell me where is ridhima??

He shook her and she looked at him red eyed.

Me: she left me! She left us here! She lef..

She couldn't complete but burst into tears and choked on her words. Vansh sat there with a thump. This all seemed like a dream, a bad dream! A scary nightmare! But to his bad luck it was all real.

He didn't even noticed when she became key to his locker heart which was residing deep inside a Pandora box. He didn't even noticed when she became his world, he didn't even noticed when she became his reason to smile. He didn't even noticed when he started loving her.

But today he did! He noticed every damn thing when she was away from him. She left him! All alone! She again took his reason to smile with her! How will he smile again? How will he see the light again when his sun left him!

Her last rites were being performed by her parents, during this whole time he was just numb. He couldn't even express his feelings, he wanted to cry, he wanted to shout but all he could do was stay quiet and bear this pain.

He never smiled during the whole time, he already lost his reason to smile. The only thing that was running in his mind were her jokes, her smile, her adorable pout, her laughter.

he was just about to leave when meera stopped her.

Mee: vansh beta, actually ridhima told me to give this to you before she left us.

She gave him a letter and he caressed it softly as if wanting to feel her. He opened it slowly

Hello Vansh, oops hi sir

So sirrr, I actually wanted to say you something. When I first saw you in the class room, looking all serious I swear I literally wanted to just laugh. You were looking so funny.

I had Hodgkin lymphoma, well I wrote had because you must be reading it when I would have left this world.

This was incurable, doctor told that I just had few months left. So Marna to tha hi, to socha Marne se pehle kisi ki Muskan ki wajah ban jaun. You were all Sadu types who never smiled and the moment I saw you in the classroom I knew it had to be you.

I Wanted to become a reason for someones smile and I believe I have been successful in that. Everything was going good, my death day was coming near but one thing happened which was never part of my plan.

My heart started beating for someone else, I didn't even realised when I started loving you. Yes vansh, I fell in love with you. Before dying, you made me feel what love is. I couldn't confess it to you but believe me I really love you.

I wanted to confess it to you today at the orphanage but here I am lying on my death bed and this nurse writing this letter for me. So I am going but

I just want you to always keep that beautiful smile on your face because I loved that. Can you please keep that promise of yours?

He finally left all his emotions out, the pain he was carrying, he cried bitterly. He fell on his knees, clutching that letter close to his heart.

V: I also love you ridhima, I love you so much.

He sobbed and meera hugged him, few tears fell from her eyes too. What pained him more that he couldn't tell her that he too loved her, more than she'll ever know. But her soul will be at peace now, with knowing that her true soulmate loves her back.

Maybe they were soul mates but destiny didn't wrote them together.

V: she was a girl who was joking around anything and everything. I never met a girl like her, neither I ever want to. She thought me how to live life, she thought me why to smile.

She became reason of my smile. She's still my reason to live life. I am still keeping that promise she wanted me to, keep smiling. She's still the reason I smile, I smile because of her memories, her silly jokes, her laughter still echoes in my ears.

she is not present here physically but she is immersed in me. She is inside me, inside my heart.

Tears were flowing down both of their cheeks. Vansh smiled sadly remembering her, how she entered his life like a storm and left a forever impact on him and his heart.

Adi: wow! Never thought I would listen such a pure and heart wrenching love story. So she's the one who changed you! She taught you smiling.

V: I just don't love her but I am in love with her. My love for her will never fade away. Ever.

Smiling sadly, he turned around and looked at the stars just like she always used to. There was one star which was shining brightly and to him it was her.

"PAPA" A voice came from behind and Vansh smiled.

Adi: baby! How are you ridhu?

Ridhu: I am fine papa. Dada!

She ran to his arms and he laughed. She seemed so much like her, same laughter which could make anyone smile. He saw ridhima in her so this was the reason he named her ridhu.

V: how's my princess?

Ri: I am fine dada.

She looked at him and then at the star he was gazing. The crescent which was shining brightly in the sky was nowhere to be found, maybe because that star took it's place in someone's heart.

He still smiles because of her, he has still kept her promise. Only for her. After all she is still his reason to smile.

He never married anyone else. He still waits for her every night, with a ting of disappointment.

Call me an emotional fool then I am. I actually cried while writing it, call it whatever you want but I seriously cried very badly after this.

And an early update as a return gift from me for everyone who wished me happy birthday even though it wasn't really. I just turned officially 14 but my real birthday is in August.

It was this prani rianshuniverse who wanted me to write this os as a return gift.
