~ Chapter 13 ~
Kylo's Pov:
As hard as I had tried to pay attention at what was being said in the meeting I was in, I just couldn't. My mind was stuck on one thing and one thing only. Rey.
Everyday that went by was a day closer to her leaving. I didn't want her to leave. Oh how much I wanted her to stay with me, but I didn't want to keep her here against her will. I promised her that she could leave come spring and I was determined to keep that promise no matter how I felt.
I could do nothing more than hope that she felt the same way about me as I did her, and that she wouldn't want to leave. What would she even go back to? She had told me herself that she had no family waiting for her back on her home planet. I didn't understand why she wanted to go back so badly. Whatever the reason was, It was not my place to intervene.
As soon as the meeting was over, I rushed home as fast as I could. I wanted to spend every moment that I could with Rey before she left. I ran around the house looking for her everywhere, but I couldn't find her anywhere.
"Rey?! Rey where are you?!" I yelled.
I ran frantically around the house trying to find her as quickly as possible just itching to see her.
"Ben? Ben I'm in here!" I heard her yell.
"Where here?"
"In my room!" She replied.
I ran to her room and let out a sigh of relief when I saw her sitting calmly reading.
"What's wrong? Is everything okay?" She asked frantically standing up.
"Oh, yes, everything is just fine. I was just wondering where you were. Just making sure that you're alright and that nothing bad happened while I was gone."
Rey stood up and walked over grabbing onto my hand, weaving her fingers through mine.
"I'm just fine. No need to worry."
She stepped up onto her tippy toes planting a soft kiss on my check.
"Why don't you go rest for a while. I have some things to do anyway right now." Rey said gently squeezing my hand.
"I just got home though. I haven't seen you hardly at all today."
"I'll be here all day. You have been in a meeting all day. Go rest. I'll be fine." She said as she led me out her door.
"Alright. If you need anything though let me know."
"Of course. Now go, rest."
I walked out of the room as she closed the door behind me.
That seemed odd of her to kick me out so suddenly like that. She must just want some alone time. I can respect that. I need alone time too once in a while.
I walked over to my room and slowly opened the door. I slumped onto the bed exhausted from the day. Maybe Rey was right. I should rest for a bit. I stared up at the ceiling for a few minutes before slowly drifting off to sleep.
2 hours later
I started to wake up and turned over to face my clock. I suddenly realized I had slept in for way longer than I should have and sat up on the bed. I slipped on my boots getting out of bed, but then got up and walked out to the hallway. I wandered down to the kitchen to get a glass of water before heading back up stairs to check on Rey. I walked up the stairs and over to Rey's room. As I went to open the door, the sound of glass shattering came from her room. I slammed through the door to see Rey gripping the side table next to her with all her might. The lamp had fallen over and shattered, and she was breathing extremely heavily. I ran over to help her stand up.
"What's wrong? Are you okay? What happened?" I panicked.
She looked up at me and I saw the panic in her eyes.
"The baby's coming."
My eyes widened and I froze, not knowing what to do.
"Ben, I need you to get the nurse. Now!" She exclaimed.
"Yes, yes the nurse. I'll go get her right away."
I helped Rey onto the bed, then quickly rushed down to get the nurse. I burst through the doctor's office yelling for medical assistance.
"Help! HELP! I NEED MEDICAL HELP!"
"What's wrong sir?" A medical droid asked.
"Rey's having her baby now. She needs help. Please send medical assistance upstairs to her room straight away!" I yelled.
The slightly startled and now slightly panicked droid went into the back room. It came rushing out shortly after with more medical droids and equipment. I rushed back up the stairs behind the droids. Before I could enter back into her bedroom after the droids, one of them stopped me.
"You should probably wait out here sir. Giving birth is a very private event that is only viewed by the child's parents and the doctors assisting." The droid said.
I wanted so badly to argue with the insubordinate droid, but I knew that the more time I wasted yelling at this thing, the less medical attention Rey would be getting. I nodded in response and proceeded to wait outside.
11 hours later
I had stood outside of Rey's room all night waiting. Hearing her screaming was the equivalent of being stabbed in the heart. I just wanted to be in there and help her get through this. I hadn't eaten a thing or left the hallway to do anything else. I needed to be there for her as soon as she had had the baby. She had been in that room for almost 12 hours and I had started to get very anxious. What if something bad had happened to her? What if there was something wrong with the baby? My train of thought stopped suddenly as soon as I heard the cry of a baby. I had enough of being outside and instantly burst through the door, nearly breaking it off the hinge. I looked over to see Rey, who was sitting up in bed holding the most precious child that I had ever seen.
"Are you okay? Is the baby okay?" I said frantically.
"We're both just fine Ben. No need to worry. Ben, I'd like you to meet Lucas Amir." Rey said as she held up the baby for me to see.
I walked over and kneeled down next to the bed. "He is just as beautiful as his mother." I replied planting a kiss on Rey's forehead.
1 week later:
Rey had fully recovered from the delivery and the baby was perfectly healthy. As the days began getting longer and the weather warmer, I knew my time with Rey was running out. I felt knives jabbing through my heart every time I thought about not having her here with me, but I knew it was what she wanted most. It made me worried though. Worried about who would help her, who would comfort her, who would be there when she needed it. She had no family and it made no sense for her to go back to nothing. It was what she wanted though and I was willing to let her go to see her happy.
I needed to spend as much time with her as I could before she decided it was the right time to go back. I rushed down the hall to her room and knocked on the door, hoping it was a good time to see her.
