Mountains, Monsters, and Meltdowns
I feel the need to remind everyone that I have no idea how the Fahrenheit system works and am basing my number off of the actual weather where I want them to be and that I being from Canada work in Celcius. If it's wrong just think, pretty damn cold in thin robes and you're there.
Piper POV:
The feeling of shadow travel was shocking as Nico dragged us away from the danger that was our classroom. Hazel and I landed in a pile with Nico and Annabeth beside us. I swore right alongside my friend. If I ever caught that scary-ass witch I was going to skin her and give her as a gift to the gods. Hazel was simply just violently cursing as we de-tangled ourselves. After a moment of catching our breath, Hazel and I jumped up and tried to drag Annabeth and Nico back into focus. Nicos body was convulsing and he still seemed to be gasping for breath. I had no idea what to do about that, Hazel was crying at her brother who was holding her shirt sleeve as if he was trying to hold himself where he was, which might very well have been true. Whatever he was seeing was affecting him physically too. Annabeth in comparison was silent and staring ahead at seemingly nothing, tears streamed down her face. The only indicator that she was in distress was the terror and hopelessness behind her eyes. I sent a silent prayer and thanked the gods that Hazel and I had accompanied them wherever we were, and that they would be okay. My thoughts drifted back to the classroom where we had left the rest of our friends to deal with the aftermath of that psychotic professor and the mental turmoil majority of them were going through. A sob raised up into my throat but I swallowed it just as quick, shoving those thoughts aside and tried to get my friend's attention.
"Nico, Nico! Breathe, come on. Piper! Piper! What- what did Will and Annabeth make you do to catch your breath." Hazel was frantic and my mind raced, coming up with the answer faster than I would have thought I could. I threw myself at Nico, part of my brain reminded me he hated being touched, I ignored that part deeming it unhelpful to the situation. Hazel taking my hint went to Annabeth and tried to talk her back to us. Under me, Nico didn't even flinch at my contact, which was scary. He was shaking against me, making my teeth rattle. I pulled him closer so he was practically one with me as I spoke into his ear trying to make my voice steady and calm.
"Nico, breathe with me. Come on, you're safe, whatever you're seeing, however awful it is it's not real. You are safe, breathe with me, in and out. I know it's scary but I believe in you. You are so strong I know you can do this. Plus if you pass out right now Hazel might actually have a heart attack and then it's just me with the three of you. Please Nico." he did not respond whatsoever to my words, his gasps were making less and less sound which my brain informed me was a horrible sign. I turned my head to look at Hazel who was not having any better luck with our blonde friend than I was her brother.
"Hazel, I think he's going to pass out soon." She let out a strangled noise before she grimaced. Glancing at her brother and Annabeth before giving me an apologetic look. Something I knew meant that whatever was going to come out of her mouth next was going to be an awful yet helpful plan. I braced myself, still holding Nico tight to me evening my breathing.
"Hazel whatever it is you think will help. Do it." She looked at me apologetically, the next words that came out of her mouth damn near sent me into a tailspin.
"Try charm speaking them, I know you are just getting over the incident with Hermione but this is totally different. They are hurting and we can't get them help because we don't know we are. Please Piper, I'm so sorry." My heart might have shuttered to a stop as I momentarily forgot to breathe, Nicos sudden stop as well sent a shock to my brain.
'Look at him, look at her. They need help.' my brain supplied,
'I know,' I snapped back, trying to control my conflicted feelings, it didn't care
'He needs you to show him what to do and you stopped, that's not very good.' my brain reminded me, which seemed to jumpstart my whole nervous system once more. I took a deep breath, Nico despite still seeming to choke on the air as it entered and exited his mouth tried to follow. I smiled and buried the part of my brain that was telling me what I could do was monstrous and illegal. I closed my eyes and spoke.
"Nico breathe with me, you are safe, you are in no danger. I am here for you, Hazel is here for you. I want you to find five things you can see, four things you can touch, three things you can hear, two things you can smell, and one thing you can taste. Don't say them outloud but find them. And breathe in and out with me. You are safe here." Nico suddenly let out a ear splitting sob scream that made me jump higher than Zeus' domain, Hazel let out a surprised shriek snatching Annabeth's hand as dozens of gems came flying out of the ground around us.
The ringing in my ear closest to his mouth was damn near blinding, a cold breeze ripped through me as if I wasn't even there. My teeth began to chatter lightly but I tried to ignore it as I took even breaths with the younger boy. Nico let out another lower sob as he hugged me back, he buried his face into my shoulder as he cried. His feelings overwhelmed me and I had to resist the urge to collapse at the onslaught of grief, terror, and hate hitting me in the chest like a demolition ball I saw in California with my dad. Never had I wanted to hear such a sound come out of someones mouth, let alone Nico Di Angelo. He and I had a rocky relationship as it was, we'd never sat down and had conversations about our feelings, and the most contact I'd ever gotten out of the sobbing boy in my arms before now was the occasional high five and one time when he gave me a playful shove toward Jason when we had been fighting. Suddenly being confronted by the boys innermost demons as he clutched to my shirt as inconsolable sobs rocked his body was more than shocking, I almost thought I heard the far off sound of the underworld freezing over..
Through the ringing in my ears I heard another sob farther away echo across the mountain range we had found ourselves on. I chanced a glance over to see Annabeth holding Hazel's arms with her face down, Hazel looked overwhelmed. I couldn't blame her, witnessing Nico break down in hysterics was shocking enough, having Annabeth in the same position not 3 feet away was bone chilling. The blonde girl was hiccuping as Hazel tried to calm her unsuccessfully. Annabeth despite her state drew her chin up from her chest with a look of despair covering her features. It caused my breath to catch momentarily resulting in a shudder from the son of Hades in my arms. I focused my attention on him and how his shuddering sobs were getting quieter, still holding my shoulders under my arms he leaned back slightly so I could see his face. Looking into his eyes at such a close distance made my ski run cold. His usually caged emotions were spread out for the whole world to see. I could see the pain so clearly in his face I swore I could feel it transfer into my own emotions. He took one last deep breath, still gripping at my shirt.
"Thank you." Still a little shaken by the last few minutes with the younger boy I could only bring myself to nod and smile back. His eyes glanced over my shoulder taking in the scene that was Annabeth crying and his sister trying to get her to breathe with her, I followed his gaze.
"Annabeth, you need to breathe. You said five things you can see, four things you can touch, three things you can hear, two things you can smell, and one thing you can taste. You've got this, you're safe." Hazel was frantically trying to get her to listen, but everytime she got too close to the daughter of Athena she would let out a terrified shriek and shove poor Hazel away from her, before resuming her hysterics. Nico re-adjusted so he was gripping my bicep instead of the back of my shoulder blades,
"She's going back through everything related to that prophecy, Arachne, the Parthaneos, being alone, being found, falling, and-" he sucked in another breath squeezing my muscle so hard I had to resist the whimper that tried to pry itself from my lips, I was positive I was going to have a horrible bruise in a few hours. I nodded trying to keep him calm, placing my free hand on his shoulder in a way I hoped was comforting.
"It's okay, I understand." his eyes met mine showing his thanks, "come on, let's lend a hand." he shuddered as we tried to stand because Annabeth was much farther from us now, due to her scrambling. His legs gave out as he went pale again. I instinctively grabbed his waist keeping him up. He wasn't heavy, not that I'd expected him to be, but the lightness was concerning. I resigned myself to that fact that Nico was going to have one more person concerned about how much he ate when we got back, I was going to be like a freaking mama bear. Compared to dragging Percy and Jason onto a pegasus in Kansas holding up the much smaller boy was easy as pie. Almost as if he could read my mind he let out a chuckle, that seemed pained, when I didn't even falter when he started to go over.
"We can worry about how light I am later, It's also due to the fact that I think I transported us hundreds of miles after such an assault on my mind, I feel a little smoke ish." the fact that he was laughing at the terrifying prospect of him turning into a wisp in my arms made me shiver as I supported him to where Hazel was trying to comfort Annabeth from afar. Looking our way momentarily, she threw herself at us.
"Oh my gods Nico! Are you okay?" I transferred his weight to Hazel, who he latched onto as he reassured her that he was indeed better now, but nowhere near okay. I approached Annabeth slowly, seeing the unhinged and terror in her eyes was breathtaking as was the fact that she was right on the edge of a cliff. I knelt a ways away from her hoping to keep her from going over, without Jason or Thalia around, if she went over she would surely die from the impact. The thought was sobering as the two children of the underworld went silent behind me, a small bubble of shame climbed up from my stomach as I prepared to use my charmspeak once more. Taking a deep shaking breath I threw every other thought out of my mind to focus on the trembling girl in front of me.
"Hey Annabeth, You're safe, you aren't there. You are with Nico, Hazel and Piper, we trust you and love you. You are safe with us with a beautiful view in the sun. No darkness to be found, I need you to get away from the edge of the cliff and come to my voice. Come and follow my voice, come and tell me how to help you." Without any indication that she heard me her body responded to my command and she crawled towards me still sobbing like she had been seconds before, the same far away look in her eyes as she got closer I heard her mumbling through her sobs, she looked pained as she spoke and my spin hardened at the idea that she was only talking because I told her too. I shoved that thought aside, I was helping her, I had asked her how I could help,
"Percy- Percy went down, he was dying. Bob- I thought he was going to leave. Percy was dying, I couldn't see him. Calypso, she- she cursed me. We were dying. We left them behind. They- they died. The doors, we made it- He materialized out of nowhere, Percy- Percy was going to make me go alone, he swore to me. We were staying together, he was going to stay behind and hold the button. Damasan saved him, and we let his father kill him, Tartarus knew we were there, he materialized to fight him, Percy was going to fight him alone so I could live." She let out another sob as she stopped in front of me, eyes wide. Chills were running through my body, neither Percy or Annabeth talked about the details of what it was like down there, just the jist of it and how Percy had gained a new power that scared her. The realization that Percy had been willing to send her through the doors of death alone to fight a Primordial that he knew he couldn't beat was soul crushing. I heard Nico and Hazel gasp behind me and tried to tune them out. As she continued to speak, staring into my eyes, I could see the hope that she held that I would understand. I had no idea how her telling me this would help her in any way.
"Percy barely slept; he was so worried, he wanted to give up in the river. The voices were so compelling, if we stopped struggling we would be okay, no more pain, no more danger, just peace. The air burned, we ran through the house of Night, we jumped blindly over the chasm of Chaos, had we missed- we would have been torn apart for all eternity. They chased us- the Giants were already out." She paused taking a deep breath and she stared off over my shoulder like she was looking at something or someone,
"Arachne had masterpieces, she had one of Percy and I, in our kiss under the water after the Battle of Manhattan. Where is Percy, he was hurt. He took it all on. Percy." she was gasping and I hesitantly reached for her hoping to keep her in the sort of terrified calm she had been reduced to. She flinched but didn't scream which was an improvement, I kept my hand out to her as I spoke again.
"Annabeth, I want to help you, but you have to let me. Let me help you. Feel it," her face went slack and she reached out eyes still glazed grabbing my hand. Her hand was colder than ice, making me gasp, she was trembling like a leaf in a hurricane. I could almost feel the tension fall from her at the familiar words. After facing my brothers in the temple of Deimos and Phobos whenever she was facing emotions she wasn't sure how to deal with she would come find me and we would talk it out, feeling those emotions. Between Percy and I the girl had been doing better about a lot of her issues with trust and abandonment. Her eyes cleared and she gasped, finally looking around her. She looked back at me with wide eyes before dragging me over to her without warning. Surprised a little shout left my mouth as she hugged me.
"Piper, Oh my gods-" was all that left her mouth as she squeezed the life out of me. Honestly a breath stealing hug was better than her screaming like Nico, the ringing in my ears had finally diminished to a horrible memory. She held me and then gasped, without letting go of me she addressed the siblings behind us,
"Hazel, oh- Hazel, I'm sorry, your voice was coming from a cyclops we ran into, and then it was one of the arai was taunting me. Come here, I'm sorry." I heard a small sob as Hazel crashed into my side, now Annabeth was hugging us both with our heads on one shoulder each. Looking behind me I could see that Nico was standing close enough that he was still holding Hazel's shirt uncomfortably. I pulled away from Annabeth as the two girls glanced at me as I reached out for him. Nico looked at my hand for a moment before his shoulders sagged in relief.
"Come here," He didn't hesitate in dropping into the middle of our hug. He was shivering, weather from the cold that I was now realizing existed on the mountain or an overwhelming amount of emotions. The four of us sat in that hug for longer than I thought possible. Annabeth was whispering in Nicos ear, from what I could gather she was apologizing for dragging him into that with her.
After an eternity of sitting on the partially frozen ground we separated, eyes red and puffy. Annabeth gasped as soon as we had disentangled ourselves.
"Oh my gods! Percy! He went through five of the prophecies, not a single one of those quests are good memories. Both of the great prophecies, i'm going to be sick." and she did, she looked green and I couldn't help the horror that rose up into my throat as well. Jason had gone through two and got thrown across the room, Percy at least had the Styx to protect him, they both made horrible cracking noises upon contact with the wall. There had been a flash of light and the whole room shook at their contact. Hazel looked just as horrified by the prospect, I could remember the fact that Frank had turned into an Iguana which had apparently confused the crazy witch enough to leave him alone. Nico was equally as terrified.
"Oh gods, Will is going to murder me." Hazel let out a dry laugh.
"Oh absolutely, if I don't commit the act before we get back. What were you thinking? Using that much underworld magic in such a distressed state was dangerous! There were four of us attached to you, how you aren't a puddle of goo is beyond me. Where did you take us anyway?" She scolded him with a smack on the shoulder. Which he rubbed looking around as if for the first time seeing our surroundings. He frowned,
"I'm not really sure actually, I just remembered thinking that I wanted to get away and be safe from her. I'm glad we weren't dropped somewhere with people though, that would have been hard to explain." We all took a look at our surroundings. There were mountains all around us, with a large large partially frozen body of water to our right. Had the circumstances not been what they were it would be a beautiful sightseeing spot. The sun was shining but the mountains were not too large, based on how we could still breathe normally it wasn't high enough to inhibit our breathing. I looked at Hazel who was frowning at the ground.
"We're still in Scotland, the highlands, but that's all I can figure out. That's the best I can do" I nodded, Hazel's understanding of the underground was helpful, and it had been developing where she could almost pinpoint where she was within a state.
"I think we're still near the castle, I haven't the best idea which way or how far but I can tell that much." We all nodded looking once more at our surroundings. I could see a large lake to our left Annabeth was squinting in the same direction.
"Is that a town or am I still hallucinating." We all spun to look where she was, beside the lake, I squinted and I could make out what did indeed look like a small town. I sighed in relief before the idea that we would have to walk that far made me groan.
"That is definitely a town, the only problem is that we have no idea how far we'll make it with no supplies, and no offence but you and Nico are looking a little worse for wear." Hazels nodded at my words, I mean they both looked ready to collapse at the next breeze. The pair of them sniffed at me indingnatley, but did not contradict my statement.
"Well we can't stay here, it feels like Alaska up here. It can't be even close to 50 degrees (10C) and that's not incorporating the wind or those awful rain clouds behind us." Annabeth reminded us. Nico growled beside me,
"We don't have our weapons." That statement sent a chill through me even worse than the wind was. Which was a statement unto its own. Not to sound British but it was bloody cold. Annabeth, if possible, went more white and began to scan our surroundings. Having been in an impenetrable fortress for the last few months where we weren't being attacked had been nice, but if and when we made it back, I was going to wring the headmasters neck and demand my dagger to be carried with me. Hazel, the sweet angel she was, swore colorfully at the idea, so much so Annabeth's jaw dropped. Had she been back in the 1930s she would have had her knuckles rapped and mouth scrubbed out. Nico snapped at her,
"Language little sister. I didn't need to hear that come out of your mouth ever." She did not apologize, if anything she called him an extra nasty name in french that had me wanting to scrub out my mouth, which Nico thankfully ignored. Being the only one present who could understand what she was saying to a better degree made me want to shove cotton in my ears in the hopes of drowning her out.
"Thank you, Hazel for the lesson in vocabulary I never wanted to know or hear. Let's just think about our options and take stock of what we have on us." Hazel did not look bashful in the slightest as she emptied her pockets. Nico spoke up,
"I could try and shadow tra-" all three of us shouted at him
"NO." he seemed taken aback before muttering under his breath and pulling out his own arsenal of useless trinkets. After we had laid out all of our things Annabeth announced what we had.
"So it looks like we have: four wands, a broken quill, ten american dollars, my yankees cap and twelve galleons, with enough gems, gold and treasures that we could buy a castle ourselves." She eyed Hazel thoughtfully for a moment, "why do you have so many galleons? Sorry let me rephrase, do I want to know why you have so many galleons?" Hazel simply smiled and shrugged.
"I catch Leo, Connor, Travis, and the Weasley twins doing questionable things sometimes and demand payment for my silence." We stared at her, had I not known that she had a heart of gold, with a take no shit attitude, I could have been convinced she was not indeed our Hazel. I shook my head clearing away the idea that my friend had a bit of a mischievous side that I had not previously been aware of, and mentally stored the idea of bringing her with me to the next prank we pulled for later reference.
"Right, Anyways, We have to figure out if moving is the best option or finding shelter for you two to get some sleep is, that class started at nine so it can't be much later than that. We have a good twelve hours until nightfall," Annabeth cut it,
"That town doesn't look too far, a couple hours tops, but the bigger issue is like Nico said, monsters. We don't actually know if Magic will affect them, we haven't really had the chance to experiment. We saw what happened with the Drakon and Percy, it seemed to piss him off more than hurt him. But it was wary of the wizards. So our wands aren't completely useless if we use that kind of logic. I don't want Nico or Hazel doing anything underworldy because-'' Hazel cut in furious,
"I haven't done anything except make a gems appear when Nico screamed and you almost went over the edge over there and using my powers to figure out we aren't too far from school." Annabeth raised her eyebrows and glanced at Nico who looked uncomfortable having the fact that he had unleashed a sorrow filled cry earlier.
"Maybe so, but I think that Nico drew some of the power he needed to Shadow travel us four without needing any sort of pick me up from you. Which means we are fresh out of travel ideas other than walking. Which I am more than able to do no matter how horrible you say I look, I've been through worse." We were silent for a minute just staring at each other, Hazel still had an air of indignance around her while Nico just looked uncomfortable. Something shimmered beside Hazels foot, catching my eye. I gasped and dropped to my knees, Hazel shrieked and snatched my hand away from the coin.
"Piper, Don't be stupid! My gems are still cursed!" I recoiled as she bent down to see what I had darn near gotten myself killed over, she gasped and I knew I was right.
"It's a dracma isn't it?" I asked her when Annabeth and Nico came rushing over, the three of us stared at it, Hazel picked it up, turning it over in her hands. She didn't need to answer because we could very well tell I was right. Annabeths eyes were gleaming,
"Where is Will, or Percy when you need them. A rainbow would be great right now, I'd even take Butch from camp too use that thing. Keep hold of it." Hazel pocketed the coin.
Suddenly we heard a roar from a distance, that shook the low mountain range. Annabeth frowned but Nico, Hazel and I backed up, our decision had just been made for us.
"That sounds like our kind of luck, nasty mountain gods." I shuddered remembering the late nights that those ourae had caused us on the Argo II. Hazel subconsciously rubbed the top of her head and Nico his shoulder, I knew they were thinking the same, Leo had been all too willing to tell us how the two of them were almost murdered alongside his mast from a particularly nasty set. Annabeth frowned not having been present for the unfortunate encounter.
"That didn't sound good? What was it?" she looked to us for answers, which was a surprise because the daughter of Athena usually jumped at the opportunity to prove she knew what kind of monsters they were facing.
"Numina montanum" Hazel supplied at the same time Nico said "Ourae". Annabeth glanced back at where the sound had come from with a soft oh.
"I think that's our sign that we try to make it to that town to make a call. Any arguments?" I asked, there were none. We collected our limited belongings, and looked down the slope, it was steep but there was a path going down, it even had flags along the way, it was also well worn. Whatever mountain/hill we were on was a hiking attraction. Annabeth looked at us once more,
"Watch where you step, and keep your eyes open for monsters." and with that she started down the goat path.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We nearly died no less than twelve times each on our way down the hill. By the time we had reached the bottom we had not yet encountered any sort of monster, ourae or not. It turned out our greatest threat was our own clumsiness. We had taken turns cursing as we descended in otherwise dead silence. Nico was hunched over breathing at the ground, Annabeth's hands were on her head, and Hazel was laying on her back. The sun was high in the sky now and Nico was glancing around nervously. After catching my own breath I asked him what was wrong with him.
"I can feel a lot of dead here, I think it's a grave site or something, and there are some spirits watching us from over there, but they don't seem to be wanting to bother us, just that we get on our way." I glanced where he was pointing a clump of trees at the base to our right. I nodded, if Nico and Hazel weren't concerned about the presence of spirits what reasoning did I have for worrying. Annabeth looked at the sun for a moment, which about halfway down the slope had come out from behind it's cloud.
"If I had to guess, it's probably closer to 11:30 now." of course she knew how to read the time based on the sun, I hadn't made it to that advanced class at camp yet. I still had trouble looking straight at the sun without wanting to claw out my eyes at the brightness. My grandfather was probably watching me calling me a wuss, but hey I didn't see him fighting monsters every other day, I was busy. Looking at Nico I couldn't help the snort that escaped my mouth, which gained me the attention of everyone around me. Annabeth looked annoyed, I realised she probably thought I was making fun of her for telling the time. I waved her off,
"Oh sorry, that wasn't at you Annabeth. Nico's got a sunburn, I never thought I'd see the day." The two other girls spun on the poor boy who looked about ready to leave us to our own devices, or better yet call on those spirits in the forest to help beat us to a pulp. Seeing the red splashed across his cheeks and arms compared to the usual white as a ghost demeanor he usually held was hilarious. And thus we burst into laughter, Nico folded his arms across his chest and waited for us to finish with the slightest of smiles trying to cross his face.
"Are you done? I can't help the fact that the sun hates me, besides if we take any longer we will all be sporting the same look. Let's continue on, yes?" I snorted but stood anyway. The three of us were still snickering, seeing Annabeth laugh and Nico try not to show his smile was reassuring that despite the horrid morning of memories they would be fine. However I still caught them staring off into the distance every so often, Hazel and I would nudge them a little if they stopped to have any staring contests with unsuspecting flowers or other inanimate objects. They would dryly smile and continue on. I was worried about them, I hadn't been subject to any old prophecy memories but the way Nico and Annabeth had seemed thousands of miles and years away was definitely fear inducing.
Hazel stopped us dead in our tracks after getting Annabeth away from the poor tree she'd been glaring at murderously. She was staring into the thicket besides us with a finger to her lips. The hairs on the back of my neck stood up, there was definitely something in there that meant trouble. We stood silently watching all sides of us, wands ready. A twig snapped to my right and I spun at the sound just in time to see claws reaching for me. Reflexively I spun out of the way, wondering why I was being attacked by a cheerleader, I felt her claws graze my arm. I gasped as I harmlessly hit at the oncoming empousa with my wand like I would if it was my dagger. I resisted the urge to hit myself in the forehead at my idiocy.
'Stupid, don't swing your wand. Cast it.' I readied myself only to see three other empousa come hobbling out of the thicket, donkey leg and all. Our luck had run out, it had been way too quiet for too long. Of course it was now, when all we had was the hope that wands worked just as well against a monster, that is if used properly. There was a standoff as the middle one who had scratched me hissed. Annabeth's face contorted as she snarled back,
"Kelli, still ugly I see." the middle one, Kelli did a horrifying smile in return.
"Daughter of Athena, we've been trying to find you for months. We could smell you in the area along with a tasty buffet of other half bloods including Perseus Jackson, but you seemed to just not exist where we were looking." Annabeth looked thrilled at the idea that she had been unable to find her boyfriend.
"Where's the rest of your flock? You had more followers last time I saw you." Kelli scoffed before literally hissing her response,
"Those idiots couldn't see the big picture, they left to go find demigod scum back in America, but considering our history," she drawled out the word our, "I couldn't pass up the opportunity to gut you like a fish, I've always wanted to see what you two taste like." Her two friends chattered at her, in whatever language monsters used when it wasn't taunting demigods. Kelli frowned,
"Where are your weapons, that dastardly black sword your handsome friend carries is not anywhere near us." Nico balked at the attention as I yet again swallowed the laughter that bubbled up my throat. I knew empousa had a special hold over men in particular, I briefly wondered if they would affect Nico, who while a male, was not interested in women. Kelli looked at the rest of our group and made her awful mouth smile once more,
"I see no weapons, this will be easier than I thought." The four of them focused their attention on Nico and spoke directly to him, their sickly sweet voices floated across to the poor boy,
'Well at least you'll get your answer' my brain unhelpfully supplied, I told it to shut up.
"Oh honey, don't you want to come over here? We promise to eat you last, doesn't that sound better than dying for no reason? No chains for you if you behave." For a good second I honestly didn't think it had worked, until he dropped his wand arm and began to walk forward, Annabeth snatched at him, missing as one of the cheerleaders grabbed him and yanked him to the ground, hovering over him, he had the dazed look from earlier on his face. Kellis friend spoke to him right before they attacked,
"Good boy, stay here. You'll be safe until they're done with the girls." then they charged us.
