°chapter two

"So, first off..." Harvey parks himself on a chair opposite my own. "... let's have dinner." I scoff. Seriously? He was definitely making a move. The comfortable smile, his hands comfortable placed together - showing him being brave enough to ask. The eye contact. For god sake, he was positively screaming 'I'm flirting!'

"... Mr Specter..."

"Harvey." Licking my lips, I raise my eyebrows in shock.

"Mr Specter." I say firmly. "We are in a strictly professional relationship and as one lawyer to another..." Sitting on the edge of my desk, my hands meet in my lap. "I'd appreciate it if we kept it that way." Harvey remains quiet, as him he had to process the information I threw at him.

"Sure..." He stood up, buttoning his suit jacket. "All I wanted to propose is that if we could discuss the case over dinner Ms Steele." I bit my bottom lip and cleared my throat, swiftly moving on.

"Right... so, shall we schedule it for later. At dinner time? Say tonight at six?" Smiling a little, he nodded.

"Of course. See you later Ms Steele." I sunk into my seat. It was the first time that I had deduced on so low a level before. This only happened once in my life, with a certain person in my life - but, I should save that story for later.

And a few moments later, a folder of information was placed on my desk, by Donna of course, and so, I got to work.

I dove into my laptop and sheets of paper and I absorbed as much as I could in the, around, eight hours I had. Background checks, anything illegal, other places of property that had been rented. Since this was a civil case, in particular, my first contract dispute case, I had to dig deep and remain confident about what I learned.

And the clock ticked along, until it was that time, one I was dreading. It had months, in fact years since I had a dinner with a male work colleague - it just wasn't my thing. At least not anymore.

Once I reached to grab my coat, I was forced to look to my left. "Donna." She leaned on the opening of the door, her arms crossed and a smile playing on her face.

"Amy. Harvey is waiting for you outside. He wanted me to pass the message." I glance at the floor and face Donna again.

"Thank you." Slipping into my coat, I place my notes, paper and laptop into my bag. Stepping out of my office, Donna followed me, like a a dog wanting a treat.

"You know Amy, it seems you made a good impression on Harvey. Believe me, he doesn't just take any new employee out on dinners." I sigh.

"We're just-"

"-discussing a case. Sure." Pressing the lift button, I wait, conversing with Donna.

"So, you already know. Look, I appreciate you giving me the message." The life door opens in front of me and I step inside, still talking. "I'll see you tomorrow."

"Good luck." I catch a glimpse of a coy smile on her lips and I look around uncomfortably. But just as the doors close, a hand smacks onto the doors, and they pull open.

"I said hold it, but clearly..." A fair skinned man steps inside with me, and exhales, with force to let me know his anger. He was clearly not happy with me - well several people. "... so, who are you?" I frown, turning my head. "Might as well make conversation."

"Ms Steele." There was a moment of silence.

"Wait, Ms Amelia Steele?"

"Yes..." He laughs and believe me, I wasn't amused that the man who's name was on the wall. Yes sir, Louis goddamn Litt.

"I'm Louis Litt! You're our new lawyer, right? Gosh, I was supposed to here this morning, but I had to-" He paused and I looked at him in utter confusion. "-look, you've got to prove yourself to me." If was as if he was a totally different person. "Show me you can be a winner, and I'll treat you like one." The lift doors opened and cut the tension. He immediately trudged out and I walked slowly after him.

Someone had something to prove.

It was dark out, and I stared at the night sky, admiring the brightness of the stars. For once, it was a clear night, and the moon glistened.

"Ms Steele!" A familiar voice called out to me.

I diverted my gaze. "Ready to talk?" He stood tall and opened the door to his vehicle.

"Sure." I stepped in the car, not knowing what the night held.
