°chapter twenty three

Harvey and I stood in front of Rachel and Mike, speechless. We were frozen in embarrassment and wondered whether they heard anything. I could see the expressions of Mike and Rachel's faces, both just looking at each other, frowning. They did looked confused.

"Is... everything alright?" Mike asked and Harvey cleared his throat, not in a very subtle way.

"We.... W-w-we're fine. Just, discussing some personal details about the-the case." I looked away from them, rolling my eyes in disgust. Harvey really gets flustered, and it was cute, but not exactly good here. Right now, where Mike and Rachel, two of our colleagues, are right in front of us holding boxes.

"Sorry, we just expect you so soon..." I quickly spoke and crossed my arms.

"Well, we... told Harvey we'd be here at eight so..." I licked my lips and noticed Harvey scratch the back of his head. He looked as if he was completely lost for words. He had some kind of blank pushed inside of his head and for once he looked a little vulnerable. Was that me?

Did I make him vulnerable? And is that a good thing?

"Well, um..." I glance at Harvey again, wondering what I should. "Come in! Come in...." They walk inside and make their way towards the sofas, placing files on the coffee table on front of them.

I close the door behind me and turn around, only to be dangerously close to Harvey. I smelt his light woody scent, and his eyes had a softness about them that I had never noticed before.

"Are we..." I breathed in with a sharp, light breath, remembering the moment we just had. "Are we going to talk about what just happened?"

"I... I don't-"

"I think we should split it!" Me and Harvey snap apart, as Mike walks to us, his black tie loosened. Like he was ready for a long night. And we all were going to be. "You... both alright?" Mike smiled slightly, confused again.

Harvey finally decided to speak, the vulnerable state that his eyes told me he was in before, had been pulled away.

"Yes we're... fine. Let's get on with then." Harvey spared me a glance before making his way to the sofa, sitting on the sofa opposite Rachel.

Mike peered back at me in the doorway.

"You sure everything okay? It feels like we walked in on something..." I put on a smile and placed my hand onto Mike's shoulder, hoping that my touch has reassured him that we were fine.

"We're fine... just my case, it's a lot." He nods before making his way to the sofa too, sitting next to Harvey. I sit opposite Harvey and begin fiddling with my fingers as Mike and Rachel take the lead.

"So, these cases are things the police were able to grab from where Dylan lives. Or at least, from the place he works and helps manage." Rachel nods and I look up, my eyes hovering on Harvey.

"Yep, so, there are bank account details, medical records. The lot." Harvey meets my eyes and gives me a gentle smile, and I return it. "So..." We noticed the silence and looked back at Rachel and Mike. "I think that Mike and Harvey, you taken one half. And me and Amy will take the other?" Nodding, we get to work.

Boxes were being opened and papers were being tossed aside one by one. Nothing had been found suspicious apart from some payments with no name, but there wasn't enough time or evidence to make any difference. We couldn't try to cause any trouble so close to the trial.

Me and Rachel were at the sofa and Mike and Harvey were situated by the kitchen counters. We all sipped on a bottle of wine to keep our spirits up.

"So... you and Harvey?" My eyes go wide for a moment.

"Sorry?" She dips her head forward, lowering her voice.

"I see the way you look at each other. Like me and Mike do all the time..." I sheepishly looked towards the counter, noticing that Harvey eyes were on me, we exchanged smiles and looked back at our partners. "He likes you..." I open my mouth in a little shock, thinking about it. I can never tell if out feelings are real. Harvey is known for flings and I didn't know if I was that fling for him.

Could it be true? Could I be more than just a fling to him?

Digging my fingers into the box, I put out a few papers. The first made me jump to my feet, not speaking a word.

"Amy?" Harvey got up and walked towards me, placing his hand onto my shoulder in comfort. I slowly looked up to him, swallowing hard.

"We-we need to see a doctor." I rush to grab my coat.

"What why?" Mike asks.

"This paper, is to do with..." It hurt to say. "... I got pregnant, and this what Dylan paid for... I..." I take a deep breath, folding the paper and walking to get my coat. "We have to the doctor. I know who he is!" Pulling the door open, I rush out, Harvey behind me.

Harvey hails a cab, and we both make our way to the doctor who recorded this. One who I had seen just this week.

"What is it Amy?" I stared out the window and I feel Harvey's hands lace into mine. "Hey..." I swallowed my worry and plastered on an innocent, fake smile.

"It's fine..." He squeezes my hand and looks away.

I didn't know whether I should tell him. Because this, was too personal. And it had ruined my chance at a happy ending.
