°chapter twenty seven
Harvey stares at me in disbelief.
"That... son of a bitch, he promised!" He banged his clenched fist onto the desk and sighed in anger. I watched his feelings erupt before me and I could see how much he had cared about the upcoming trial. About me.
But while his emotions were anguish, mine included fear. The fear that this trial would never be over. It was only when I looked at Harvey and his soft eyes landed on me, I had extinguished them.
"Harvey, if he's our only chance for a witness then... How will you win this?" Mike asked him, the room falling silent. Harvey's mind was turning thinking of a solution and the same could be seen on Mike's face. Rachel had sat down quietly, occasionally to look back and forth from Mike, Harvey and me.
I noticed Harvey look at me from the corner of his eyes and we both thought the same thing. This was something to do with Dylan and his lap dogs.
He had me further into his view now and began to make his way to me.
"We should call him." I swallowed hard, licking my lips nervously.
"I know... he wouldn't change his mind like that Harvey. If we don't have him, we might as well just forget even turning up to court!"
"No." I look behind Harvey, Mike looking at us with determination. "You've got us. There's a reason that we are here right now., in the middle of the night." Rachel stepped towards Mike, clutching his hand and nodding. "Tell us what we need to do Harvey."
Harvey and I glanced at each other.
"We... are going to contact this doctor. Try and stay put for now." Reaching for my hand, Harvey laced his fingers into mine and leaned into me. I breathed in his scent, it was woody and unlike anything. "Let's do this."
We both proceeded to discover a room that was free, so that we could attempt to contact Dr Drake.
It was the middle of the night and both Harvey and I were exhausted.
But, before we could take any kind of nap, we needed to deal with the situation at hand.
After an hour of trying to contact Connor, we had made our way back to Harvey's office and placed the phone onto the table.
"We're never going to get in touch with him... are we?" I look up to him as I sat down onto the sofa. He shook his head and sat next to me, pressing his back against the sofa. I curled up to him, placing my head onto his chest and his left arm slowly wrapped around me.
"We will Amy... Never... underestimate me." He looked at me and smiled softly, his lips lightly pecking my cheek. "We will get a little shut eye... and..."
Harvey had never finished that sentence and, even if he did, I'd not have heard it. Before we knew it, it was one in the afternoon. It was a miracle that no one had woken us up beforehand.
"Harvey, Amy?" We both gasped out of our sleep and sat up straight. Donna stared at us in confusion. "Um... Connor Drake on the line for you..." Harvey jumped to his feet and I rushed with him to his desk.
As the door closed, Harvey answered the call from his desk, pressing a button to make sure we could both weigh in on the situation.
"Connor, what the hell are you up to?" He burst out, his voice think with anger again.
"I... I can't." I frowned, sensing a shiver in his voice.
"Connor... what happened? Did... he get to you?" There was a momentary pause and I knew I was right.
"He is threatening my license. If I appear in court he will tell lies! I'll lose my job Amy. I'm sorry." The line ended abruptly and I looked away from the phone, closing my eyes.
"He got to him... and now he's too scared to come to court. How are we going to do this Harvey?" I shouted, my voice shaking.
"We-"
"-We will sort it." I turned around. In the doorway stood Mike, Rachel, Jessica, Louis and Donna. I was slightly overwhelmed with the amount of authority that was stood in front of me and, without even knowing, I took a step back. Harvey got up from his chair and stood next to me.
"Jessica, what are you doing?" She clicked her heel forward and I tilted my head.
What was going on?
"We..." She gestured to everyone else behind her. "... are saving a fellow lawyer." My heart melted in my chest. "Amy. You are one of us now. And we will anything to keep you in this firm." I was speechless.
"Jessica I-"
"-You don't need to say anything Amy." Louis stepped forward.
"Your advice kept me from being humiliated." And then Mike and Rachel.
"You... kept Harvey busy I guess." Mike commented, all of us chuckling.
Donna stepped forward too.
"We're all here for you Amy. Both of you." I felt Harvey squeeze my hand, a big smile covering his face.
"But first... you two deserve should go home. We'll track down this doctor." Jessica said and looked at Harvey. "You too Harvey. Don't even try and change my mind." I looked at Harvey, my heart fluttering as I finally felt that we had some hope.
And, that was exactly what we did. The car was already arranged to take us back and we went into Harvey's apartment, feeling as if the weight had been lifted from our shoulder. I had a tiny bit of doubt that wondered through my mind, and as I pressed my hands against the cool counter surface, Harvey knew what I was thinking.
"Don't think about it." I was caught.
"About what?"
"You know what..." Harvey slowly walked towards me. "I trust Jessica. You should do. They'll sort it Amy... They will." I look down and take a deep breath.
I suddenly notice that Harvey's hand is hovering above my waist and looking up, I was dangerously close to his face.
We both knew what we wanted. I could feel his hunger radiating off of him and I applauded him for his passion. I wanted that passion.
And today, I knew we'd have it.
