°chapter twenty one

My dreams were more like nightmares as my brain decided to wonder into my past. It slipped into the moments in my life where I broke down completely. I was reminded by the phone call that released the fate of my parents when I was ten years old.

All of a sudden, I inhale deeply, my phone's ringtone echoing through the room. I was in Harvey bed. He had lay next to me, his chest rising and falling as he slept soundly.

He must have moved me whilst I slept. I didn't have a problem with that. I didn't mind that I slept next to him, because he made me feel capable of doing anything.

With sleepy eyes after a rough nights sleep, I reach for the phone and frown. It was an unknown number reaching out to me. Twisting to Harvey, I shake him.

"Harvey, Harvey!" He groans and his eyes immediately open, his expression coated with concern.

"What, what, what's wrong?" I flashed the phone at him, he leaned towards me and we both nod to each other.

I answer the call, pressing the loudspeaker.

"Hello?" There was a few seconds of silence as me and Harvey lowered our breathing.

"Hello dear." I licked my lips and looked down. Harvey placed his hand of my lower back.

"D-Dylan..."

"I came to deliver you a nice package, but you weren't home. I wonder where you went." I notice Harvey hand ball into a fist and shake my head.

"What the hell do you want Dylan." I growl. I hear a laugh.

"There's a special delivery for you... about..." Me and Harvey look at each other. "...now." A knock echos through the apartment and both Harvey and I get up simultaneously. He walks ahead of me and I follow him to the door. Harvey opens it abruptly.

"Miss Steele?" I nod. "You've been served." He holds out two coffee cups and I take them both, Harvey slamming the door behind him.

"Drink up dear. See you soon." The call ends and I take off the lids of both cups. One, ironically, was filled with coffee. The other, a folded piece of paper. I take it out and thrown my phone onto the table. My mouth droops and Harvey frowns.

"What is it?" He takes the paper from my hand and I watch his gaze switch from soft to anguish. "I have to go down there!" I walk to Harvey and press my hands onto shouldn't.

"Listen... we'll... Get changed, and go." He shakes his head.

"I'll go myself!"

"No, no. Harvey, I'm going with you. Let's change and we'll go okay." He doesn't answer." Okay?" He clenches his jaw and I hear him swallowed hard.

"Okay... yeah, let me get in the shower..."

Harvey walks away and disappears into the bathroom. Sighing, I change my clothes. And half an hour later, we arrive at court, on our way to the judge's office.

We are called in and open the door, and there stands Dylan with his lawyer. He immediately smiles.

"And there they are!" He jumps and Harvey and I walk in.

"Your Honour, I call this trial to be pushed back." Judge Collins frowns.

"Why so, Mr Specter?" I stay quiet, avoiding eye contact with Dylan. I could feel his eyes on me. All I felt was sick. It was sickening to be in the same room as him. It was like he was stripping me bare with his eyes.

"Because the defense has not had adequate time and we were not given any time to prepare a defense. I call the trial to be pushed back, Your Honour." The judge looks and both Harvey and the other lawyer, and lets out a sigh.

"Mr Rafferty. Since you have not given the Mr Specter time to prepare, we will give them two days to prepare their defense. Any more evidence not told to the defense will cause to to favour them, is that clear!" Mr Rafferty nods and both Dylan and his lawyer walk out.

I look away and Harvey leans forward to the judge.

"Thank you, Your Honour." Harvey ushers me out and pulls me to a corner. "At least we got a couple of days. We can..." Harvey's voice fades out and I feel my heart racing again.

I suddenly feel him grab my hand and I look up at him. "Hey... we can do this. We'll nail that bastard."

I really hope we will.
