°chapter twenty four
We had arrived at the hospital shortly after our small and secretive conversation. Harvey was accepting of how I felt and the information I was keeping from him, and I wanted to tell him. I really did. I just needed to find the right time.
Once we did arrive I was pulled into the past. The blood, the screaming and my loneliness. I was fixated on the 'hospital' sign and couldn't take my eyes off of it. My breathing had increased in pace and I didn't know how to react. I was having another panic attack and I hated it.
Suddenly, I was pulled away from my thoughts and the click of the car door opening had surprised me. Harvey had stood there with a confused face and I took a deep breath. He places his hand onto the hood of the car, and leaned towards me, looking concerned.
"Amy?" I knew that I must have looked terrified. "Hey... we'll do this..." He offered me his hand, with no hesitation. "... together. Whatever it is, I'll be right next to you, whether you want me to be or not." He meant those words and I could help but feel a weight lift off my shoulders. He was sincere and I loved him for it. And that kiss we had still lingered on my mind. Probably his too.
But now wasn't the time to speak about our relationship. Right now, I couldn't let any type of feeling get in our way. We had to remain professional, what else could I do?
Harvey had respected the fact that this was something personal and stood by my side the whole way into hospital, as we waited for the nurse to call the doctor we needed to speak to.
It had taken a few times to request its urgency, but Harvey's charms as a lawyer had made the process much quicker.
I rubbed my hands together nervously and wandered my eyes around the hospital, remembering how many times I had been here.
I jolted as a hand pressed lightly onto my back and I spin around, facing Harvey. He looked at me in concern, but my eyes were glued to the man standing behind him.
Slowly stepped forward, he softly smiled and inhaled.
"Ms Steele..." I bowed my head. "Amelia... how are you feeling?" Taking a deep breath, I pressed my lips into a thin line before speaking.
"We need your help. Can we talk in private?" Nodding, Dr Connor Drake walked us both to his office, my heart racing as knew what we needed to talk about. And, maybe it that moment something clicked. Because, I trusted Harvey to listen to my past.
Even the memories that hurt the most.
We both sat down in front of him, the door closed and my hands immediately felt clammy.
"Harvey is... my lawyer. He and I believe that you..." I swallow nervously. "... have some information related to our case." Connor's eyes widen and flash quickly to Harvey and back to me.
"Wouldn't you like some... privacy?" I slowly look over to Harvey, who placed his hand on top of mine. I laced my fingers into his and squeezed.
"No... I..." My throat goes dry. I knew the tears were going to come. "I... want him here." He nodded and turned to his computer, pulling up some files. The silence was thick with tension, mostly for me, since this was touching on the most intimate part of my life.
"Well as you know, you have had... two... miscarriages..." Harvey loosened his grip on my hand momentarily as tears began to form in my eyes. But I had to show strength, so I tried to best to keep them in. "One was at your eighth week and the other at your eleventh..." There was a momentary pause as he scrolled through some paperwork. You came in with some bruises, but that was dismissed, because you believed the fall triggered your miscarriage at eleven weeks..."
"W-was Dylan shown as their biological father, can you confirm that?"
"We... only have the one shown for your first with the non-invasive prenatal paternity test. It was confirmed he was the father. But not your second... I apologise..." I nod, gritting my teeth. There was some basis for Dylan's accusation he would use.
Connor stood up. "I'll give you two a moment to talk." And then, the door closes and me and Harvey were left alone in the room.
He speaks first, almost instantly.
"I'm sorry. I... that son-of-a-bitch is going to use this against you isn't he?" I look at him, inclining my head. "Thank you... for trusting me with this." He lifts himself up and holds out his hand to me like before.
Harvey lifts me up swiftly and I place my hands onto shoulders, his arms around my waist. We were close, but not too close.
"It's better if this comes from me and not his dirty mouth. Most likely he'll accuse me of an affair which will guarantee his win-" He pulls me a little closer and looks down to me.
"I won't let him win." Pressing his forehead to mine, I exhale deeply and his hand brushes my cheek.
He pulls me in for a kiss, our lips softly touching. Harvey knew how I felt and respected it. I wrap my arms around his neck and we don't break to breathe for a couple of minutes.
"Thank you..." I whisper and pull away slowly. "We need to see someone. Someone crucial that Dylan would go to." Harvey frowns as I walk to open the door.
"Who?"
"Dan. The only person I saw through my pregnancy."
