°chapter three
I never knew exactly where we wound up, since I wasn't paying attention to the journey- I was more focused on Harvey.
Through the years I heard rumours about the man he was. One thing was that he never, ever, lost a case. And here I was by his side, looking through a contract dispute case at a dinner, of all things, with the all so famous Harvey Spectre.
"So, Ms Steele... what will you drink?" I slam the drinks menu closed and hand it to the waiter, glancing at Harvey.
"I'll have a glass of wine. Whichever this gentleman recommends." With a coy smile playing on his lips, he exhales, ordering a bottle of Moscato for us both to share while we bounced our thoughts of the case to each other.
"This is a simple case. I guess we will be in and out. I mean I know that being a-" I lift my eyes from the pieces of paper in front of me and run my tongue to the side of my mouth. "... what?" I ask Harvey as I notice his brown eyes fixated on my face in wonderment.
"You know..." Harvey leaned back into his chair, taking a sip of his glass of red. ".. Jessica was impressed with the way you spoke to her. I mean, it was ballsy. I liked that too." Dropping my eyes for a moment I inhale, dismissing his remark.
"The fact that Mr-"
"Forget the case for a minute." He moves closer to me. "You're smart. What are you doing at Pearson Spectre Litt?" Reaching for my glass, I take a small sip, admiring the fruity notes.
"I want to prove myself." I comment.
"You could've chosen any firm in the world. Why us?"
"Mr Spectre. I've been to many different law firms in this city. And this was the only one which I believe could..." My throat closes up for a second, but I clear it. "... accept me and my skills. And I know that I will be an asset to the firm. I've heard a lot about you. And it's an... honour to work with someone with such calibre." He smirks.
"I believe you'll be an asset too. You're unlike anyone we've hired. And I want to work closely with you on this case. I mean, you even impressed Donna, and that's rare." Clearing his throat, he grasps one of papers in front of me. "And no one ever does this much research for a civil case." I lean in too.
"I'm covering all areas." Sighing, Harvey crosses his arms.
"We better get to it Ms Steele. See you tomorrow at the flat." He stands up, buttoning up his suit jacket and holds out his hand to me. I take it, pulling myself up and gathering my files.
"See you Mr Spectre." He whispers to me.
"It's Harvey, remember?"
"Amelia." I whisper back.
Watching him walk away, I slowly make my way out of the door. Of course, he offers to drive me home as I hail a taxi, however I decline his offer.
Before I knew it, the sun rose and it was morning.
It was also time to meet our client and review his side of the story.
There was adrenaline running through my veins as I was chauffered to the centre of all of my excitement.
I stepped out of my cab, and immediately, Harvey approaches me.
"I'm glad you're on time. Very different to my associate." I smirk.
"You have an associate." Harvey pushes his hands into his coat pocket.
"Am I not worthy of one?" We both walk towards the door, and I hold a oblong button.
"Oh, I didn't say that, Harvey..." Harvey and I share a smile and we are buzzed inside.
"Ladies first." He holds the door open for me and I place my foot forwards first.
"Are you sure that you aren't one?" And with that response, we meet our client.
