°chapter six

I spent most of the day searching for the only clue I had- the signature S.Percy.
It was used only once, and so many males in the world possessed the last name Pierce. Thousands with the first name beginning with an 'S.'
He wasn't exactly a known man. And of course, I didn't know what on earth he looked like. All I had to go on was his first initial and his surname.
Fat lot of good it was.
I spent hours and hours looking through Russell Bank's history.
He was married. Or at least, he was. Had two children, both quite high on the evolutionary scale. Very different from their father. More mathematical and theory based occupations.
More down my sort of street.
There were specific funds from Russell's bank account that were from Mr Percy. Most definitely the use of the word 'unknown' meant it whiffed of illegal activity and I knew that Matthew didn't have to suffer anymore if I found out what.
What dirt that Russell and his accomplice took part in.
Because two can play the game of blackmail.
The sun began to hide itself away to make the way for the moon, and the skies darkened.
It was officially the evening.
And it had been officially ten hours that I had been in my office.
"Where were you?" I glance up and notice Harvey standing at the door, his arms crossed.
"Busy." Snapping, I exhale violently and lean back into my chair.
Gosh I was exhausted.
"Doing what?" He asks and walks towards my desk, pressing his hands into the chair in front of it.
"The case." I firmly say.
"Amelia, I told you to-"
"-well, I had a feeling okay. Remember yesterday?" Harvey diverts his eyes to the floor. "... Matthew told me that he was being blackmailed. By the landlord. And I wanna know what kind of shit he's gotten into, and what kind of fucker this landlord is. And so far, I'm stumped. All I've gotten is a name. S.Percy." I throw a piece of paper at him.
Harvey picks it up from the desk and frowns.
"You're onto something?" I nod and bite my lip. "Fine." Harvey removed his suit jacket and loosens his tie.
"What are you doing?" He reaches into his pocket.
"Ordering takeaway. You like Chinese?" I lean forward and lift my eyebrow.
"Harvey..." He sighs.
"I didn't listen yesterday. So, I'm going to help." Sitting down, Harvey called up a Chinese place and ordered takeaway, and before we knew it, we were chowing down Chow Mein and spring rolls.
"I've been at this all day and still can't find anything..." I scroll down a PDF on my laptop.
There was a moment of silence and I hear Harvey swallow.
"I'm sorry about your husband." I freeze them clear my throat.
"It's... ok..."
"How long were you married for?" He placed the takeaway box on my desk.
"Four years..." I say and lick my lips. "... he was... amazing. Not a lawyer, but we met on a forensic science class. He was a total arse but I warmed up to him." Harvey chuckled.
"That's nice. My mother was an arse to my Dad. Cheated on him..."
"I'm sorry." I say and smiled a little at him. He smiles back at me.
"Yeah... Well... You can't change things now eh." Harvey leaned forward and ruffled some papers.
"Hang on... I have something... There was this one time that the landlord, Russell, he had a DUI. But it was apparently a mistake. It got cleared. So that means-"
"-someone is on the inside. Shit." Harvey runs his hands through his hair.
I suddenly gasp, my phone bursting out my ringtone. Quickly I answered it.
"Hello? What, really? It's okay Matthew, I'll talk to you soon." I throw my phone onto the table.
"What's wrong?"
"It's the landlord's lawyer. He wants to meet. And Matthew's shitting himself."
