°chapter fifteen
That morning, I had left Harvey's before he had woken up and headed into the firm.
My head was echoing his words - how he would help me me win this case. This stupid case involving my not-so-dead husband. Dylan had broken me last night, put I'm now ready to pick up those pieces put them back together. And Harvey would help me.
I had been in my office since seven in the morning. Hell, it was earlier then Louis and Jessica and I called that dedication. Although, in my mind, I was running.
I was running away. Away from those memories. Away from him.
The office wasn't somewhere I had felt safe yet, especially since my run in with Dylan. Even my home wasn't sweet anymore. It was sour. It's lucky Harvey had let me stay at his home for a few days as I sorta things out. But, I didn't want to let him. I didn't really have a choice.
After my clock struck nine, I decided to grab some coffee, so I headed to the room near the associated to grab some. Yanking a mug from one of the cupboards, I slowly pour out the coffee.
"Hey." I turned my head to the left a little, but not fully - I was trying not to show the mark on my head.
It was Mike.
"Hi, sorry, I'm hogging the coffee..." He chuckles and makes his way beside me, reaching for one of the cupboards above his head.
"Nah, it's okay. I was just seeing what I could eat..." His head drops in disappointment and I drape a lock of hair over my nearly healed scratch. "And... I never hit jackpot here." Mike lets out a small chuckle and I turn to face him. "Wow, you look tired. How long have you been here?"
"Well... nearly two hour give or take." His eyes widen in shock and he folds his arms shaking his head.
"You're... dedicated." He meant to say weird. Another word does nearly escape his lips, however, I interrupt him before he does.
"Yep." I put up my coffee cup and begin to walk to the door.
"Wait Amelia..." I bite my bottom lip and turn to face him again. I see him already frowning. "What happened?" He points at my face. Trying to look away from him, I inhale deeply. "Amelia-"
"-Amy."
"...Amy..." He smirks and reaches to touch my face. "What happened to your head?" I smack his hand out of the way.
"I just... fell... okay?" I scurry away and make my way to my office - only to pause at the door.
"Hello Amelia." Jessica sits on the edge of my desk, her arms crossed. "I need your help, since Harvey tells me you have been useful in another case." I straighten myself and walk over to my chair, placing the coffee cup by a stack of paper on my desk.
"How can I help?" She smiles and sharply inhales.
"That man you met the other day? I need you to help him with a problem." My heart stops for second. I freeze. Was she really asking me to help that bastard? "Amelia? Did you hear me?" I look at her, speechless.
"I..."
"She did hear you." Both me and Jessica turn our attention to the door.
"Harvey! How long have you been there?" He was leaning against the door frame, his head tipped to the side.
"Long enough Jessica." He stands straight and pulls his suit jacket. I look at Harvey, a little terrified. "Like I said, she heard you, but... she's helping with a case, aren't you?" Jessica turns to me and I nod my head, fiddling with my fingers nervously.
He was, helping me.
"Okay. I'll-" Harvey suddenly cuts in.
"I think you should drop Dylan." I notice him tense as he says the name. "He's trouble Jessica." Jessica lightly nods her head and walk out. I let out a deep breathe, a still a little panicked. Clearly, Harvey was serious when he said he'd help me.
"Thank you Harvey." He smiles a little and a frown crosses his face.
"You weren't there when I woke up. You... okay?" I sink into my chair and clutch the table.
"I'm fine... I just... came in early." Harvey places his hand onto my own and I look up to him. His eyes filled with warmth and sympathy. I quickly pull my hand from his. It was comforting for a moment, but I was scared.
"Look. We need to talk more about the case. Can we do that?"
"Of course." I lick my lips and stand up.
"I'll get Donna to give you the details." He darts to both of my eyes quickly. "We can crush him."
Oh, I really wanted to. But now I had to let Harvey in. And this was going to be difficult.
