°chapter eleven

"I-I-I don't understand." Harvey stutters and I was frozen in place.  "I thought you said her was... dead." Licking my lips, I slowly began to blink my way out of my daydream.

"S-so did I, I guess."

For the many years of my life, I thought he was dead.

A body was found and I knew it must've been him.

My husband, Dylan Harmon. Widely known as the best man to settle cases worldwide - and if not, he would snatch your grasp at victory. He was more than a lawyer, he was a business man and it was his life. I loved him. He was the first man to ever comment on my appearance and even have the smallest slither of courage to even consider a broken woman like me.

We met at university - he was one of those student who loved to mess around and he brought me of my shell, and that shell of mine was locked and loaded with piles of work. I hated how he was such a thrill seeker, but he showed how the thrill made adrenaline burst through your veins and made life so much better.

Dylan danced with me when no one would and at prom - he kissed me. I gave my body to him, I gave him my life and my soul and yet, he wasn't to be trusted.

And I was foolish enough to give into his charm.

"Amy? Amy!" I gasped and quickly shut out my feelings.

"I... could do with that drink." He frowned for a second, but nodded, opening the door to his car. I stepped inside and Harvey closed the door, making his way to the drivers seat.

Through the whole ride, Harvey and I remained silent. Or at least, I did. His attempt at getting me to open up had failed several times, as I would often stay quiet or change the topic entirely.

And that continued as we drank.

"Thank you." I said to the bartender and I placed a note on the table. Harvey placed his hand on top of mine and I took soft, sharp inhale.

"Let me..." I retracted my hand, taking my money with me and he paid for the drinks. "It's the least I can do. Since you won this case from Tanner." Harvey brought the cup up to his lips and took a sip.

I shuffled in my seat and Harvey turned to face me. "Amy... I know that we don't-"

"You're right." I snap. "We barely know anything about each other." He slowly backed away and I sigh, my hand trembling as I drank the whole cup.

I stood up. "See you tomorrow, Harvey..." I say and fasten my coat, walking into the cold night.

No, I didn't want to leave him flabbergasted in his seat - but if I let him in...

I know what Dylan is capable of.

When I got home, I cried again. This is what the person I loved had driven me to do. Break the mentality between reality and dream - but right now, I was living in the real world, and I had to stop what he wanted. And that paper which could destroy me, can definitely be torn.

The next day, I walked into the coffee room, only to be met by the giggling of a man and woman. I froze.

"H-hi." And it was Mike. And someone I didn't know.

"Mike... Sorry... I-"

"H-hey. This is a public place. I'm sorry." I nod and glance at the woman beside him. She was very pretty.

"I'm Rachel Zane. We were-" I put my hand up.

"It's fine, seriously. I... won't tell anybody." They smirk at each other and Rachel pours out a cup of coffee, making her way out.

Mike began to follow, but I quickly stepped in front of him. "Can I... ask you something?"

"Shoot." I smiled a little and took a deep breath.

"How would you... expose somebody who faked evidence or wanted to take everything from you?" Mike frowned.

"You're asking me?"

"Yes." I  already regretted this.

"Well, you obviously need to catch them in the act. And kick ass. Dig deep and have a good lawyer. Know if that person has good back up or ties anywhere or... it won't end well." I bite my lip. "Why?"

"Just... wanted to know. And please..." I focus my eyes on his. "Keep this between us." I make my way to the coffee pot and also pour myself a cup. My lips touched the liquid but before I could take more than a sip, a shadow hovers over me.

I turn around and I see Donna.

"You know that Jessica and Harvey are both looking for you." I put the cup down and nod at Donna. "You better hurry unless you want your head on a spike!"

Taking a deep breath, I face the corridor and turn my back to the direction to Harvey's office. I open the door to Jessica office and stand I noticed that she was talking to someone.

Jessica turned around.

"Miss Steele. I'm glad you're here." She steps to the left and my face falls. "I want you to meet Dylan Harmon."

"Hello Miss Steele."

Oh God no. I really wasn't dreaming.
