You leaned to the side looking out the car window with an uninterested gaze watching as the highway passed by. Flashes of color from road signs occasionally hit your eyesight and just as quickly left, you sighed watching as the warm air fogged your window. The dark road could be considered creepy if you didn't feel numb from your comfort of the shaking vehicle, and the sounds of rolling tires.

This was one of those moments where life felt fleeting, and one where you were left alone with your thoughts. You grit your teeth feeling the way your jaw tightened, with a distressed whine you pressed your forehead against the window. What was your life worth? What had you done with it?

You glanced over at your mother who kept her focus on the road, a sense of discomfort filled you as you looked away. You hadn't made anything of yourself, you still lived at home, you still argued with your mother in your attempts to set your boundaries.

Looking out the window once again you couldn't help but release a pathetic sigh, tears gathering in the corners of your eyes. Have you ever even apologized? Should you even? With the way she's treated you, you almost felt she was undeserving of it, and what of the times you had been difficult.

You shut your eyes tightly, blocking everything out how could someone so selfish be worth your apology, and yet there were times where she had been kind to you right? Times where she held you lamenting the world and her woes, and her childhood. You opened your eyes feeling wetness near your cheek.

You turned to speak to her, with just the two of you, perhaps a talk of feelings was okay, to get what needed to be said off your chest. You rarely ever got quiet like this, maybe just maybe this could keep you from feeling like your life was so empty and agonizingly repetitive.

"Hey, mom?" You called looking at her face, noticing the way it was brightly illuminated by passing cars, you realized all too soon how aged and tired she looked, how beaten she was too by the world. The same, you were both the same. You smiled sadly and called again.

"Mom?" Your voice seemed to echo, and you felt your stomach lurch, a sick tightening forming in your throat as though a ball had lodged itself in there. Your mother's once tired face, now seemed horrified and alert, in that moment she turned towards you reaching out her hand.

What? You could only ponder such a small word in your mind as the sound of crashing and the harsh lurching of your body happened, just as time slowed it soon caught up. You felt numb staring at the remains of your car before you. you were trembling, your head resting against the car seat behind you.

"Mom?" You called feeling almost as if your voice hadn't rung out. There was no response, instead, the silence was overwhelming. You couldn't hear the ring of car horns, the shouting, or even the sirens. Everything sounded so muffled, so distant except your voice.

"Mom?" You called again reaching for her only to find you hadn't moved. Your chest felt tight, and you felt like you couldn't breathe, you felt like you were suffocating, everything began to feel cold.

"Mom?" You tried to call out again feeling scared.

Everything around you grew blurry, it made you want to claw your eyes out as things began to grow dark. You wanted to feel anything but the cold dread that settled in you.

Please, please someone help me, anyone? You thought as against your own will that numb feeling took over and everything around seemed to slip between your fingers.

There it was again, that fuzzy darkness, had you fallen asleep? What about mom? You shot up with a panic not registering the world around you as you screamed "Okaasan!"

"Ah! Please calm down!" Someone seemed to reply in a panicked shout hands grabbing your shoulders as you squirmed, it only terrified you more as you tried to swing at the stranger. "Please stop! Are you hurt?" They shouted finally grabbing you and forcing you to keep still.

You stared up at the young man, panting and shaking. "Is your mother in danger?" He asked looking down at you in worry.

You could only stare up at him, no way. This, this had to be a dream, a cartoon character was above you. This was all dream, at least you desperately wanted to believe so, finally, you could grasp your surroundings. The harsh ground below and the soft yet firm hold around your arms preventing you from swinging.

"Tanjiro?" You murmured the familiar feeling of things growing dark and blurry repeating as you fell back, the boy shouting in surprise. Just what the hell was going on? You only recalled his surprised face from the call of his name, and the following panic as you would faint.
