Chapter 4

"Thomas, it hurts...it hurts so much," Karson groaned from her hospital bed. It had been a few months since Thomas had proposed to her, and now, she was giving birth to her firstborn children. "It'll be alright, Karson, just breath." Karson's breathing got heavier, more pain stricken, her groans turning to cries, and Thomas could do nothing to help. But, all the tension was relieved, when the hospital room was filled with the sound of crying.

The first child had arrived, a brown-haired boy, with a strong cry. "Thomas, Jacob has arrived," Karson said through her groans of pain. Thomas picked up his newborn son, his emotions swelling as he did so. He had his ideas of what it was like to be a father, but he had no idea it would feel this amazing. He felt exactly like he did when he and Karson met gazes for the first time.

"Wow, this is what it's like to be a parent. This is amazing," Thomas thought out loud. "Thomas, can I please hold Jacob," Karson asked weakly. "Of course, honey," Thomas replied, handing his fiancé her newborn child. She held the infant for a few minutes, reveling in the feeling of being a parent, before a Nurse Joy came into the room.

"I'm very sorry, ma'am, but I have to give the child a check up, make sure it's healthy. It will only take a few minutes." "Well, alright," Karson said, reluctantly giving the nurse Jacob. The nurse nodded and walked out of the room, the newborn boy in her arms. "Augh, Thomas, I think Natalie is coming now!"

Karson once again began breathing heavier and crying in pain. And once again, her pain subsided when more crying filled the room. The second child, a girl, with longer hair than her twin, had arrived. Thomas held this child far shorter than her male counterpart, as he felt that her mother deserved to hold her more. "Welcome to the world, Natalie," he told the infant.

He handed the girl off to her mother, before sitting back down and thinking. "I wonder, did they inherit our powers? Might Jacob one day have pyrokinesis? Will Natalie be able to move things with her mind like I can? Will it be vice versa, or will they have no powers?"

Just then, Nurse Joy came back in, holding a bundled Jacob. "Your child is very healthy, you two. Now, if I may, I have to give the other one a checkup," the nurse said, embarrassed. Karson nodded and gave the nurse Natalie as Thomas took the bundle that Jacob was in. The newborn boy was now gently moving around, shifting in the arms of its father.

Thomas would have passed the child to his mother, but she was sound asleep, exhausted from the process. Thomas instead sat back down, watching his child closely. A minute or so later, the baby opened its eyes, revealing the blue irises underneath his eyelids. "Well hi there, Jacob," Thomas cooed to the newborn child. "My name is Thomas, and I'm your daddy."

Nurse Joy then came in with Natalie, wrapped in a swaddling bundle. "Here you go, sir, your children are perfectly healthy," the pink-haired nurse told the disguised dragon. He carefully took the child from the nurse, before sitting back down. As the nurse excused herself from the room, Thomas showed his newborn son his twin sister. "Jacob, this is Natalie, and you two are brother and sister."

The newborn stared at the other baby, as she opened her eyes, her blue irises sparkling in the light of the hospital room. The newborn's unsure looks about what was going on around them made a smile cross Thomas' face. "Wow, I wonder what your mother would think of you two!"

Suddenly, a voice shot through Thomas' head, flooding his hearing. "You, you took my parents from me! You killed them, and you were never arrested," Karson's voice furiously asked. "Yes, correct. I eluded capture by fleeing the Kanto Region, a loophole which is still exploitable to this day. Anyone could kill you and your fiancé right now, before quickly fleeing Kanto, leaving your children in the same position you were in."

This voice was clearly trying to manipulate Karson, it's speech venomous and full of malice. "N-no, I don't believe you! That can't be true!" "Oh, but it is, Karson! And you can't do anything to stop it, well, while staying inside the law."

"Then...then I'll have to do something about this, even if it puts my family in danger." Thomas then returned to his senses, ceasing to hear Karson's argument. Thomas looked to his infant children, who were still taking in the sights around them. Thomas quickly tapped into his Pokémon side, and used Future Sight. He needed to know what would happen to Karson.

He saw his fiancé, visibly older, battling Lance of the Elite 4. She defeated him with ease, using a Latias, and though her face showed a sense of sick satisfaction, her eyes showed a life of pain and regret. "Now, I'm the leader of the Kanto Region," she announced to the crowd. Thomas quickly ended the vision, but what he saw terrified him.

"Karson...it can't be. Does she truly fall to evil?" Thomas looked to his sleeping fiancé, before looking back to his children. "The vision could be false, but mine have never been wrong. And what about these two, what role would they serve in Karson's eventual plan?"

Thomas had to make what would be the toughest choice of his life. He either had to do nothing, and risk the woman he loved falling to evil, while possibly even losing his children, or spirit his children away to where Karson would never find them, getting his children to safety, but permanently hurting the love of his life. No matter what he chose, he knew that he would always feel like it wasn't the right one. "Hey, I think I found him! Hey, is this Thomas," a man's voice rang in Thomas' ears.

"Y-yes, I'm Thomas. Who are you?" "Oh, come on, you don't remember me? Whatever happened to having a Latios' brain?" "Wait, if you know what I am, than that means...Wyatt?"

"Hey, you do remember me! How's life been treating you since we last saw you? Where did you go?" "Well, I got lost along the way, and ended up in the Kanto Region. I crash landed in the backyard of a human couple, who took me in."

"So, you've been a trainer's Pokémon this whole time?" "No, that was their plan, but I changed it when they learned I could transform into a human. Then, once I turned 10, I began my Pokémon journey. And, along the way, I met the love of my life." "You're in love with a human," Wyatt asked, exasperated.

"Yes, we're engaged now. And, we've had children. I'm holding your technical niece and nephew right now." "Thomas, this is amazing, and oddly coincidental! Rilee and I are having children too!"

Oh, really? That's awesome! Have they hatched yet or not?" "No, we're still waiting, you should come visit us in Hoenn! I bet Josh and Megan would love to meet you!"

"But, I can't leave Jacob and Natalie alone!" "Have their mother take care of them." "And how will I get to Hoenn?" "Use your true form and fly there!" "Wyatt, I haven't told Karson I'm a Pokémon!"

"You mean your fiancé still doesn't know what you really are?" "No, I've been meaning to tell her, but things keep getting in the way and I don't know if I can tell her now! Besides, it may not matter soon at all." "Tom, what's wrong?"

"Wyatt, I've seen visions of Karson's future, and they show her as a criminal. I don't know if I can let Jacob and Natalie be raised by a villain. I either let my children be raised by a criminal, or deeply hurt the only person I've ever loved. I don't know which path to take, and either one will feel like the wrong one. I'm torn between two paths, and both are equally awful."

"Thomas, I'm so sorry. I wish I could help, but I don't know that I can. Just, go with the path that will hurt less people. No matter the intensity of the pain, what's worse? One person suffering a lot, or a thousand people suffering some?"

"I guess the suffering of many is worse than the suffering of one. I know what I must do." "I know it's hard, Thomas, but you have to push through it. Keep in touch," Wyatt said, as he stopped speaking to his adoptive sibling. "Get to know your mother kids, you may not know her ever again," Thomas told the sleeping infants in his arms.

(Two Weeks Later)

"Goodnight, Thomas," Karson whispered to her husband. "Goodnight, Karson," Thomas whispered back. As they climbed into bed, Karson quickly fell asleep, while Thomas forced himself to stay awake. He took the letter he had been working on out from under his pillow, re-reading it in the pale moonlight. He had to put his plan into action now, and this letter was how he would tell his wife.

Carefully, he creeped out of bed, out of their bedroom, and to their children's room. Jacob and Natalie were in their cribs, sound asleep. Thomas woefully wrapped them in their blankets, before carrying them outside. He carried them down to the entrance of Route 1, before transforming into his Latios form. He looked back towards his home, and thought of his wife.

Karson felt something was wrong, and jolted awake. She noticed that Thomas was gone, a letter addressed to her placed where he would be lying. "Why would Thomas leave me this?" She turned on the lamp on her nightstand, before opening the letter. Had she only known what was currently going on, she wouldn't waste anytime reading the letter.

"To my one and only Karson,

By the time you read this, I will be gone.

But, there are some things that I never got to tell you in person that you have to know.

The most important thing that you need to know is something I tried to tell you the night I proposed to you. Karson...

I'm a Pokémon.

I always have been. I'm not a human, I'm a Latios disguised as a human.

My first adoptive father taught me how to take a human form before he passed, and that's what you know me as.

I'm not susceptible to the cold and bugs because of family medical conditions, it's because I'm a Psychic/Dragon-type.

But, the reason I left is because I had visions. I had visions of you taking over Kanto, and I worried for the future of Jacob and Natalie. I don't want them raised by a criminal, so I've taken them as well.

I know that this is incredibly selfish and stupid, but it's what I must do.

And if there comes a time where I see that my vision was wrong, I will come back as fast as I can, Jacob and Natalie with me.

And though we may never see each other again, my heart will always belong to you.

Forever yours,
Thomas Daines"

Karson had no idea how to feel. She felt betrayed, shocked, angry, and scared. "I-I've been in love with a Latios this whole time? Will I truly become a criminal?" Karson looked at her hands, before clenching and unclenching them, and making two flames from them. "He better hope we never meet again. Rot in the Distortion World, Thomas Daines, and take your love with you!"

Thomas saw a small light come from his room, knowing that his wife began to read the letter. "Goodbye, Karson, and may we meet again one day." Thomas shed one final tear, before flying away into the night. He knew that his children would miss their mother, but he couldn't have them fall to evil too. "Jacob, Natalie, I know it'll hurt now, but you just have to push through it."

Thomas flew to Route 23, where his adoptive mother was waiting for him, an Abra in her arms. "So, did you leave the letter," Thomas' mother asked him as he touched down. "Yes, I did, and she began to read it before I left." "I know it must have been hard, but you did the right thing. Karson will learn to forgive you someday."

"I know, but, I can tell that the children miss her already." He looked down to his twin children, who looked like they were having a nightmare. "Well, are you ready?" "Y-yes, let's go." Linda put the Abra on the Latios' back, who teleported him to the Unova Region.

There was a blinding flash of light, and a Latios with an Abra on his back and holding two bundles appeared out of the light. The Eon Pokémon looked to the newly built house, as the Abra teleported away. He floated into the house, a forlorn look on his face. This Latios was, of course, Thomas. And this was his new home.

Thomas took the children to their new room, where two cribs were waiting for them. He set the sleeping children down in them, careful not to wake them up, before looking at his twin infants. A tear came to his eye as he realized something. "Y-your mother, she'll, she'll never get to see you two grow up. Arceus, wh-what have I done?"

Thomas had no time to dwell on this, however. He was planning to go back to Hoenn, to meet his adoptive siblings, and their children. A Blissey came in, having been sent by Thomas' parents. "Blissey, take care of my children while I'm away." The Blissey nodded, as Thomas left the room and floated out of the house.

Thomas took to the skies, flying as fast as he could to Hoenn. He was terrified by the prospect of leaving his children, but he felt that he needed to quickly meet his niece and nephew. He got to Hoenn quickly, his Latios form being able to fly at subsonic speeds. His siblings told him that they lived in Petalburg Woods, so Thomas flew near the clouds, trying to sense his siblings. But, he nearly fainted when he found his sister, and then lost her.

From his perch beneath the clouds, Thomas could see the entire scene. He saw a red-haired woman get chased to the edge of a cliff, before she let herself fall off. Then, as the woman almost hit the ground, she became enveloped in a glow, and transformed into a Latias that Thomas knew well. His sister flew above the cliff face, and directly towards Thomas, as if she knew that he was there. But, as she flew towards him, she was hit by a Shadow Ball, and crashed into the woods.

A few minutes of worrying later, a Latios, carrying the same two bundles as the Latias, flew towards Thomas. Once the two Latios converged, they looked into each other's eyes. "Thomas, it's...it's been quite a while." "Yes, it has, Wyatt. Is...is Rilee alright?"

"No, she was killed by a...by a Shadow Ball. Josh and Megan, now they'll never meet her." "I'm, I'm sorry. That must be so hard for you. To lose the person who you were basically born to be with."

"Thomas...please, I need your help. I need a new place to live, the whole Hoenn Region will be looking for me. Is there anywhere I can be safe?" Thomas thought for a bit, before an idea. "How about Sinnoh?"

"Sinnoh, makes sense. Let's go. You want to hold one of them," Wyatt asked, slightly moving his children. "S-sure, I guess." He took one of the bundles, looking inside at the child inside.

He was greeted by a small Latias, but not a normal one. Her scales were golden, and her eyes were a beautiful emerald green. "Wyatt, your daughter, she's Shiny?" "Yes, Megan is a Shiny Pokémon, her brother is too." Wyatt leaned his bundle forwards, showing a teal-scaled Latios.

"Well, they're beautiful. You're truly lucky to have them." "I know...I just wish she was still here." They nodded solemnly, before taking off for Sinnoh.

They landed on Route 208 a half hour later. "Well...it was good seeing you again, Thomas. Our children should meet sometime." I'm sure they will. But I must get back to mine. Goodbye, Wyatt," Thomas said, before racing to Unova as fast as he could.

Thomas got back home 45 minutes later. He flew into his new home to find his children crying uncontrollably. The Blissey looked distraught, not knowing what to do. Thomas went into human form, put on clothes, and took his children, who calmed down slightly as they felt his heartbeat. Natalie eventually stopped, but Jacob refused.

Thomas, not knowing what to do, set them back in their cribs, before going off to find something. He came back with the two Soul Dew of his adoptive parents, treasures he had cherished for most his life. He came back and put an orb in each of the infant's cribs. "These are special charms, and I want you to cherish them forever." The twins stopped crying almost immediately as they held the two objects.

Thomas smiled at his children. His children quickly fell asleep, their small hands clutching their Soul Dew. Thomas kissed both their foreheads, before going to his room. He climbed into bed, thinking. :They gain comfort from the Soul Dew, so are they Pokémon?:

Fatigue was catching up to Thomas rapidly."Did they inherit Karson and I's powers? Oh, Arceus, Karson...what would she think of me now? I betrayed her trust, I took our children from her...but...what if it was right?" The two lovers, thousands, maybe tens of thousands of miles away, both cried themselves to sleep that night.

[Present Day]

"Wow, dad. It must have been hard to make that choice," Jacob commented. "Harder than anything I've ever had to do." "Wait, your name is Karson, not Malus," Natalie asked. "Yes, it is," her mother said. "I'm glad we're all a family now," Jacob and Natalie said in tandem. "Us too," Thomas and Karson said, before Thomas added, "And nothing will tear us apart ever again."
