Chapter 3
A blizzard was brewing on Route 12. Sheets of snow were falling so rapidly, no one had any idea how much it would be. Many fled to the indoors for protection, but some unlucky few were trapped out in it. Most trainers had Fire-types to keep them warm, and had their Poké Balls to keep their Dragon, Grass, Ground, and Flying-types safe. However, one dragon in disguise was caught out in the storm, and he had nowhere to run.
Thomas and Karson were caught in the storm, and were hiding in a cave for the storm to pass. "Man, good thing we found this on time, isn't it," Karson asked her traveling partner. Thomas wasn't listening, but instead sitting against the wall of the cave, teeth chattering. "K-Karson, I'm n-not g-gonna m-make it," Thomas stuttered. "Tom, are you alright?"
"No, I'm not, Karson. My family has a history of susceptibility to the cold. I'm slowly dying of hypothermia here." "No, Thomas, I won't let you die here! I said we're beating the Pokémon League together, so we're beating the Pokémon League together!"
Thomas just gave a small smile, before passing out. Karson desperately shook him, trying to wake him up, but to no avail. As a last resort to end last resorts, she rubbed her hands together, blowing hot air between them, trying to warm Thomas back up. But, as she did, an odd warmth began to fill her hands. Her hands began to glow a soft orange color, and between her palms, a small ember formed out of midair.
Karson stared at the small flame, watching how it moved, how it stayed alive. She pushed the ember against her skin, only to find it caused her no harm. She began manipulated the flame, making it rise, fall, and move. Once she found that she could move the flame, she quickly pushed it towards her frozen friend. The flame lingered around the dragon in disguise, but still, he was frozen.
Karson was about to give up at this point, ready to accept the death of her only friend and partner since the 2nd day of her journey. She held his hand in her own, it's fingers cold and lifeless. "Thomas, I'm sorry. I couldn't save you. And now, you're going to die, and I'm going to be alone."
Karson began sobbing, as another flame began appearing under her skin. However, this flame appeared inside of Thomas' hand. The heat from the flame spread rapidly throughout the disguised Latios' body, warming him up and negating the effects of his hypothermia. When the cold was off of him, Thomas fell to the floor of the cave, gasping for air. He looked over to Karson as he caught his breath, before tackling her into a hug.
"Tom, you're safe," Karson cried as she hugged Thomas back. "Y-yeah I am. Karson, what was that? How did you get me unfrozen," Thomas asked as he released Karson. "I don't know, I just began rubbing my hands together, and a flame appeared between them."
"Wait, haven't you said that you were visited by an Entei when you were born?" "Well, that's what my parents told me, and I still have dreams about that apparent moment." "Well, my parents taught me that very rarely, a child is born with legendary Pokémon's powers, like the ability to control water or ice. You must have the ability to control fire! And that Entei must have given it to you!"
"Wait, which set of parents?" "Oh, very funny, Karson." "Hey, I was just kidding. But for real, how have I not known I can do this before?" "The universe works in mysterious ways, and your powers have only now decided to manifest."
"You're a nerd, you know that, right?" "Yes, and I'm proud to be one!" "Well, it's like 10:00 at night, we should get to bed." "Yeah we should. Here, I'll get the sleeping bags."
Thomas' hand began glowing a faint purple, before the two sleeping bags he needed floated over to him. "Wait, you have a power too?" "Yes, I do, Karson. I never said I told you everything about me. Here you go, m'lady," Thomas explained, before handing Karson her sleeping bag.
"Thank you, my good sir," Karson giggled. The two 11-year olds climbed into their sleeping bags, before laying down on the floor of the cave. "Goodnight, Karson." "'Night, Tom." They fell asleep in the cave, as the blizzard kept brewing.
(Years Later)
"C'mon, Tom, are you really gonna be late for the thing you arranged," Karson asked to nobody. Thomas had asked her to meet him at this spot near the end of Route 23, and he was almost late for the time he set. "Oh well, you never have been very punctual, have you," Karson said to herself, remembering when she first met Thomas. "No, I really haven't, now that you mention it," Thomas replied from nowhere.
Karson looked to her side and saw Thomas, his cropped, brown hair shining in the sun, leaves scattered throughout his caramel strands. "So, hiding in a tree, were you?" "Can you blame me? It is how we first met." "That it is, that it is."
Karson scooted a bit closer to her boyfriend, grasping his hand with her own. "So, why did you want me to come here?" "There's...something I wanted to ask you, something that's been on my mind for a long time." "And, what is it?" Thomas was debating with himself inside, wondering what to do.
"She deserves to know who you really are. It's why you wanted her here! But if she doesn't learn now, she will later on, and her trust in you will break. Keeping that a secret was a terrible idea! But what if telling her makes her say no to what I want to do? Will she feel the same way if she knew I was a Latios?" Thomas had to make his decision, and fast.
Karson stood up, wondering what was going on. "Tom, why are you just sitting there? What did you want to do?" "I was waiting for the perfect moment, hun," Thomas responded, before shifting his stance so that he was down on one knee in front of Karson. He pulled the small box he had been keeping in his pocket out of it, ready to make his move.
He showed the box to Karson, a smile crossing his face uncontrollably, while his date knew exactly what was happening. "Karson, ever since we first met, all those years ago, you've made me the happiest I've ever been. Everyday that we spend together just makes me love you even more. I guess what I'm trying to say is, Karson," Thomas said, opening the box and exposing the ring underneath. "Will you marry me?" "Yes, Thomas, I will!"
Thomas closed the box and hugged Karson's waist, before lifting her up and spinning her around a few times, both of them laughing the whole way. When he set her down, Thomas slipped the ring onto Karson's finger, before they shared a kiss. But, as they released themselves from each other's embrace, Thomas felt a pang of guilt. He knew he had to tell her what he truly was. He just hoped she would still love him.
"Karson, there's...something else I need to tell you." "Wait, Thomas, there's something I need to tell you, too. Here," she said, moving her fiancé's hand to her stomach area. "Karson, what's wrong? Why is your stomach so large now?"
"Tom, I'm pregnant," Karson whispered to her fiancé. "Y-you are! T-this is great news! Have you learned what you're having?" "Yes, I'm having twins; one boy, one girl."
"Have you decided on names yet?" "No, I was thinking you could name them." "Well, how about Jacob? Jacob and Natalie." "Jacob and Natalie, I like it!"
"Well, I should break the news to my parents. Both of our wedding, and that they're going to be grandparents." "You go do that, honey," Karson said, kissing Thomas on the cheek. Thomas quickly went to his parents house at the top of the route, both excited and terrified to tell them. "Well, Thomas, how did it go," Linda asked as her adoptive son walked through the door.
"Well, the plan took a slight detour. I debated in my mind whether to follow the plan or jump ahead a step or two. I jumped ahead, and now, Karson and I are engaged." "Oh, I'm so happy for you two! So, did you tell her after that?"
"No, I tried to, but she had something else to tell me. Wait, where's dad?" "I can hear you, Thomas, now finish your thought," his father hollered from the kitchen. "Well, here goes nothing. Linda, David, I'm a father."
The looks of shock on both the adult's faces was unparalleled. "Y-you mean, Karson is pregnant? But, how? She's a human, you're a Pokémon, how did it happen," David stammered from the kitchen. Linda, however, had a different expression.
Linda was in the same state of shock, before an uncontrollable and infectious smile crossed her face. "Oh my Arceus, this is amazing! Do you know what she's having? When are you expecting to deliver? What names are you considering?"
"Mom, mom, slow down. So, Karson is having twins, one boy, one girl. We're naming the boy Jacob, and the girl Natalie. And I don't know when she's expecting to deliver them. But, that is all I have to say."
Thomas' father walked out of the kitchen and over to him, before putting his hand on Thomas' shoulder. "Thomas, I'm happy for you, and I'm very excited to be a grandfather, but you know what you need to do. If you don't tell Karson the truth now, you'll regret it for the rest of your life. Karson will find out eventually, and if you keep hidden longer than you already have, her trust in you will be destroyed. I know it's scary, and I know it's tough, but you need to do it, for the both of you."
"I...I understand. It's not going to be easy, but I have to tell her. I just hope she still loves me after this." "I know she will, Thomas. You and Karson have a strong bond, and your love should be fine if you tell her."
Thomas walked out of his parent's home, back towards Karson, who was now leaning against Scottie, who had become a Stoutland years ago. "Oh, Scottie, I can't believe how much our life has changed since we began our adventure all those years ago. Imagine where we'd be if we hadn't met Thomas. Imagine where we'd be if...if mom and dad were still alive." "Hey, now's not the time for crying, hun," Thomas interrupted, sitting next to his fiancé.
"So, how'd it go? Were they elated to find that they're going to be grandparents?" "Do you really need to ask?" "I guess not." Thomas couldn't stop thinking about what he had to do, how he had to tell Karson that he was a Pokémon, and he always had been.
"Karson, there's something I have to tell you." "Wait, Thomas, I have something for you. Here," Karson said, handing Thomas a Poké Ball with multiple heart seals on it. "My mother always told me to give this to the person I would marry, as a symbol of our love. And now, I'm finally fulfilling her wish."
Thomas took the Poké Ball, staring at the seal-encrusted capsule. "I...I love it. Thank you, Karson." "No, Thomas, thank you. So, what did you need to tell me?"
Thomas had to carefully consider his options. He had been able to keep his facade up for over 10 years, but he would most likely slip up soon. If he told her the truth, she may not want to be with him anymore, she may treat him differently if she knew he was a Pokémon, but he would at least have told her the truth. "Karson, I'm...
"I'm so excited to be a father!"
