Chapter 63
Jimmy took a deep nervous breath as he followed the rest of the group up the stairs. This was his first time going out in public since he learned the truth. Well, it wasn't really public. The only person here who didn't know was Mrs. Toast. Unfortunately for him, she was the one person whose opinion really mattered to him... other than Gavin's, of course. He just really wanted to get onto her good side before certain things inevitably came to light. Jimmy was pulled from his thoughts when Gregory began to talk.
"So... we gotta keep everything on lock today, ok? No weirdo paranormal shit."
Johnny nodded in agreement.
"Gregory is right. Mother doesn't know anything, and I really think we should keep it that way. I just don't feel like she could handle the truth." Johnny sighed. Jimmy frowned.
"Why not?" he asked.
"That's just the feeling I get. She doesn't have any experience with the paranormal. Other than my condition, that is. And she didn't take that news well at all."
"Fair. No paranormal talk, got it."
"It's for the best... but for now I have something to discuss with Gregory. Could you two leave us alone for a few minutes?" Johnny questioned. Gregory seemed confused, causing Jimmy and Gavin to glance at each other suspiciously. They didn't argue however, quickly exiting the room as requested. Jimmy took this as an opportunity to look at the pictures that were hanging in the hallway. He couldn't help but giggle at how grumpy Gavin looked in most of them, especially when he was a kid. The teen was almost always smiling nowadays. It made him wonder what changed. He turned when he heard a quiet scoff from behind him.
"Fascinating?" Gavin asked. His voice was thick with amusement.
"Very! I've never seen little Gavin."
"Well now you have! Now you have to let me see baby Jimmy."
"You've already seen baby Jimmy!"
"Really?"
"Yeah! My mom has like a million pictures on the mantel."
"Oh. I guess I'm not very observant." Gavin chuckled. Jimmy playfully rolled his eyes, unable to stop himself from grinning.
"Apparently not."
"I'll have to take a look next time I'm at your place. ... so do you wanna hop online for a bit? Maybe play a few rounds?"
"Sure."
Jimmy followed the older teen down the hall and to his room. He plopped down on the edge of his bed, unable to stop himself from staring at Gavin as he set up the game. Something about him was different. That's when he finally noticed. His hair was different, but he couldn't quite place how. It was messy but in the most perfect way. Jimmy felt his heart skip a beat when the Brit turned to him, a playful smirk forming on his face.
"Like what you see, hm?"
Jimmy scoffed.
"Oh shut up! Your hair looks different, that's all."
"Different?"
"Yeah. Did you do something different?"
"I guess I did, yeah. Mum made me put a bunch of gel in my hair but I decided to wash it out in the sink before you got here." Gavin explained. Jimmy nodded slowly.
"Huh. Well it looks good."
The teen stared at him for a moment, clearly thinking about his words. Jimmy watched curiously as Gavin moved forward, sitting on the bed right next to him. Their legs were pressed right up against each other.
"Maybe I should do this more often then, hm? Being that you like it so much?"
"I think so."
"I'll keep that in mind. ... speaking of looks, I really love being able to see those pretty eyes of yours~" Gavin purred. Jimmy's heart was really pounding now. He could tell from his tone that the Brit was being genuine.
"Oh, t-thanks. You noticed my glasses, huh?"
"I did."
Jimmy didn't know what to say. No one had ever talked this way to him before. He loved it. Listening for a moment, he was glad to hear that their brothers were still talking in the other room. They had time. Jimmy turned back to Gavin, glad to see that he seemed to be thinking the same thing. Checking that the door was closed one last time, the two carefully leaned forward, exchanging a light kiss. They quickly pulled away, gazing into each other's eyes. Gavin slowly reached forward, gently caressing his face. Jimmy damn near instinctively leaned into his hand. His touch was just so loving and warm. It made the voices damn near silent. He wanted to say something but just couldn't. On one hand he wanted to discuss last nights events. On the other, he wanted to give into his sappy nature. Thankfully Gavin soon chose for him.
"... so how's your head?"
"It's fine, quiet for the most part."
"Good. I'm surprised you're not freaking out harder after... you know, everything that happened yesterday."
"Me too. I guess you must've cured me."
Gavin gave him a confused smile, his brows furrowing lightly.
"Cured you? How?"
"Like this~"
Having thoroughly set up the bit, Jimmy gave the older teen another soft smooch. He carefully held it this time, his heart pounding in his chest as he fought the urge to pull away. He could feel the Brit smile into it, causing him to do the same. That's when they heard the door creak open. They jumped away from each other at lightning speed. They were just able to get into a less damning position before it opened fully. Their brothers stared at them with suspicious looks on their faces. It was a close call to say the least.
"Ma said we have 20 minutes until dinner." Gregory told them. His voice was a tad shaky, almost as if he wasn't sure if he was allowed to talk.
"Cool. ... so what'd you two talk about?" Jimmy questioned.
"Nothing much. What did you two talk about?"
That uncertainty quickly transformed into amusement. Jimmy knew exactly what his brother meant.
"Video games."
"Uh huh. Sure."
Jimmy just playfully sneered, turning away. He could practically feel their brother's eyes burning into the side of head. He couldn't help but grin when his boyfriend-not-boyfriend suddenly stood, shooing the teens back into the hallway.
"Yeah yeah, get outta here. How about you two go see if mum needs help setting the table?" he suggested. Johnny nodded, a mischievous look in his eyes.
"Good idea. You two will be playing 'video games' up here then, hm?"
"Shut up."
Gavin gave him no chance to respond, closing the door right in their faces. The Brit then turned back to him, a bashful smile on his lips. He returned to his spot next to him on the bed.
"How brave of you." Jimmy chuckled. Gavin just shrugged lightly, pulling him close once more. Jimmy swore he was melting.
"So brave... so what was that you were starting to do when they came in?"
"... nothing."
"Nothing? Huh. You have a weird definition of nothing."
Jimmy couldn't bring himself to maintain eye contact any longer. His heart doing all sorts of funny things. He soon began to wonder if earliers ballsy venture was a good idea. He had just rattled the bears cage.
