Chapter 61

The night came and went. They talked for hours, trying to make sense of all this. Jimmy, while still unstable, was getting better. Before they knew it the sun had begun to rise. Scanning everyone's faces, Gregory could tell that everyone was exhausted. Even so, no one wanted to sleep. Their brains were working overtime. There were just so many things to address. Gavin's powers, Gregory's apparent outburst, their demon blood. The questions were piling up and they had almost no answers.

"... it's almost six in the morning. We should be going, Gavin." Johnny sighed. The Brit frowned.

"We can't leave now. We have so much to talk about."

"That's true, but we don't have any leads or answers right now. We need time to think."

"And then what?"

"And then we'll regroup." Johnny told him. Gregory nodded in agreement.

"That's right. You guys are gonna see us later anyways. We're coming over for dinner, remember?" he questioned. Gavin's eyes grew huge.

"Oh yeah. That'll be interesting."

"How so?"

"We just know so much more about each other now. I don't know about Jimmy, but my world has been rocked." the teen chuckled. Jimmy quickly nodded in agreement.

"1000% same."

The four continued to chat as they slowly made their way to the front door. Johnny quickly ran upstairs to grab his bag. Gregory decided to join him, giving the soon-to-be boyfriends some alone time. Johnny soon noticed him and gave him a small smile.

"Giving them time to smooch, hm?" he chuckled.

"You know it."

"That's good. I think they're sweet."

"I do too. ... I feel so bad for trying to break them up before. I didn't know that they felt strongly for one another." Gregory sighed. Johnny just lightly shook his head.

"You need to stop blaming yourself for things like this. You were just trying to protect them."

"I know, I-... I guess I just wasn't expecting them to be romantic towards each other. They sure as hell weren't in the other timeline."

"I must say, I wasn't expecting it either."

"... anyways, we should probably head back. I think we've given them enough time. Hell, they probably think we're having our own encounter up here." Gregory giggled. Johnny playfully rolled his eyes. He could see his cheeks grow red in the early morning light.

"Who's to say, maybe we are~"

Gregory was shocked by his flirtatious tone. After that strange moment they had on the couch earlier, he wasn't sure what to think. At the same time, he could tell he was joking. At least he was this time.

"Who knows. Now let's go! Clearly the lack of sleep is getting to your brain."

Johnny nodded. The two quietly made their way downstairs, careful not to wake his mom. They turned the corner just in time to see Gavin and Jimmy pulling away from each other, warm smiles on their faces. The two silently agreed to pretend like they saw nothing.

"That's everything. Let me know if anything happens between now and tonight, ok?" Gregory said to Johnny, mostly to get their brother's attention. The Brit nodded.

"I will. I'm sure everything will be alright."

Gregory turned to the teens. Their smiles had grown a bit more sheepish than before. It was clear they were trying to play something off. The group moved out to the front porch, the twins separating into their respective pairs.

"See you later, guys." Jimmy sighed. The Brits waved. They parted, Gregory waiting until he couldn't see them anymore to head inside. He locked the door, slowly making his way back up to his room. Jimmy followed close behind. The exhaustion truly began to set in, and they buried themselves into their respective beds.

"... you ok, Jim?" Gregory questioned, rolling over to face him. His brother just shrugged.

"I guess so. I don't think I'll ever fully understand this."

"Understand what? The timeline thing?"

"Any of it. My whole view of the world has just been totally skewed, you know? ... I still can't believe that we're half demons." he huffed. Gregory couldn't help but agree. He had known for a while and yet he still had a hard time wrapping his head around it too.

"It's hard to believe, I know. It definitely explains a lot though."

"True. I wonder if we have powers or some shit."

"I don't know. I mean I've always been a bit sensitive to the paranormal, if that counts." Gregory offered. Jimmy seemed intrigued.

"Huh. You're gonna have to tell all about it later."

"Oh hell yeah. ... goodnight, Jimbo."

"Goodnight, Gregs."

With that the two fell silent. It didn't take long for Jimmy to fall asleep, his tiny snores filling the room. Gregory found comfort in the repetition of his breathing and soon felt himself starting to drift off. He fought hard to keep his worries away. He knew he would need all the strength he could get for tonight.
