Chapter 60

Gavin couldn't believe he just did that. He just kissed his best friend. His best friend, who he had just found out was a demon. He felt like he was melting, but that could be because of the literal fire that was burning inside him. Glancing at himself in the window, he could see that his eyes were ablaze. He knew exactly why, and so did Jimmy. They soon made it to the kitchen. The American turned to him, a little goofy grin on his face.

"We've got rainbow sherbet or butter pecan, pick your poison."

"Rainbow, please."

"Makes sense." Jimmy giggled. Gavin rolled his eyes, trying not to show how embarrassed he was.

"Yeah yeah, real funny."

His friend scooped some into a bowl, handing it to him. He then fixed some for himself.

"Chilllll, I'm having some rainbow too~"

He ended that sentence with a little wink. Gavin was certain the teen was trying to kill him. The two sat at the kitchen table, eating their ice cream in a comfortable silence. Mrs.Casket soon appeared from around the corner. She gave them a small smile, that smile immediately disappearing when she made eye contact with him.

"... are you ok, honey?" she asked.

"I'm ok. Why?"

"Your eyes."

"Oh. Yeah, I'm fine. It's just an emotional response." Gavin sighed. The woman nodded slowly.

"Well that's good. So what are you?"

"What do you mean?"

"You know, are you human?" she questioned. Gavin thought hard, not sure how to respond to that question. His mom was human, and as far as he knew his dad was too. Then again, he hadn't seen his dad since he was little. It was entirely possible that there was more to the man than he knew.

"I think so, but I guess I'm not sure. ... please don't hunt me."

Mrs.Casket stared at him for a moment before letting out a surprisingly hearty laugh, shaking her head. She turned her back to him, grabbing a juice box out of the fridge.

"I would never."

"Really?"

"Yes really! My sons are half demons, my husband is literally from hell. A little magic is nothing." she chuckled. Gavin nodded, thankful for her friendly tone.

"That's good. Well not good, but you know. ... thank you."

"There's no need to thank me, sweetheart. So, you have powers and your brother's a werewolf. Is your mother supernatural too?" she asked. Gavin shrugged.

"I don't think so, but I guess I don't know. Up until we came to America we were perfectly human. But you know, Johnny's apparently from the future. Maybe he knows something."

"That's true. ... well I'll leave you boys alone for now. Will you be ok, Jimmy?"

The teen nodded quickly.

"I'm ok. Gavin's got me."

The woman's gaze returned to Gavin. The best he could offer her was a sheepish smile. Something strange flashed across her face. It was almost knowing. After a moment she returned the grin, heading back upstairs. No more than a minute later their brothers appeared, weird looks on their faces. They joined them at the kitchen table.

"You have your powers?" Johnny questioned. Gavin's heart skipped a beat.

"You know about them?"

"We do. You had them in the other timeline too."

"Oh. ... you said I was some sort of crime lord in that timeline. Did I use my powers for bad?" Gavin asked. The two glanced at each other, inadvertently answering his question before they even said anything. His brother took a deep breath, sitting in one of the open chairs.

"You didn't use them often, but when you did there were terrible consequences."

"Like what?"

"Well one time you got caught out by the police in the middle of a heist. You tried to distract them by lighting one of the cops' cars on fire. It was terrible, but it was contained. ... until it wasn't. You had a problem with knowing when to stop. That one car soon turned into a building, and that building turned into a whole city block. Fortunately stuff like that was rare, you usually just stuck to guns." Johnny explained. Gavin was mortified.

"You didn't do anything to stop me?! Why?!"

"You would've been pissed. You never really wanted to hurt us but you probably would've just by accident. You weren't the most stable person."

"I-... well-... I'm not gonna turn out like that in this timeline, am I?"

Johnny must've been able to hear the worry in his voice because he quickly shook his head, giving him a comforting smile.

"No, you're not. Gregory and I are able to help you now, at least better than we could before. Besides, things are different this time around. You're much more 'agreeable'."

"Me? Agreeable? I must've been a real bellend, huh?" he chuckled. Johnny grinned.

"You still are."

Gavin scoffed, rolling his eyes. He looked to Jimmy as casually as he could. The teen was staring at him with great fascination and just a hint of admiration. He couldn't help but feel overjoyed by this. It just made him so happy to know that someone liked him. Like, liked him liked him. The joy that brought him, along with the ice cream, was enough to cool him off for now. He just hoped he wouldn't flare up again, at least for a while. He wasn't sure if he would be able to control himself next time.
