Chapter 57

"Mama, are you an investigator?" Gregory gasped, his eyes huge. His mom nodded.

"Was. I'm retired now."

"Why did you retire? Did you get into a huge fight?"

The woman let out a little chuckle, shaking her head.

"No, I quit when I found out I was pregnant with you two. Hunts are just no place for a pregnant woman, especially considering the field I was in."

"Field? What field?" Gregory questioned.

"I specialized in demonology and demon hunting. Me and some old friends used to go to really haunted places and purposely seek them out. We studied them, and when we were done we exorcized them. ... looking back, it wasn't very ethical." she sighed. Gregory was amazed. Paranormal investigation was literally in his blood. He should've known. He glanced back at the others. Both Gavin and Johnny looked blown away, especially Johnny. He figured his partner must've been pretty excited to finally be learning more about him. Gregory knew damn near everything there was to know about the Brit, it was only fair he learned a few things too. That's when his gaze turned to Jimmy. The look on his twin's face was haunting. Gregory scooted a bit closer to him, his eyes softening.

"Are you ok? I know this is a lot to take in."

'I-I'm fine, I just-... you saved me. You saved me from such a terrible thing." he whispered. His tone of betrayal had melted away entirely, leaving a despairingly thankful one behind in its place. Gregory nodded slowly.

"I guess I did. I mostly just worked my ass off to prevent that shit from happening."

"Is that why you've been so far up our asses lately?"

"Yeah. I just couldn't bear to have you or any of us go through that again."

"Jesus, I'm sorry for the way I've been acting." Jimmy muttered. Gregory smiled.

"It's fine, I totally get it."

He leaned forward, giving his twin a gentle hug. Jimmy hugged back, relaxing into him. That was, until he apparently thought of something else.

"... hey Gregs?"

"Yeah?"

"If you're from the future, does that mean you know what's wrong with me?" he asked. Gregory's heart skipped a beat. The two pulled away from each other. Jimmy's face was filled with curiosity. Gregory looked to his mom, unsure what to say. The woman looked almost as uncertain as he felt. He also glanced at Johnny, who just shrugged. After an unbearably awkward minute of silence, his mom finally spoke up.

"You're not human, honey. Neither is your brother."

Jimmy gasped, his face filling with horror. His whole body grew tense.

"What?! What do you mean?"

"Well you remember how I said I specialized in demonology? Met a lot of demons?"

"Yeah?"

"One of those demons was your father. ... and before you say anything, yes it was consensual."

"How- wha- oh my god!" Jimmy cried. He stood, soon beginning to pace. Gregory did the same. He had the Brits back away preemptively, knowing that things could go south at any moment. Johnny almost looked guilty, while Gavin looked both fascinated and appalled. Jimmy suddenly turned to Gregory, his eyes ablaze with rage. They were pure red. He had never seen him switch so quick.

"Jim-"

"You fucker, you didn't tell me?!"

"Don't get mad at me! I've only known for a couple weeks!"

His fists clenched as he scanned all of their faces, seemingly disgusted by every single one of them.

"What the hell is with you people?! You're all liars? Gregory and Johnny are from the future, and mom is a demon smooching freak?! Is there anything you need to tell me, Gavin?" he snarled accusingly. The Brits eyes grew huge with panic.

"I've told you everything, I swear!" Gavin whimpered. Gregory was damn near stunned when he noticed that the Brits fingertips has begun to glow. Johnny noticed this too, his face soon twisting into the same fearful look his brother had. His mom soon stepped in, cautiously getting his brothers attention.

"Jimmy it's ok, just calm down. Everything will be ok." she told him, her voice gentle yet commanding.

"I just don't get it! Why would you tell Greg and not me?"

"Because I knew you'd react like this. You're much more in touch with your demon side than Gregory is, so I knew you would feel more strongly about it. ... but that's ok! There's nothing to be ashamed of!"

Jimmy clearly wasn't sure what to the think. He seemed like he wanted to say something, but for some reason he just couldn't. After what felt like forever the teen began to walk away, not saying a word.

"Where are you going?" Gregory asked. Jimmy didn't stop, answering from about half way down the stairs.

"I'm gonna get some fresh air."

"Ok. Don't go to far."

"Whatever."

The group heard Jimmy storm out of the house. They all stared at each other, taking the time to process what had just happened.

"Well that went better than expected." his mom sighed, smiling. She sounded full blown relieved. Gregory was floored.

"That was better than expected?"

"Yeah! After he tried to kill me the other day I kinda just expect the worst now."

"Oh. I guess that makes sense. So what now?"

"We just need to wait for him to cool off now. ... so boys, do you have any questions?" the woman asked, turning to the Brits. The both nodded almost instantly. Johnny went first.

"Absolutely! I suppose the first thing I'd like to know is why Gregory doesn't seem to have any outburst like Jimmy does."

His mom immediately chuckled.

"Oh he does, he just hasn't had one in a long time! He used to rage out all the time when he was a kid! I think the last time he really freaked out was when he was 9."

"Really?"

"Yeah! He gets the glowing eyes and everything. His are a bit more purple than red though."

Gregory couldn't help but scoff.

"Now I know you're making things up. I've never had an episode on my own like that before, not even in the other timeline."

"Well I don't know about the 'other timeline', but in this one you certainly did. You probably just don't remember because of the time travel and whatnot. You were an angry little shit."

Gregory had no clue what to think. He wondered how things would've been if the "original" him would've continued on in this timeline. From how things were sounding, he might have even been this timelines Jimmy. The thought of that sent a shiver down his spine. Johnny noticed his discomfort and carefully placed a hand on his own, a calming yet questioning look in his eyes. Gregory knew this was going to be a long night.
