Chapter 49

Gregory let out a stressed huff as he hopped out of his friend's truck, slinging his bag over his shoulder. Johnny had decided not to join him for the confrontation, a choice that he fully agreed with. The Brit had been horribly unstable as of late and neither of them wanted to risk another incident. Johnny looked at him with worried eyes and a furrowed brow.

"Let me know what happens."

"I will."

"... if you need my help for any reason just let me know, ok? I'll get here as quickly as I can."

"I'll be fine. Just go home and relax. You need it." Gregory sighed. Johnny nodded, clearly still wigging out. He thought for a moment before deciding to lean up, giving his friend a tiny peck on the cheek before leaving. His friend's face turned deep red and he stared, shocked. Gregory just amusedly waved, watching Johnny eventually drive away. Normally he wouldn't do something like kiss his best friend, but he really wanted to give him something to think about other than the situation at hand. He didn't really have a crush on him or anything like that. Maybe. Gregory eventually nervously pulled out his keys, unlocking the front door. He could hear swearing coming from inside. He took a deep breath before entering. He was confused by what he saw. Two mostly full backpacks and their brothers looking startled.

"Hey Gregs." Jimmy muttered, putting on one of the backpacks. Gavin didn't say a word.

"Uhh hi. Where are you two going?"

"Out."

"Uh huh. Ok, well can we at least talk for a bit first?" he questioned. His twin shook his head, not even looking at him.

"No. We're leaving now."

"Leaving? Why?"

"We wanted to give you and Johnny a chance to cool off. We know you're angrier than you're letting on." Jimmy explained. Gregory let out an annoyed huff.

"We're not that angry, ok? We just wanna know why you guys are so obsessed with each other. You can't leave each other alone for like two seconds it's-... it's crazy!"

Jimmy suddenly got angry, his fists clenching.

"We're 'obsessed' because we're best friends and you two are controlling pricks! We just wanna be able to hang out without you two breathing down our necks all the time!"

"What?! We're not trying to be controlling, we just wanna help you!"

"We're perfectly capable of helping ourselves! You two are acting like we're freaks of nature who can't control our 'inner evil' or some shit." his brother hissed. Gregory couldn't help but roll his eyes. Jimmy could be so dramatic sometimes.

"You barely can. You nearly stabbed mom the other night, don't you remember? The only reason you stopped was because of that salt line."

"Dude it was an accident! I would've never actually done it!"

"That's what they always say!"

"Who's "they"? You're 16, dipshit. Stop acting like you know everything!"

"I'm not saying I do! Stop putting words in my mouth!"

Jimmy just scowled, roughly pushing past him. Gavin followed. They were just about to leave when the Brit stopped, turning towards him.

"We'll be back by tomorrow afternoon. I'll keep him safe, don't worry." he told him. Gregory didn't even know what to say. The two started to walk away again when he reached out, grabbing his friend's arm.

"Wait. If you're really gonna go then I have something to give you. It's not safe out there."

Gavin frowned.

"What do you mean by that?"

"There are things out there beyond all of our understandings, ok? I can't really explain right now, but just trust that I know what I'm talking about. Johnny does too. Just-... wait here."

The two looked at each other, clearly confused. They both agreed to stay put, and Gregory ran upstairs. He grabbed an old nerf gun he had rigged up with special darts. The darts were made of some super janky silver wire that he stole from the art metals studio. He had soaked them in salt water, so they were fully purified. He quickly came back downstairs, handing it to Gavin. Jimmy looked very annoyed.

"A toy? You wanted to give us a toy? How the hell is that gonna protect us from whatever you're talking about?" he questioned.

"It just will. Trust me."

Jimmy thought for a moment before nodding, apparently deciding he was done arguing. Knowing there was nothing he could do to stop them from leaving, Gregory waved the teens goodbye. They both waved back. Once they were out of sight he closed the door, calling Johnny. The older teen answered immediately.

"How did it go? Are you ok?" he asked.

"I'm fine. They left."

"They left?"

"Yeah. Gavin told me they'd be back by tomorrow."

"Well where are they going?"

"I don't know. I gave them a gun just in case."

"... you gave them a gun?"

Gregory picked up on the tone of his voice and realized he made a mistake.

"It's ok it's just a nerf gun that I rigged up with some special darts. The darts are laced with silver and salt." he explained. He heard Johnny let out a sigh of relief.

"Thank god. Well I guess we'll just have to see how things go, right?"

"Right. Don't worry, I think it'll be ok."

Gregory didn't believe that at all, but he really didn't want his wolf of a friend to freak out. He knew there wasn't really much they could do to help their brothers anyways, at least not right now. All they could do was sit and wait.
