Chapter 47
"Oh god, we're screwed!" Jimmy whimpered, leaning against a nearby brick wall. Gavin just nodded silently, pushing a bit of hair out of his eyes. It was clear that he was just as nervous as Jimmy was. The two watched as their brother's truck passed by the entrance of the alley. Both of the teens were staring at them as they went past.
"They must be heading back to school. ... what do we do? We can't go back home can we?"
"What do you mean?"
"Well if we head home they'll be all mad at us and shit. I don't really want that, do you?"
Jimmy shook his head, thinking as hard as he could. He had no idea what to do. He was not in the mood for Gregory's passive aggressive stupidity.
"Well we don't have to go home, do we? Or maybe we can head back to my place and then leave again by the time they get out of school?" he suggested.
"Good idea. It looks like you might need to change your hand wrap soon anyways."
They both glanced down at his hand. He had to admit, the Brit was right. The gauze was a little dirty and a bit loose. It was starting to hurt again, but not as bad as earlier. The two quickly started to walk down the street, Jimmy shielding his eyes from the sun. It was actually a pretty nice day, but the current situation had him feeling tense. He was just glad to be with Gavin. The teen had always been such a great friend. Jimmy knew he could trust him. Lately he had actually begun to trust him more than he trusted his own brother. Gregory had just been so bossy lately, almost mean. He said he was just trying to help him, but Jimmy was pretty sure he was exaggerating. Jimmy was well aware that he had some issues, but he was pretty sure he was getting better, especially now that he was taking those weird pills Johnny gave him. He was 90% sure it was just drugs. It didn't take them long for them to get back to Jimmy's house. They went to the kitchen, grabbing their first aid kit.
"Hey Gav?"
"Yeah?"
"Can you help me?"
"Probably. What do you need?"
"I'll need you to help me wrap it up. I'm not really the best at medical stuff." Jimmy explained. Gavin agreed. The two moved to the sink, Jimmy taking off his old bandages. He carefully washed it, wincing at the way the water ran over his wounds. It stung just a bit. He quickly finished and dried it off, turning to Gavin. His friend looked a little nervous.
"Are you sure you're ok with me touching it? It looks like it still hurts." Gavin mumbled.
"Yeah, it's fine. I have a good pain tolerance."
Gavin very hesitantly did as he was told. Jimmy took a deep breath, watching. The Brit was being very careful, glancing into his eyes every once in a while to make sure he was ok. He couldn't help but grin, letting out a tiny giggle. Gavin eventually finished, securing it in place.
"There, all done. How does it feel?" he asked.
"Good. Thanks, Gav."
"You're welcome! ... why're you looking at me like that?"
"Because you were so gentle! It was kinda sweet~" Jimmy purred. Gavin rolled his eyes and got huffy, his cheeks turning red.
"Oh shut the hell up, twink. I'll be super mean next time."
"Sure you will. Anyways, do you wanna watch a movie or something? We still have a while until Johnny and Gregs get off school."
"Sure."
They sat on the couch, bringing some drinks and snacks with them. Once they got fully settled time seemed to fly. Jimmy had just started to get truly relaxed when his phone went off. The two sat up straight, a bit panicked. He paused the movie before pulling out his phone. His heart dropped. It was a text from Gregory. All he said was 'We're gonna have a talk when I get home'. Jimmy let out an angry growl, throwing his phone on the chair on the other side of the living room. He stood, beginning to pace. His friend joined him.
"I can't believe this shit! Who does he think he is?!"
"I don't know. I just can't believe they must distrust us so much! We're literally almost adults."
"I know! Man, they always act like they're so much better than us. It's like they think they're the good twins and-... and we're the bad twins." he muttered. Gavin nodded in agreement. Jimmy took off his glasses, cleaning them out of stress. The older teen came over to him, carefully patting him on the back. He looked a bit nervous.
"I-.. uhh... your eyes are doing some funky stuff. Again."
"What?"
Jimmy went upstairs to the bathroom, looking at himself in the mirror. He gasped. His eyes were now a bright red rather than their usual maroon. He turned to look at Gavin. He looked worried.
"Are you ok?"
"I-I'm fine. This is just what my eyes usually look like right before the voices start talking."
"... the voices?"
Jimmy realized what he said, his eyes growing huge. Gavin stared at him, his worry turning to genuine concern. He decided to come clean.
"I hear voices, Gav. They make me do bad things, and occasionally they make me lose consciousness all together. I think that's what happened with that kid in the bathroom. It was like I was possessed." he explained.
"How long have you been hearing them?" Gavin asked. Jimmy thought for a moment.
"Since I was 10 or so. They've gotten worse over the years though."
"Oh. ... I kind of wish you would've told me. I could've been helping you more this whole time, or trying at least."
"I just didn't know how you'd react. I'm sorry." Jimmy whispered. He looked away, ashamed. Gavin silently took his good hand into one of his own larger ones, letting out a tiny sigh.
"It's fine, Jimbo. I'm glad you're finally comfortable enough to tell me. We can work through this together, ok? Just like with everything else."
Jimmy nodded. They pulled each other into a gentle hug. He couldn't help but smile. He was happy to know that the Brit had his back, despite everything that had happened. He knew that with Gavin by his side everything was going to be ok.
