Chapter 46
Johnny was furious. He couldn't believe that their brothers would lie to them so nonchalantly. They lied straight to their faces. He wanted to express his anger more, but he was afraid that if he did he would start to turn again. He hadn't turned in a few days, and the moon was still as big and bright as ever. It would be another couple days yet before it went dark and he would be at least a little more safe. For now, he had to rely solely on his 'potions', as Gregory called them. He jumped when the younger teen let out a hoot.
"They're going into that diner!"
"Should we follow them inside?" Johnny asked. Gregory thought for a second before shaking his head.
"I don't think so. I don't wanna make a scene and/or cause them to become violent. Maybe we can sit in that café over there and chill while we wait for them to come out."
The American pointed to a small building that was just across the street from where their twins had disappeared. Johnny immediately pulled into the parking lot. He stepped out, walking around the side of the truck. He held out his hand for Gregory. His friend accepted the help, using it to stabilize himself as he hopped down. The two entered. The dim lighting and overall atmosphere really helped to calm Johnny's nerves, but he knew that a good cup of tea would really do wonders for him. He allowed Gregory to order first. As soon as they both finished they picked a booth in the corner of the café, right next to a big window. They could see the front of the diner perfectly. Johnny didn't like having to practically stalk his brother, but it seemed to be the only way. He figured that if he had no problem beating on him then he would have no trouble at all hurting some random innocent person on the street. His jaw still hurt when he bit down the wrong way. Johnny frowned when he noticed that Gregory was staring at him.
"... what's wrong?"
"You look super stressed. I don't like it."
"Well of course I'm stressed! I don't like that Gavin and Jimmy would just lie to us so shamelessly. I want to be able to trust them more than that, it's just so-... so disappointing!"
Gregory nodded.
"I feel the same way, but there's nothing we can do about it right now. We can talk to them about it later." he told him. Johnny honestly felt a little embarrassed by his sudden burst of emotions. Normally he would be the one having to calm Gregory down, not the other way around. Even in the other timeline he was always the calm one. He felt like a loser.
"You're right. I'm sorry."
"It's fine, man! I know that your whole werewolf thing is making you extra angry and shit. Besides, it's good to let it out every once in a while"
Johnny couldn't help but agree. After a few minutes he heard his name get called. He stood, going to pick up his food. He decided to pick up Gregory's food while he was up there. Johnny thanked the woman behind the counter before returning to his friend. He set his friends sandwich down in front of him before sliding back into his seat. He quickly sipped at his tea, enjoying the relief it brought him. It wasn't whiskey, but it was better than nothing.
"How's your food?" Johnny questioned.
"Good! How's the tea?"
"Excellent."
The two sat quietly for a while. Johnny allowed himself to relax, trying his best to just sit and enjoy his time with his friend. He knew there was nothing they could do at the moment, and that was ok. He gave Gregory a small smile when he noticed he was staring at him. His friend seemed to be spacing off, something that was quite typical. Gregory was always thinking about something. Johnny knew that recently he had been thinking a lot about reestablishing P.I.E. It was around this time in the other timeline when they had originally founded it. In all honesty, he was totally down for it. He really loved his job at P.I.E. Exploring cool abandoned places was one of his favorite things to do, although he didn't particularly enjoy the part where they actually got attacked by the entity they were trying to find. That was Jimmy's favorite, as it gave him an excuse to kill. This made him think.
"Hey Gregory?"
"Yeah?"
"So I know you've been thinking about starting P.I.E up again recently. If things go well with them, would you want Jimmy and Gavin to join?" Johnny asked. Gregory seemed surprised to hear this.
"I mean they can if they want. I guess I never really thought about it. I'm still used to it being just you and me. ... maybe they could bring something to the team that Spooker and Chris couldn't."
"What? Competence?"
Johnny grinned when Gregory let out a loud snort, choking on his drink. As soon as he recovered they both laughed.
"Holy shit, I wasn't expecting that from you! I'm impressed!" Gregory giggled. Johnny rolled his eyes.
"Well it's the truth, right? Besides, they aren't around to hear me say it. Don't get me wrong, I think they're both great guys, they're just a bit... 'unintelligent'."
"That's putting it nicely."
They both finished up their food and drinks quickly. As soon as they did they noticed their brothers leaving the restaurant across the street. Johnny's heart nearly jumped out of his chest when Gavin looked in their direction, his eyes growing huge. He saw his twin get Jimmy's attention, pointing towards them. Jimmy saw them and looked genuinely afraid. Gregory soon noticed this and immediately stood. Johnny followed, and the two went outside. Their brothers began to walk faster, turning down an alleyway about a block down the road. They exchanged a quick glance.
"What should we do? I don't want them to get hurt." Johnny huffed.
"I don't know. I would say we should follow them but we can't just leave your car here."
"Right. Maybe we should wait to talk to them after school."
"I guess so. I just really hope they don't get into trouble."
The two got into the truck, beginning their short journey back to school. Johnny just hoped that their brothers were spooked enough by their appearance that they decided head home. He knew there was nothing they could do for now.
