Chapter 45

(Hi everyone! Sorry for the inactivity, I actually just got my account back. Something weird happened with my password and I just now was able to fix it. I'm going to post this message on my other story too for people who don't read this one, so sorry if you see it twice.)

Gregory sighed as he sat down at the unusually vacant lunch table, looking around. Johnny always arrived late, and since both of their brothers were staying home that meant he would be totally alone for at least the first 10 minutes. That didn't seem like a lot, but to Gregory it felt like forever. He felt anxious, especially after what had happened the night before. He just couldn't get the shadow creature out of his head. What really struck him the most was the feeling that he got when he looked it in the eyes, or lack there of. Other than being startled, he wasn't afraid. Looking back, he actually felt more curious than anything. Gregory reached into his bag, grabbing a notebook and pencil. He began to sketch the creature, and had just really started to focus when someone spoke to him. He looked up, relieved to see that it was Johnny.

"Sorry I'm so late! What're you drawing?" his friend asked, giving him a curious smile.

"I'm just sketching the thing I saw last night."

Johnny looked, staring for a moment before nodding slowly.

"I see. It  seems pretty human to me."

"It was."

"Did it try to talk to you at all?" The Brit questioned. Gregory shook his head.

"No. It didn't even try to touch me, it just sat there. When I went for the bottle of holy water it stood, but otherwise it didn't move one bit. I don't think it wanted to hurt me. It honestly just seemed kinda sad. Longing, I guess."

The older teen looked both confused and concerned at the same time.

"Well it's good that it wasn't aggressive. I suppose I'm just worried that it might want something from you." Johnny sighed. Gregory frowned.

"Want something from me? Like what?"

"I'm not sure, but maybe it knows something you don't. You are half demon after all."

Johnny said the last part very quietly. They both knew that if anyone heard them they would immediately be deemed crazy just like before. Some things never changed, even if it was a separate timeline.

"I mean yeah. What could it possibly want from me though? I don't have any powers, and I'm not super strong like Jimmy is when he's freaking out. I just don't understand." Gregory huffed, closing the cover of his notebook. He glanced up at his friend. He looked very deep in thought. Gregory tucked his supplies into his bag, standing.

"What're you doing?" Johnny asked.

"Getting ready to go. We have open campus lunch today, remember?"

"Oh yeah! I completely forgot. We should probably get going."

The two made sure they had all of their things before making their way out to the school parking lot. Gregory glanced down at his phone. He couldn't help but feel uneasy. Jimmy was being incredibly quiet. This was their first time being apart in a long while, and he hadn't said a word. He wondered if he twin was up to something. Gregory just hoped that he wasn't getting into trouble. Just as he was about to ask Johnny what he wanted to eat, the older teen gasped. They had barely made it out of the parking lot before the Brit quickly pulled over.

"What's wrong?!"

"Look!"

Johnny pointed, and Gregory looked. As soon as he saw what Johnny was pointing to, he felt his heart drop into his stomach. Walking down the street was Jimmy, but he wasn't alone. He was Gavin. Despite agreeing to stay apart, there they were.

"What the hell?! They lied to us!" Gregory hissed. Johnny looked incredibly irritated.

"They did. I should've known they wouldn't listen to us. They've always been quite mischievous, especially Gavin."

"That's true. ...do you think we should follow them?"

"I'm really not sure. Do you really think that they'd do anything bad in broad daylight like this?" Johnny questioned. Gregory shrugged.

"I hope not. I would like to think that they're smarter than that."

"Right. I guess that we should just go get our food and maybe bring it up to them later. If they saw us watching them they would be more than angry."

Gregory just nodded. Needless to say, he was shocked. He knew he shouldn't be, but he still was. Just as Johnny said, the two had always been trouble makers. For as long as Gregory could remember, Jimmy had been purposely doing things he knew weren't right. It seemed to make him happy. Although he had only recently started hurting people, Gregory knew it was just the beginning. He just hoped it didn't get any worse.
