Chapter 4

It was the end of the day, and Jimmy was thankful for it. Ever since he saw all the spooky stuff in the kitchen, he wanted nothing more than to go back to bed. To dream of things like snowflakes and his favorite tea. But he knew that wasn't going to happen any time soon.

"Jimmy? It's time for art! Let's go!" Gregory squeaked, grabbing his hand. Jimmy gave him a little grin, allowing himself to be led to the art room. When Gregory told him that they might be painting flowers, he got so excited that it couldn't even be described by words. The two walked into the classroom, Jimmy letting out a squeal when he saw a picture of a daisy on the board. They sat down in their seats. Jimmy took a quick glance around him, becoming even more excited when he noticed all the different paints and brushes on the counter in the front of the room. He loved all the colors of the rainbow, even the 'girly' ones. Seeing all the greens and blues almost made him forget the supposedly imaginary pools of red he had seen earlier that day. He shuttered at the images flashing through his brain.

"Hey... are you listening?" the girl next to him asked loudly, causing him to jump. Jimmy nodded, hesitantly looking into her cold grey eyes. The girl frowned at him before she turned away, mumbling hurtful things under her breath. Jimmy let out a sigh, looking over at Gregory. He had an odd look in his eyes. Jimmy had a feeling that what happened to his brother was more than just a 'bad dream'. Maybe that weird cowboy guy was bothering him again? It wouldn't surprise Jimmy at all. That ghost was quite troublesome compared to other creatures they had run into before. The teachers announcement snapped him out of his thoughts.

"Alright! Now that you know what you're doing, you can go pick your colors and brushes!" he told them. Jimmy couldn't help but smile. He grabbed Gregory's hand, leading him up to the counter. He noticed a problem when they got there. One of the colors that he wanted was all the way in back! He growled, pulling himself up onto the counter. This earned him a few looks from the other students. Jimmy grabbed the bottle that he wanted, as well as a couple brushes.

"Anything you want?" Jimmy called down.

"Blue... and green! And a big brush!" Gregory called back. Jimmy frowned.

"Light, dark? What shades?"

"Umm... light blue and dark green!" Gregory told him. Jimmy let out a sigh, grabbing one other bottle and brush before jumping down. He hated being so short, and he assumed that Gregory probably did too. It wasn't easy being the size of a preschooler when you were actually in 5th grade. The two walked back to their seats. Jimmy handed Gregory his blue, smiling at the look on his face.

"Were they the right ones?" Jimmy asked. Gregory nodded quickly.

"Yes! Thank you!" Gregory chuckled, hugging him. He giggled happily. Gregory smelled like strawberries, just like momma. That made Jimmy wonder what he smelled like.

(35 minutes later)

He handed his painting to the teacher to protect it while it dried. He would hate to see his work ruined.

"This is lovely, Jimmy! Very good job!" he exclaimed, smiling. Jimmy nodded before quickly running back over to his twin. This time Gregory grabbed his hand first.

"Let's  go... h-home. I want to go home and play." Gregory told him quietly.

"Oh! What do you wanna play when we get there?" Jimmy asked.

"Umm... hide and seek?" he questioned. Jimmy nodded. He was led out of the classroom and to the bus. They sat in the same seat as they did in the morning. All they had to do now was wait.
