Chapter 39
Jimmy had just crawled under his covers when he heard a knock on the door. Letting out a frustrated huff, he returned his glasses to his face before answering.
"Come in."
He watched as his twin entered, a timid yet kind smile on his face.
"Hey. I just wanted to let you know that dinner's here. We'll save you some if you don't feel like eating right now." Gregory told him. Jimmy thought for a moment.
"... I'll be down in a minute."
Gregory nodded, leaving him alone. He sat up, brushing his hair out of his eyes. Even though his head was incredibly sore, his mind was silent. There wasn't a voice to be heard. Despite all this, he still felt like a total monster. Jimmy still couldn't believe that he attacked his own mom. For some reason he just couldn't control himself. Even now he could feel the anger bubbling inside him for what seemed like no reason at all. Jimmy took a deep breath, practically forcing himself to leave the bedroom. He slowly shuffled down the stairs, getting a whiff of pizza. Only then did he notice the gnawing pain in his stomach. He hadn't had anything to eat since 6 that morning. Entering the kitchen, he was met by his mom.
"Hi, honey! How're you feeling?" she asked, handing him a plate.
"I'm fine. Are-... are you ok?"
"I'm doing alright. ... I just want you to know that I'm holding nothing against you, ok? I just wish you would've told me that you were having problems before it got to this point."
Jimmy agreed, shame filling his heart. He still couldn't believe what he had done.
"I know. I'm really sorry, mama."
The woman reached forward, pulling him into a firm hug. Jimmy gingerly hugged her back, afraid that he might snap and try to hurt her again at any minute. He knew that since he had recently taken the pills Johnny made he probably wouldn't, but there was always a small possibility. They eventually pulled away from each other, the adult giving him a tiny pat .
"It's ok, honey. Now, go ahead and grab your food. Gregory is in the living room if you wanna sit with him."
Jimmy nodded, taking a few slices before joining his twin. Gregory seemed very glad to see him. He knew that his brother probably wasn't expecting him to come down at all. The teen sat very close to him. His energy was very comforting.
"Do you wanna watch tv?"
"Sure... but first I wanna know what you and Johnny were talking about earlier."
Gregory frowned.
"We weren't talking about much, mostly about Gavin."
"What about him? I heard you ask Johnny about how to tell me something. What do you want to tell me?"
Gregory looked nervous.
"It's just-... it's just that Johnny and I think the reason Gavin lost control is because you did. Seeing you all violent and bloody triggered something in him. We think that you and Gavin should stop being around each other for a while." he explained. Jimmy felt his blood run cold. He couldn't believe what his brother had just said. Everyone knew that Gavin was his best friend, so hearing this was genuinely heart breaking. Jimmy forced himself to stay as calm as he could.
"There must be some way that we can fix this without forcing Gavin and I to stay apart, right?"
"I don't know, but I think it would be best to stay away from him for now. It won't be forever, ok?" Gregory questioned. Jimmy let out a little huff, deciding not to argue with him. Instead he stood, taking his food upstairs with him. Closing the door behind him, he pulled out his phone, immediately calling Gavin. The older teen soon answered.
"Hello?"
"Hey. Gregory just told me him and Johnny's plan. Have you heard?"
"They one where they want us to stay apart? Yeah, I've heard."
"And what do you think?"
"I think it's bullshit, and that there has to be some other way!" Gavin growled.
"I'm glad we're in agreement! We have to do something about this, but I'm not sure what. I don't want to make anyone upset."
His friend went silent for a moment. He could practically hear the gears turning in the Brits head through the phone.
"... we should meet secretly."
"Good idea! Do you wanna meet somewhere tonight?" Jimmy asked.
"Sure. How does the park sound around?"
"Great! I'll meet you there around midnight."
With that, they hung up. Jimmy finished his food before returning the living room where Gregory was still sitting. He looked extremely worried, and his eyes were huge.
"Are you ok?! Listen, I'm really sorry if I upset you. I know you and Gavin care about each other a lot."
"You're making it sound so much gayer than it is. ... but it's fine. I understand."
Gregory grinned and gave him a quick hug before turning back to the tv. Jimmy couldn't help but smile. He couldn't wait until later.
