Chapter 38

Johnny haphazardly parked his car, quickly hoping out to meet Gregory, who was already standing on the front stoop. He was holding himself tight, and was clearly upset.

"Gregory? Are you ok?" he asked. The younger teen just shrugged, and without a word hugged him tight. Johnny ignored the soreness he felt and hugged him back. He could feel the small teens body start to quiver. He soon heard quiet sniffling. After a couple minutes of pure hugging the two pulled away from each other. Gregory wiped his eyes, taking a deep breath.

"I-... I'm just so overwhelmed, Johnny. I don't know what to do."

"Well if it makes you feel any better, I am too... here, lets talk inside."

"O-ok."

Johnny led Gregory inside, walking him to the couch. As soon as they entered the house he could feel the tension. Glancing into the kitchen, he made accidental eye contact with Mrs. Casket. Her face was filled with anxiety. She gave him a tiny polite smile. Johnny returned it before turning his attention back to his friend.

"Now, please explain to me exactly what happened."

Gregory nodded, taking a deep breath.

"Ok... so after you left Jimmy showed up. He got in a fight with mama, and after a bit he sort of just calmed down on his own. After he went upstairs is when she told me about the whole demon thing." he explained. Johnny thought for a moment.

"And you said that your dad was a demon?"

"According to her, yeah."

Gregory stood, handing him one of the pictures from mantel. He stared at it. He had never really looked at the picture before other than the occasional glance. Looking at it now, he could tell there was a heavy resemblance between the adult and the twins.

"You two look just like him." Johnny muttered.

"I know. I think Jimmy looks a little more like him though. He has his eyes."

Johnny couldn't help but agree. The man had a naturally intimidating look in his dark eyes, just like the younger teen. He was about to say something when he noticed someone peeking from around the corner. It was Jimmy. His eyes were huge, but thankfully not red. He disappeared for moment before returning, joining them in the living room.

"You look really rough... here."

Jimmy handed him an ice pack. Johnny gladly accepted it, holding it against his jaw.

"Thank you. ... how are you doing?"

"I'm ok. Those pills you made worked really well. I haven't heard the voices since I took them." he mumbled. Johnny couldn't help but grin.

"That's great! I'm glad they worked for you."

Jimmy just gave him a tiny pat on the back before leaving. The two turned back to each other.

"I really don't know how you do it. He's doing so much better than he was earlier. The color's even coming back to his face."

"It's just a mix of simple herbs. ... I wonder if I can used them on Gavin too."

Gregory frowned.

"Why? What's wrong with him?"

"When mother and I picked up Gavin from the police station, I heard him tell mother that he didn't mean it. He didn't even remember attacking me, said that the last thing he remembered was fighting in the bathroom. ... I think that he has the same type of issue as Jimmy, and that Jimmy triggers his mental switch." Johnny explained. Gregory just stared at him. It was clear that the American was upset by this information.

"We have to keep them away from each other then, don't we?"

"That's what I told Gavin, yes. He really wasn't happy about it."

"I bet. Jimmy won't be happy either. Those two are inseparable!"

"I know! Sometimes I even hear Gavin talking to him on the phone until 3am! If I didn't know any better, I would think that they were dating or something." Johnny chuckled. Gregory laughed, causing his spirits to instantly be lifted. He had always loved his friend's laugh. It was just so innocent, despite the fact that he just so happened to be a demon.

"You're not wrong! ... but what should I tell Jimmy? He's already having a hard time mentally right now, and not being able to be with Gavin will make him really upset." Gregory whispered, growing serious again.

"I'm not sure. Maybe we can slowly try to separate them, keep them from seeing each other? Lie and say they're busy or something?"

The smaller teen nodded.

"Good idea. We should start on Monday."

"Right.  ... I should probably head home soon. Your mother seems is pretty upset right now."

Glancing over, he made eye contact with the woman yet again. She looked really nervous. Gregory agreed, and they stood. The two shared one last hug before Johnny got back in his truck. He had a feeling that tonight was going to be rough. If there was one thing he was certain about, it was that he had to make more pills for Jimmy before it was too late.
