Chapter 3
It was time to go to school. Gregory had been dreading this all morning long. He never really enjoyed school. The only classes he really liked were art and maybe gym, depending on the unit.
"Come on Gregory! We're gonna be late!" Jimmy exclaimed, quickly hugging their mom before stepping out onto the porch. He let out a sigh, pulling on his backpack. Gregory waved to his mom as he passed, quickly joining his brother outside. The two began to walk to the bus stop, linking hands. Mom always said that they should hold hands when they were out in public so that they didn't lose each other. They stopped and waited, making small talk as they did so.
"...did we have homework last night?" Gregory asked. Jimmy just shrugged, smiling.
"I don't know. We usually don't do it anyways!" Jimmy told him. Gregory just nodded slowly. That was one thing he didn't remember up until now. He squeezed Jimmy's hand gently, enjoying its warmth.
"Maybe we should start doing our homework? That would make mom happy." Gregory suggested.
"Would it really?" he questioned, staring at him with large eyes. Gregory smiled a bit and nodded.
"Yep! For real!" Gregory exclaimed, laughing at the confused look on his twins face.
"I guess if it'll make momma happy..." Jimmy mumbled. He seemed to be in deep thought. That's when they he heard the loud rumbling of the bus coming down the street. The two moved to the curb, watching as the bus screeched to a stop in front of them. Gregory stepped on first, leading his brother to one of the empty seats. The two cuddled up against each other to protect themselves from the crisp morning air... as well as the judging glances of the other students.
(15 minutes later)
The two stepped off of the bus, quickly walking through the schools main doors. Their bus had actually been late this day, so they went straight to their classroom. Gregory put his backpack under his desk. His first subject of the day was English, which he hated. Gregory loved hearing the stories, he just hated trying to actually read them. It made it harder to imagine the setting when he actually had to focus on the words, which was already difficult for him.
"Twins?" he heard the teacher call.
"Here!" they called out in unison. After that, no one really talked. It was oddly quiet. The only
sounds were the tapping of pencils and shuffling of feet.
"Hey... wanna doodle with me?" Jimmy whispered, gently poking him to get attention. Gregory nodded, reaching out. He drew a lopsided circle on the paper. Jimmy added to it. That was pretty much how the 'game' worked. It ended up being a cat with an alien hand on its butt. Gregory thought it was pretty funny. That was, until the teacher came over. Jimmy quickly hid the drawing under his worksheet.
"Have you two been doing your work?" she asked. The two glanced at each other.
"N-no... I didn't. Jimmy might've though." Gregory mumbled, looking over at his brother hopefully. Jimmy just shook his head slowly. The teacher frowned.
"I might need to contact your mother if this continues, boys. The point of school is to learn, not screw around." she lectured. Gregory looked over, jumping when he saw his brothers eyes flash red. It was clear that he was very annoyed. Gregory knew that if he didn't do something, things could get out of hand pretty quick.
"It's ok! I'm sure she doesn't mean to be rude!" Gregory told him quietly.
"I know. I guess I'm just feeling a bit irr-... irrita-? ....annoyed." Jimmy sighed. Gregory nodded slowly. It was understandable, to say the least.
"I'm just looking forward to art class! I heard that we're painting flowers!" Gregory told him, nudging his arm gently. Jimmy's eyes lit up.
"Really?! That's awesome!" Jimmy squealed. Gregory smiled. He knew how much his brother loved flowers. Especially roses. He reached over, pulling Jimmy into a hug. Gregory could practically feel the excitement radiating off of the younger twin. It was contagious. Soon the two were both just sitting there, giggling. It was gonna be a long day.
