Chapter 28
Gavin stared at his food, not really hungry after what he had seen earlier that afternoon. Seeing Johnny mid transformation was one of the most disturbing things he had ever seen. Like, ever. He honestly hated seeing his brother in so much pain. Their mother soon noticed the tension, a frown on her face.
"What's going on? Why are you two so quiet?" she asked, glancing at the both of them. Johnny spoke up, trying his best to sound as normal as possible.
"There's nothing going on, mother. Why do you ask?"
"Something just feels off, dear. That, and you two aren't eating nearly as much or as fast as you usually do. If something did happen, please just tell me. I won't be mad!"
The twins exchanged a look, silently agreeing right then and there not to tell the woman about what had gone down. They both knew that she would have them put on house arrest for the rest of their lives. Gavin turned towards her.
"Nothing happened, mum. I promise." he sighed. She just nodded slowly, taking a bite of her food. Gavin forced himself to do the same. Oddly enough, it happened to be one of his favorite meals. His hunger soon returned, and he quickly cleaned his plate. Gavin put his dishes away, heading up to his room. As soon as he got in the door, he flopped onto his bed. He jumped when he heard a knock on his door frame. He sat up, a bit surprised to see Johnny.
"Hey... could I come in?"
"... sure."
His brother walked in, sitting on the bed next to him. He had a look of guilt in his tired blue eyes.
"Listen Gavin, I-... I'm sorry that you had to see me in such an awful state earlier. Just know that I don't find that acceptable at all, and I will try as hard as I can to prevent that from happening again." Johnny told him. Gavin frowned a bit, moving forward.
"You don't have to apologize. I know that you can't control it."
"I know... I-I just..."
Gavin stopped him, pulling him into a firm hug. He held his twin close, trying his best to give off a sort of comforting vibe. It seemed to work, and Johnny became less tense. The two pulled away, and Gavin could see that his fellow Brit had a weird look in his eyes. Knowing, yet confused.
"It's ok, Johnny. Really. Just let me know next time you're having a problem, and I'll do what I can to help."
Johnny nodded, smiling.
"Alright. That goes for you as well, you know. After what happened, I'm sure having someone to talk to would help you a bunch."
With that, his brother stood, exiting the room. Gavin sighed, grabbing a container that he had under his bed. In it were some of his favorite cookies that his mother said he wasn't allowed to have because she was allergic to some of the ingredients. To circumvent this, he used some of his own money to buy some from himself. He grabbed one, scooting to the end of his bed so that he could play video games. As soon as Gavin got online, he saw that Jimmy was already on. He quickly got in a call with him.
"Hey Jimbo! What's up?"
"Just playing video games... obviously."
Gavin chuckled quietly.
"Well yeah. Do you wanna play a few rounds with me?" he asked.
"Sure thing! You can pick what we play."
"Ok."
He quickly selected a game, and they began to play. There were a couple times when he wondered just how well Jimmy could see his own screen. He probably couldn't see a thing, depending on just how far he was sitting from the tv. Gavin sighed. He still felt pretty bad about not being able to find the younger teens glasses. He also felt horrible for that poor girl they found. Needless to say, he would never be able to get that image out of his mind. Sometimes, when Gavin closed his eyes, he saw her. Pushing his thoughts aside, the two ended up playing for hours. They didn't stop until both of their mothers came in and told them to go to bed. Knowing they had school the next day, they said their goodnights. As soon as Gavin went offline, he felt a wave of exhaustion wash over him. He just had a feeling that something was going to happen. Of course, he always had that feeling. Maybe this time it was for real.
