Chapter 23
Gavin sighed after Jimmy ended the call, shaking his head. He had a feeling that something would go wrong today, he just hoped that this wasn't it. His mom had just got done yelling at him hours before, and if Mrs.Casket told her again, he would be in even bigger trouble.
"Well I guess we should get going..." Jimmy muttered.
"I suppose... we can take our time though, can't we?"
"Yeah. I just wish we could stay longer."
Gavin chuckled.
"Aww are you having fun, Jimbo?"
The younger teen nodded, and Gavin smiled. He was glad that his friend was having fun.
"I really wanna explore some more... could we look around upstairs before we head out? Pleaseee?"
Gavin was about to say no, but was stopped by the look on Jimmy's face. It gave him butterflies in his stomach.
"F-fine! Fine. Just stop looking at me with those beady little eyes of yours."
Jimmy just smiled, grabbing his hand. Gavin allowed himself to be led up the old stairs and to the top floor. There were four doors, each of them a different color. He was instantly intrigued, now taking the lead. He entered the first door on his left, which was a faded blue. Gavin was a bit nervous, so he pushed it open with his foot instead of his hand. In the room was a small bed and night stand, both of them in the corner of the room. He assumed they had slid over there from when the house had sort of fallen down the steep slope that they were in now.
"Wow... this room reminds me of my grandmas house!"
"Oh? And why is that?"
"I... I don't know. I guess it's because all the stuff in here is crusty dusty. ... not to say that my grandma is crusty! Oh man, please don't tell her I said that!" Jimmy squeaked. Gavin laughed.
"Chill out, man! I promise I won't tell. Besides, I would get my ass kicked if I said anything bad about my grandmother. ... anything at all."
The two left the room, exploring the next room. It was quite similar to the previous one. In fact, they were all pretty much the same. This disappointed Gavin. They only had one more room to go when his phone began to ring. He looked down, frowning. It was Johnny. Again.
"Yeah, yeah we're on our way!" he hissed.
"Well hurry up! Mrs. Casket won't stop texting Gregory, and it's quite annoying! Where are you guys anyways? We've been walking in the direction you said for a long time." Johnny told him.
"Well can you see a ditch?"
A moment of silence passed.
"Yes."
"Well that's where we are! Come towards it. We'll meet you there."
"Alright." Johnny sighed. Through the speaker he could hear quiet crunching, as well as his two fellow teens muttering to each other with frustration before he hung up. Gavin frowned, looking up at his friend.
"We should probably head out now. They sound pretty pissed off."
"Fine. But we need to come here again sometime, ok?" Jimmy questioned. He nodded.
"Of course! Now come on!" Gavin exclaimed. The two began to walk down the stairs, the wood creaking beneath their feet. Gavin was scared that his weight would break it. It wasn't that he was chubby, he was just a big guy. He jumped when Jimmy let out a sudden gasp, followed by a quiet clank and a slew of swears. Gavin turned quickly, his eyes big.
"Shit! I-I dropped my glasses!"
"Do you think you know where they went?"
"What the-! Of course I don't know, Gavin! I can't see anything like 3 feet past my face!" Jimmy growled, glaring up at him. Gavin rolled his eyes at his sudden aggression.
"Well I don't see them anywhere around here... maybe they fell down to the stairs below us?"
"Maybe. Greg and Johnny will be here in a few minutes, so we have to get them quick!"
The two slowly walked the rest of the way down the stairs, Gavin guiding the visually impaired American the whole way. His eyes quickly scanned the area, and much to his dismay, he saw nothing.
"I don't see them."
Jimmy looked extremely upset.
"Oh god, mama is gonna kill me..." he whimpered. Gavin sighed, wrapping his arm around the teens small shoulders. He ran his hand through his soft brown hair, trying his best to comfort him.
"We still have a bit of time to look around. Maybe they fell all the way down?"
"I guess they could've. Can you look? Please?"
"Of course, but you're coming with me!"
Jimmy nodded, and they shuffled their way to the basement. Gavin looked around. The glasses were nowhere to be found. What he did notice, however, was an awful stench. Jimmy seemed to notice this as well, but he just made a face. Gavin pulled out his phone, turning on the flashlight. What he saw shocked him. Disgusted him. He felt like he was going to pass out. There, on the floor in front of them, was a dead body.
