Chapter 21
Jimmy sighed as he sat down at the kitchen table. He took a bite of his sandwich, trying to ignore his pounding headache. Normally he would ask his mom for some pain killers, but she wasn't there. Either was Gregory. The two had gone to the store, and Jimmy had opted to stay home. What he really wanted was some peace and quiet. He just really hadn't been the same since last night. For some reason, seeing Johnny bleed was... exhilarating. Jimmy was about to take a second bite when he heard his phone ringing from upstairs. He stood, quickly running up to his room where the device was resting on the nightstand.
"Hello?"
He recognized the voice he heard. It was Gavin.
"Hey Jimmy. Just calling to check in on you." the Brit told him.
"That's cool! I'm fine, I just have a bit of a headache. So... how did you get my number?"
"Johnny gave it to me. I hope that's alright."
"That's ok. I was planning on giving it to you anyways." Jimmy sighed. The two continued to talk for a while until Gavin suggested something.
"Hey, you should meet me at the park! You know, that one near the woods. I can give you some ibuprofen, and then there's a super cool place I want to show you!"
Jimmy thought about it for a moment. He was feeling a bit lonely, and his headache wasn't too bad. The teen felt a smile creep onto his face.
"Sounds good! I'll be there soon!" Jimmy exclaimed. With that, he hung up the phone. He quickly finished his food, slipping on his shoes and grabbing a few items before walking out the door. The park Gavin was talking about was about 5 minutes away from his place, and 6 away from the Brit's. Jimmy took a deep breath, enjoying the fresh air. It was kind of stuffy in his house, which was kind of weird considering that there was a giant hole in the living room wall. The walk went pretty quick, and Gavin wasn't there yet, so he sat on a nearby bench. Jimmy scrolled through his phone for a while, squeaking when he felt a hand on his shoulder.
"S-Sorry! I didn't mean to scare you!"
"You nearly gave me a heart attack! Jeez... how were you walking so quiet anyways?"
The older teen shrugged.
"Magic, I guess."
Jimmy just rolled his eyes, standing up.
"Ok ok, show me what you were talking about!" he ordered. Gavin nodded.
"Fine. Take these."
Gavin handed him a couple pills, and with some water from the nearby fountain, Jimmy took them. The Brit then began to lead him through the park and eventually to the woods. He followed quickly, knowing that these woods weren't dangerous. He had been exploring them ever since he was a little kid. Jimmy looked up at Gavin. The older teen had a look of pure excitement in his eyes. It was actually kind of cute.
"So, where are we going?" Jimmy asked.
"There's an old abandoned building in a big ravine I found a few days ago. I thought that you might like to take a look at it with me." Gavin told him. He smiled.
"That sounds awesome!"
"It is! I was pretty excited when I found it!"
"... why were you out here anyways?" he questioned.
"I needed some alone time, so I went on a walk." Gavin told him, shrugging. Jimmy nodded. The two continued to walk for a while until they reached the edge of a steep hill. The area was glowing with a greenish yellow light. Jimmy was halfway expecting to see a fairy or two, and was actually a bit disappointed when he didn't. He was less disappointed when instead, at the very bottom of that hill, he saw a small house, just as Gavin said there would be.
"Dang man, it really is all the way down there!" Jimmy exclaimed, taking a glance at his tall friend.
"Yeah it is! ... I think we should explore."
Jimmy thought for a moment.
"How would we get out of there?"
Gavin looked.
"I think I could probably get us out of there pretty easily. Come on, Jimbo! I'll even hold your hand~" The Brit chuckled. Jimmy blushed, deciding to take the offer. He knew that he would probably slip and fall if he didn't. Gavin seemed surprised by this, and his cheeks turned light pink. The two made their way down the slope, trying not to slip on the fallen leaves and other tangled vegetation as they did. Eventually, they made it to a window. The glass itself had been broken a long time ago. Gavin climbed through, turning.
"Do you need help with this, too?"
Jimmy's face quickly heated up.
"Do I need-... heck no! I'm a whole 16 years old! I can take care of myself." he hissed. Gavin just laughed, stepping out of Jimmy's way. He crawled over the window sill and into the dust covered room. He looked around. The floor and walls were damaged, but not old. Same with the staircase, which led both up and down. After a bit more exploring, Jimmy returned to his friends side, feeling a bit creeped out. He definitely wouldn't want to be alone in a place like this.
