(REVISED)Chapter 3- Partners and Friends

Third person POV

"Hah~... I don't know much about the 6th ward~..." Yuki exited the cab after paying and stepped out with a sigh. She ran her hand through her hair and whistled when she viewed the building.

'I suppose for now I can look into the report details and gather information from the investigators here before going out to the field...' Yuki stepped into the building with a pit of a heavy sensation in her chest at the thought of it. She showed her ID and was given an escort as her arrival was expected.

"I was told that you were assigned to this case just yesterday. It's quite sudden, isn't it?"The investigator turned to as they walked into an elevator.

"It was." Yuki shrugged her shoulders and unknowingly grinned. "But it is what it is. Especially in this field of work. Anything can happen."

"I have already taken out files regarding the case and placed them into a temporary workroom for you. There are only a couple of reports on the recent events of your case, but in total, there should be plenty for you to look into."

"I understand. Anything that I can get will be helpful. Thank you for taking the extra effort in finding all of the files." Yuki lightly smiled.

The elevator door opened to the 4th floor. Yuki followed the investigator out of the door and down the halls. They eventually made their way to a room, where he opened it for her. Once they were inside the room, Yuki spotted a pile of files and folders on the large desk.

"I could help fill you in on any details and try to answer any questions you come across."

"Thank you."

"Ah, one more thing." The investigator walked over to the desk and held out a small box to Yuki. "This belonged to Senior Investigator Daiki Fuse."

Yuki took the box into her hands and opened the lid. With a small gasp, she hesitantly picked up the shiny and clear brooch. It had a peculiar glow to it, which made the clear crystal appear silver.

"Thank you..." Yuki said more solemnly and placed the small box into her pocket.

-----

Hours had passed. It was no longer morning and was now just past one o'clock. The investigator who was just with her moments ago had left due to being called upon by a superior.

'It's nearly 5 o'clock...' Yuki sighed and planted her chin onto the table. 'I feel so sleepy~...' Yuki closed her eyes and let out another sigh.

"I hope Ken is doing alright... I had to leave so suddenly..." Yuki groaned and slowly lift her head. She slapped her cheeks and puffed out her chest.

"Poweeer through~!" Yuki threw her fists into the air and puffed out her cheeks, trying to gather a source of energy to persevere through.

*Creak*

"Good afternoon~."

"Ah?" Yuki froze in place and wheeled her chair to turn towards the door.

"Yu-Kaneki-san..." The young man's shocked expression consumed his face. He cleared his throat and regain his composure.

"Miss Kaneki, these two will be joining you in your investigation and vice versa." The investigator from before appeared from behind the two.

"Ah! Seriously~?" Yuki's face lit up with a huge smile. She stood up and bowed. "It has been a while Senior Investigator Madi-san and Rank 1 Investigator Koutarou Amon." Yuki straightened and raised her tone in a knowing manner when identifying the younger man's name.

"It has been quite some time indeed." Mado chuckled. "I see that you're already looking into the investigation." His eyes traveled towards the table.

"Yes. I've been looking into the details for information, clues, and connections. I can fill you in on some details and address how our cases may have crossed paths." Yuki nodded her head and swung her hands behind her and intertwining them.

"Please do." Mado nodded his head and walked towards the large desk. "Amon-kun, don't just stand there like that." Mado's tone had a hint of laughter.

"Yes..." He nodded his head and seated himself.

"I'll leave the three of you be. I have to get back to my case."

"Alright! Thank you for your help!" Yuki friendly smiled and waved goodbye. Immediately after she whipped her head at Amon and glared at him.

"We have plenty to discuss after~!" Yuki sang with a sweet smile, but the aura around her contrasted her innocent smile.

Mado chuckled along the side, intercepting the tension with his enthusiastic and excellent work ethic.

"We found Jason's tool when investigating at a scene." Mado pulled out a plastic evidence bag with the content of a plier in dried blood.

"Disgusting..." Yuki wrinkled her nose and pursed her lips. Amon sweatdropped at Yuki's childish like reaction.

"We found this during our investigation of Binge Eater and Jason. We received word that Jason was last seen in the 6th ward." Amon briefly explained.

"Yeah... The last time he was mentioned in the 6th ward was when Senior Investigator Daiki Fuse reported it before he was killed." Yuki rubbed her temple and grimaced.

"Ah, my condolences..." Amon frowned, knowing that the recent death would still be sensitive for the girl. His fist tightened, his emotions pricked at due to hearing upon an unfortunate death.

"I was given this case yesterday, but I can gather the theory that Jason is here in the 6th ward to meet with suspect 696, who is a doctor. I don't know the exact reason, but I have a feeling there are no coincidences from piecing past records and reports."

"I believe he is here for these." Mado chuckled and directed towards the pliers.

"The pliers?" Yuki raised a brow.

"Yes. Perhaps do you know the location of this doctor?" Mado hummed.

"There are a couple of suspected locations. Three to be exact." Yuki grabbed a map she had printed out and analyzed. Three red circles, not too far in distance between one another showed positive signs of a fast taken lead.

"I suggest we depart in an hour." Mado stated and stood up from his seat.

"Hm, I understand." Amon hesitated, surprised at the very hasty time, but he shook it off knowing and trusting Mado's instincts.

"It's my intuition that today is the day." Mado tapped his forehead twice and stepped a foot out of the door. "I'll be back." He shut the door behind himself as he left.

"His intuitions are remarkable yet stunningly ambiguous." Amon commented, as if needing to clarify it to Yuki.

"You know what else is remarkable?" Yuki laughed, making Amon turn his head towards her. "Calling me Miss Kaneki, you little sh**!" Yuki folded up the map and leaned over the desk. She delivered a few whacks on top of Amon's head.

"O-oi! What are you doing?!" Amon backed away and jumped up from his seat.

"Taking out my anger!" Yuki puffed out her cheek and crossed her arms. "Since when did we revert to formal names?! Yuki~! Yuki! Calling me 'Miss' makes me sounds old!" Yuki scoffed, a gangster-like scowl replacing her elegant features.

"Mado-san called you that." Amon scoffed, flabbergasted, and at a loss of words.

"That's an exception! When a young man calls me Miss Kaneki it gives the impression that I'm an old lady! Especially since you're good looking other women will think I'm some oldie!" Kaneki whipped her hair back.

"That doesn't make sense...!" Amon sighed and sat back down. He ran his hand down his face.

"Men." Yuki blurted out and covered her mouth with her hand. She looked off to the side with a scoff when he whipped his head at her with an irritated glare.

"Sigh... You really haven't changed at all." Amon rubbed his temples.

"You have. Your hair has grown out quite a lot. It covers your big forehead~!" Yuki snickered behind her hand. Amon's vein on his forehead popped.

"Seriously..." He sighed.

"Just to be clear~, I will refer to you as Kou-chan or Kou outside of office hours and will call you Koutarou otherwise!" Yuki clapped her hands. "I expect you to call me Yuki at the very least~!"

"I understand..." Amon closed his eyes and nodded his head, knowing that he won't be able to refute it. He let out another long sigh and looked up. "I heard you were on break for recovery. Are you feeling alright now?"

"Oho~. The kind Kou-chan~!" Yuki pursed her lips and teared up teasingly.

"Irk..." Amon paled and sweatdropped.

"Joking, joking~!" Yuki waved her hand and rested her chin onto her palm. "Hm~, I've fully recovered. It was a stupid injury from a careless mistake. My quinque broke, I fought with a broken weapon, and miraculously survived." Yuki groaned and ran her hand through her hair, but stopped it midway.

"... Have you visited your mentor's grave yet?"

"No. I came back yesterday, got a case yesterday, and here I am." Yuki hummed and closed her eyes. "His grave is in the 20th ward where his family lives. If I have the time when we get back I'll be able to visit..."

"I see..." Amon looked down onto his ground, his clenched fists resting on his knees.

"Koutaru. I don't want to make a careless mistake again. I don't want to go mad if I end up seeing Jason's face. You've got a good hit. Punch some sense into me if I go bonkers!" Yuki flipped up a thumbs up at Amon with a serious yet deadpan expression.

"You... I can't understand you." Amon gulped. "Sigh... I understand."

"Thank you..." Yuki gently smiled. "Though I wished you texted me back more often. I was quite hurt that my fellow friend busied himself away from calling back and replying." Yuki pouted and furrowed her brows.

"I'll make it up to you..." Amon sweatdropped.

"Buy me ice cream, and it will be settled!"

"Deal." Amon shortly sighed, breaking out into a small grin.
