Chapter 10- Where's Onii-chan...

Third person POV
*creak*.....*click*

"KEN-NIIII! IM HOME! DID YOU MISS ME!?....." Shouting out in excitement and expectation, Yuki held hope in her eyes. She stayed by the door for a minute more and her bright smile dropped to a frown of sorrow. Her eyes dulled and her head lowered.

"...I'm home...I'm finally home...Ken..." With knees sagging in to weep to the ground, tears shapes like diamonds fell onto the floor of the lonely apartment. Yuki tucked in her knees and stayed a few feet away from the door as she still held the remaining tears.

*tick took tick tock*

An hour had passed since Yuki had arrived and waited for Kaneki. She was starting to lose hope of him coming soon. It was already 10 o'clock which was really late considering the ghouls.

The only comfort she had was the sound of the music flowing into her mind and heart. The headphones were closing in on her ears as they wanted to surround her world with a melody of sorrow.

'I hope Ken's safe right now... It's getting late... I hope he doesn't feel faulted... He shouldn't be at the library... Although he reads when he's hurt, I have this feeling that he wouldn't be at the library... Maybe I should go to where this all started... Maybe Ken will be there...'

Standing up, Yuki quickly wiped away her stray tears in frustration. She immediately dashed to her room and pulled off the headphones. Taking a black backpack decorated with buttons she had received from Hide and Kaneki, she removed them to make the bag less noisy and started preparing herself.

'I should bring a flashlight just in case it gets too dark... I'll bring a small can of pepper spray and my pocket knife... A small towel... My mini first aid kit... My phone and I need to get a granola bar just in case I get hungry.'

Yuki quickly tied her hair up into a high ponytail and placed on a plain black cap. She changed into some warm and comfy athletic wear and placed on her more comfortable running shoes. Her whole attire would camouflage into the night's dark sky.

Taking her bag, she walked into the kitchen and took a couple of granola bars in case she finds Kankei starving. She took an orange from the fridge and threw the skin away in the trash until something shiny caught her eye. Looking more at the object, Yuki gasped and carefully pulled out the object.

"... Why is this kitchen knife here?... Why is it so twisted and broken?... Did Ken do this?..... Did I really make him feel at fault?...."

Feeling the guilt wash over her, Yuki held in her tears and left the knife on the counter. She took her set of keys and placed it into the front pockets of her backpack. Yuki quickly locked the door and rushed down the stairs. She knew that it was dangerous to be going out in the dark alone when she had just recovered, but her feelings were too strong to let Kankei go missing for too long.

"... Please be safe Ken..." Running down the street, her hair bounced and flew along with the wind with her head held high in hope.

-----
In the meantime, Kaneki is underground Anteiku, training with Touka and Yomo...
"Ugh!.... Ow... I don't think I'm getting any better..." Panting and clutching onto his left arm, Kaneki was drained of his energy.

"Tch! You look like a damn newborn fawn!" The loud shouts of annoyance was coming from Touka and her angry glares.

*punch...*

Flying away within ten feet from Touka, Kaneki coughed harshly as he yearned for his lost breath. He slowly sat up and held onto his aching stomach from the hard cold punch.

"Tch. You need to build up some muscles you-"

*cough cough*... *blood splatter*

Touka gulped nervously and turned her head to her left and sighed. "... We'll stop for today. We'll train tomorrow. Let's go back up for some coffee."

The walk back was silent except for their footsteps that matched in different echoing tones. Touka was a few feet ahead of Kaneki and his lost thoughts.

'I wonder when Yuki will wake up... I feel ashamed... Because I fell in love, I made Yuki get hurt-'

"Oof!... Sorry Touka! I didn't realize we were....here...." Kaneki's sentence was completed after hesitation and shock as he let out a cold and fearful gasp.

"What's a human doing in here manager! This girl-"

Kankei pushed aside Touka and rushed to the limp and pale girl's body that laid on the wooden floor of the coffee shop. Kaneki's eyes held terror as he pulled the girl into his arms. He felt the touch of warm blood on his hands and hugged her tighter. Tears spilled onto the girl and floor as the manager and Yomo stayed silent into the weeping music.

"... Hey! Who is this woman-" After seeing more of the girl's face, Touka gasped and had a small flashback. Images flashing back to the day when Yuki entered the shop to meet Hide and Kaneki along with their ruckus when Rize came. The other memory she remembered of Yuki was when she was walking back from cram class and Yuki had bumped into her harshly.

"... She's that girl... That's your sister... I remember the fear in her eyes that day when- Why is she here!"

"She was about to be attacked by the gourmet. She surprisingly fought back but got wounded. I interfered and he left before I could do or say anything."

'... Gourmet?... Who's that?...' Silently in Kaneki's mind, he questioned the identity of Yuki's attacker.

Touka had finally quote understood the situation and nodded her head as Yomo held a curious yet suspicious look at the twins. The manager held a serious expression and started bandaging the girl's injured and bleeding arm.

"I-it's all my fault... I didn't even know she was awake from her coma... She must have gotten hurt, looking for me..." Kaneki continued to hug the limp body that stayed still with easy yet rigged breaths within his arms, even when the manager was bandaging her up.

"Don't worry Kaneki-kun... Her wound isn't fatal. She will live. It is not your fault." Putting a hand onto Kaneki's shoulder with assurance, he gave a softer smile and stood up.

"Yomo, please carry her upstairs to lay down somewhere comfortable. Kaneki and Touka, go ahead and go with him. I'll make coffee for all of us as we wait for her to wake."

Leaving the three, Kankei stepped aside for Yomo to carry his sister since he's not as strong as Yomo. Plus, he got beat up by Touka earlier during his training.

Once they got to put down Yuki onto a spare bed and tucked in, Kaneki sat next to Yuki and held her small and elegant hand.

"Does this mean that she's also a ghoul?..."

Struck by Touka's question, Kankei's eyes widened and lowered his head. Yomo too was intrigued, but he already knows the answer to this.

"... Yeah... She must be a ghoul already... Just like me... She'll have to suffer in this world now..."

"Hm. Touka. It's time to go. We need to go get those before sunrise." Touka nodded her head and stopped by the doorway once Yomo had left. She didn't turn her head and sighed.

"Make sure to not tell her of our true identities. Not even yours. She might not even know her own true identity. See ya."

'... I can't tell Yuki?.... I think I should though... But she won't betray me...right?... No... I shouldn't tell her... If I don't tell her...maybe she'll be more safe...'

"... Ken...nii....please....please don't leave me... Let's go home...please..."

Tears rolled down my face as I got down to my knees and held onto her left hand with two hands. I whimpered my agonizing screams of pain and sobbed.

"I-I'm so sorry Yuki! I didn't know you were out of your coma! I'm so s-sorry!"

'I'm sorry Yuki.... I don't think we'll be able to go home like peaceful siblings anymore... Our lives and fate would be different from now on...'
