The Truth Behind Carla's Dissapearance @user316714523267

Title

Immediately, I know that this is the official sequel to the book I previously reviewed, titled  'The Truth Behind Carla's Death'. I'm quite curious and a bit excited to read the book as I want to know what's going on with Carla and the whole Isaac situation. 'The Truth Behind Carla's Dissapearance' is a good title as it does carries on the trend of the first book.

Cover

The book cover is not overly attractive and is quite simple. The image used isn't very clear at all; it looks like tracks on the ground, but, I'm not really very sure if that's what it's supposed to be or not.

I understand that you're going for the mystery theme, however I feel as though it would be best if you worked with some other colours instead of just black, white, and grey as it makes the cover look dull if anything.

The text is also not very clear, and I believe this is because of the font. It's not really the best to use, since it's very simple and doesn't really stand out. The colour of the text would work great with a black background, but it clashes with the grey and white near the bottom. The text for the subtitles should be made larger. I can't make out what it says because it's too small.

Personally, this cover would make me less likely to continue reading the book, even if the contents are better.

Blurb

The blurb has way too many questions poring out, it's literally just question after question and I feel like you can do a little bit more than that, maybe give the readers something which will make them wonder. Also I noticed that there are a few spelling errors in the blurb which need adressing such as the word 'secrets' which you have spelt as 'secretes' as well as the word 'sequel' which you spell as 'squeal'.

First Chapter

I can see that Isaac is in a state in the first chapter. His head is pretty much all over the place and it's like the whole Carla situation is messing with his head. He doesn't really know what to do about her or himself, and he seems lost. The chapter is interesting though. I do want to find out more such as where the actual hell is Carla and whether or not she's even dead at all.

Plot / Theme

I feel like the plot is going at a reasonable pace, and I'm actually enjoying this book so much. I was over the moon when Isaac found the letter from Carla, because it gave him some hope and he was finally smiling. It absolutely sucked though when Carla came walking with Edi and then Isaac had to fake Nicole as a girlfriend. Both Isaac and Carla were jealous and hurt, they really need to be together.

The main theme throughout this book is definitely mystery as we're joining Isaac on this journey to figure out what's going on. He is confused himself and wanting answers, and so are we. I'd say keep going the way you are with your plot as it's interesting and there's definitely twists in it which the reader doesn't expect.

Writing

I feel like your writing has improved from book one for sure. It seems like the chapters have been written with more effort and time and everything seems planned out. I did thoroughly enjoy reading this book not only because of the plot development but also because your writing as well is good. I can see slight improvement such as you using more descriptive language, and that there were a few similes in your writing as well. Some feedback would be to continue checking the spelling and grammar throughout the chapters as this is a very easy area to make mistakes in.

Characters

Isaac and Carla have both improved in terms of their emotions and actions, and you've done a good job portraying them especially at the beginning and when they meet. You can see how lost and broken Isaac really is without Carla as he thinks the absolute world of her and he had hope that she would be alive.

Carla also seems to love him but she feels guilty at the fact that Isaac had to suffer for her and this is stopping her from rekindling things with him. You've really described their emotions and shown their behaviour very well. This is especially evident when they're both jealous when they see each other with different people.

Overall Impression

I'm loving the book, I can't deny it. It's full of mystery - and a bit of love - which is keeping me going and making me ask questions that are answered through your chapters. This book seems much more planned out than the first one: it seems like you're focusing on your work more and know where you want to go with it.

I would recommend this book to others, but of course you've got to read the first book in order to know what's going on in this one.
