Chapter 7
Dipper
"Your show was great!" Pacifica squealed, as I walked out of the tent.
"Why, thank you." I smiled. "So...how about that ice cream you owe me?"
"Oh, yeah!" Pacifica said. "Let's wait for Gideon and your sister."
"Actually, maybe we could walk there right now. I can text Mabel and tell her we're going early."
"Nah, I want to wait for Gideon, just in case you turn out to be a gnome."
I laugh. "Touché."
Pacifica
After Gideon was done assisting Mabel with cleaning up the stage, they came out. Mabel had changed from her mini skirt, blouse, and vest into a blue cotton sleeveless dress and black coat. She still wore her headband with the amulet on it. Meanwhile, Dipper still wore his outfit from the show, including the cape.
We walked to Greasy's Diner a few blocks away to go get ice cream, and it was a fun walk. We talked and talked, it felt like time went by so fast.
"I'm getting tired." I yawned, stretching my arms in the air. "I think I'll head home soon. Are you staying, Gideon?"
"Yeah, I'll be back at the Shack by 10." He said. "I think I want more ice cream."
"Me too!" Mabel agreed.
"I'll walk you home, Pacifica." Dipper offered. "I'm also getting tired, and after your experience with the gnomes, I don't really trust those woods."
"Oh, thanks!" I grinned. "That's so friendly of you!"
I stood up and pulled on my purple jacket, then picked up my purse and took out a 20.
"That should be enough to pay the bill." I said.
"No, I feel awful letting you pay. Please, let me." Dipper said, reaching in his pocket.
"No, no! It's the least I can do after you saved me and gave me those tickets. Please, I insist."
"Only if you insist." Dipper said, and stood up. "Well, goodbye Gideon. It was fun chatting with you. And I'll see you at home, sister."
"Bye!" They both waved, and resumed chatting. As soon as me and Dipper turned our backs to walk outside, though, I could hear them debating how much more ice cream they could order with the remainder of the 20 dollars after they paid the diner bill.
"I guess they both like their food." I said, as we walked outside into the chilly night air.
"Yeah, Mabel was the one blessed with fast metabolism. She eats industrial sized packs of sprinkles regularly and never gains a pound." Dipper says.
"Wow! I've eaten a whole barrel of chocolate before and I can't say the same. I got sick after the first few mouthfuls." I laughed.
"Yeah, I have no idea where people get that much food." Dipper said.
"Bulk stores!" I said. "Where nobody questions you if you buy 50 pounds of nacho cheese, which I actually had to do once."
"Yep!" He laughed. "So, how long have you been in Gravity Falls for?"
"About a day." I shrugged. "We just got up here this morning."
"And where are you and your cousin from?"
"I'm from California, but Gideon is from New Jersey. We visit each other a lot, though. Usually, he comes to visit me in Piedmont, but this year my parents had a business thing for their company that makes textiles and they're spending most of the summer in Japan. They traveled occasionally, but now it's almost all the time. So my parents and Gideon's decided to start sending us up here every year if this summer goes well."
"So, do you like it around here?" Dipper asked.
"Yeah. It's really beautiful up here and the townspeople are nice. The Mystery Shack is pretty cool, too. But I still miss my friends and my parents, though. Miles away, doing everything without me. By the end of the summer, they'll all be complete strangers to me."
"I know how you feel." Dipper said. "Our parents are rich and always travelling to new places without us. We're taken care of by a butler. It gets lonely."
"Oh, that sucks. It's the same in my house too, parents always working." I said.
"Yeah, summers usually are pretty ordinary up here in this small town. All we do is the shows and studying. But maybe this summer," Dipper looked into my eyes. "Things will be different."
His arm brushed against mine, and I had no idea what to say. My heart started to beat faster as we walked into the Shack's parking lot.
"Goodbye, Pacifica. It was lovely meeting you today."
"Same. It was awesome hanging out with you, too." I said, then I smiled at him quickly. "Goodnight!"
I ran inside, the screen door slamming behind me into the gift shop. My heart was pounding and my face felt hot. Was I blushing?
I hid behind the counter and watched slowly out of the orange illuminati window as Dipper walked away.
Was he trying to flirt with me? Guys had never tried to flirt with me before. Did this mean I would have a boyfriend this summer after all? Was I ready for a boyfriend?
Maybe his hand brushing against mine was an accident, but from the way I saw him gaze into my eyes, I knew one thing: Dipper Pines was in love with me.
And I had absolutely no idea how to feel about this.
Gideon
"I'll see you around. Bye!" I said to Mabel, and she waved back. I walked to the Shack alone, thinking about the fun we had that night. Mabel and Dipper seemed like pretty nice people. Maybe they could be good friends, but since they're competition, Grunkle Stan wouldn't agree.
I stepped inside of the Mystery Shack and went upstairs to me and Pacifica's room to find her curled up on her bed, staring at the ceiling.
"Paz, are you okay?" I asked her, and she turned to look at me.
"Oh, yeah! Just waiting for you!" She smiled, but from the vacant look in her eyes, I could tell something was off.
"Are you sure?"
Pacifica looks down and nodded. "I don't want to talk about it. It's really stupid, silly. Who cares about that? Night, cuz."
"Night." I said, and took off my vest and got into bed, then took out the journal from underneath my mattress.
"What I wouldn't give to know what she's thinking." I sighed. Usually she was so happy and carefree, it was strange to see her contemplating something. I wanted to know what was on her mind.
Maybe one of her favorite animes is ending, I thought, and put away the book and lay down.
