Chapter 6

Gideon

"Just close your eyes and relax." Mabel said. "Stay still."
I hesitated, then closed my eyes, tense. I was afraid to do this.
Trust no one, trust no one. The journal's words rang out in my head.
Suddenly, I felt light as a feather. For a moment it felt nice as I could feel myself floating up. I didn't even panic. I had this strange sense of trust for whoever was levitating me.
Suddenly, it was like my mind was thrust into darkness or a nightmare.
"You know about the journals!"a distorted voice spoke.
"Wha..what?" My voice croaked. "What journal?"
"You know what I'm talking about! "What book?"
"Tell me where it is!"
"Tell us, Gideon. Tell. Us. Trust. Us." Two distorted voice mixed together, getting louder and louder. "Tell! Us! Trust! Us!"
"Trust nobody... trust nobody..." I whispered to myself. "Make it stop.. make it stop!"
"Tell. Trust. Tell. Trust." The voices got closer and closer, until I could feel their warm breath yelling against my ears.
"TELL US! TRUST US!" They shouted. "You don't know anything about Gravity Falls. If you have that book you're in danger. There's a lot of things that want that book. Let us take it off your hands."
Their voices had become sickly sweet, but I didn't trust them.
"No!" I shouted, and the shield of darkness cracked and fell away. I awoke to the bright lights of the stage in the Tent of Telepathy on my hands and knees. Mabel was holding her hand out to me.
"Are you okay? I set you down standing and you just collapsed. You were shivering all over."
"I-I'm fine." I said.
"It's alright. Plenty of people have dreams during the levitation, because we have to make you partly unconscious to keep you from falling and hurting yourself."
I looked over at Pacifica, who was walking over to me. "Are you okay, Gid?"
"Yeah." I said. Mabel helped me up, and her and Dipper bowed.
"Now we have intermission. You have 15 minutes before the show resumes." Mabel said, and the curtains closed. "Are you feeling okay? Do you want me to show you to the bathrooms?"
"Yeah, thanks." I nodded.
"Do you want me to come with you, cuz?" Pacifica asked.
"No thanks, I think I just need to calm down alone somewhere. I'm fine."
"Okay! Let me know if you need to go back to the shack." Pacifica waved and walked off of the stage to buy more popcorn.
I tried to follow Mabel off stage, but I stumbled and tripped. My legs felt like weak jelly.
"Are you okay?" Mabel asked, rushing over to me.
"Y-yeah." I nodded. "It's just that the dream I had... It freaked me out."
"I see." Mabel said, helping me up and slinging my arm over her shoulder to help me walk. "I used to have lots of nightmares, too. Would you like to talk about what you saw?"
I told her about the whole dream, as she walked me to the bathrooms outside, which were surprisingly deserted.
"Journals?" She asked. "How...interesting. Do you know of any journals?"
"Journals?" I shook my head. "N-no, not really."
"I know you're lying." She said.
"W-what do y-you mean?" I asked.
"I can hear your heart rate increasing. You're lying, and you're very scared. I can feel the fear radiating from you."
"What do you mean? I-I'm not lying."
Mabel seemed to tower above me as her eyes turned blue.
"Tell me where the journal is!" Pebbles floated up, encased in a blue glow.
"I'm s-sorry, I don't k-know anything!" I begged.
She held out her hand and curled it slowly into a fist. I could feel my stomach start to churn, and I started to throw up blood onto the ground.
"Tell me!" She screamed.
I tried to talk, but I was choking on my own blood.
Please...make it stop. I thought, tears springing from eyes.
"Mabel, stop."
I looked up to see Dipper standing between me and Mabel.
"If you kill him, how will we find the journal?"
"But he won't tell me anything!" Mabel wailed as the pebbles dropped to the ground, and my stomach stopped twisting as I gulped in huge breaths.
"You aren't asking him the right way. Erase his memory of this, and I can tell you my plan later."
"Fine." Mabel said, and Dipper stood aside. "Gideon Gleeful, you will lose your memory of the last 2 minutes. I never threatened you. I never asked about the journal. I helped you to the bathroom and you collapsed."
I looked up, into her hypnotizing eyes. The memories started to slip away, but no matter how much I grasped for them, they faded. Remember, remember, remember, I thought, and I started to hyperventilate.
"Stop resisting, Gideon." Dipper said. "It will be better for all of us."
"No... must.... remember." I coughed.
"Fool." Dipper rolled his eyes, and kicked my head. In that moment, I was distracted and where the memory was it became a blank slate.

Mabel

"What... huh? What happened?" Gideon asked, standing up. I helped him up.
"I was talking to you when you suddenly fell and hit your head." I said. "Are you alright?"
"Yeah, I feel fine, thanks." Gideon said, standing up and adjusting his hat. "Well, thanks for talking to me! I'll see you after the show, I should find Pacifica. Bye!"
"Bye." I shyly waved, feeling myself blush. Suddenly, I was glad I didn't kill him. He was kind of... adorable.
"Let's go inside and discuss our plan." Dipper said. We went into the tent and to our private dressing room, which was really just a corner separated by a dresser and wall.
"So, our plan?" I asked, sitting down on a chair, while Dipper leaned against the dresser.
"You saw while you were levitating him that he had the journal, right?" He asked. I nodded. "You were way too eager. Now, after that dream, he isn't going to tell just anyone."
"So what should we do about it?" I asked.
"I need you to fall in love with Gideon."
"Easier done than said, brother. Gideon isn't too bad looking." I glanced out of a small rip in the tent where Gideon was greeting Pacifica. "All I need to do is get him to like me. But what if it doesn't work?"
"I have a backup plan." Dipper said. "At the same time I'll start dating Pacifica."
"Do you have feelings for her, brother?" I teased.
"No!" He said, blushing.
"Oh, you do!" I giggled. "I can feel the love emitting from you when you're around her!"
"Stop it! This is purely business." Dipper crossed his arms. "She might also know something about the journal, too, that Gideon might not tell you."
"Alright, I believe you." I said sarcastically. "Now, how will I get Gideon to fall in love with me?" I dreamily sighed as Dipper went out to set up the next act.
