Chapter 40

Pacifica

"What is this place?" Dipper asked, after we had fallen through the painting.
"I don't know, I've never been here before." I pushed the hair out of my face and stood up.
"Hopefully the ghost doesn't know about it." Dipper said.
"Yeah, maybe we're safe." I said. Suddenly, Dipper's eyes grew wide.
"Pacifica, behind you!"
I whipped around to see the ghost, with his axe raised.
"YOUR FATE IS SEALED!" He bellowed, ready to let the axe swoop down on me. I turned around and started to run in my high heels, but In the dim light I tripped over a box of silverware.
"PREPARE TO DIE, SOUTHEAST!"
I fell to the ground, and the ghost was about to swing his axe down on me, when Dipper dashed in front of me holding a small handheld silver mirror.
The axe and the ghost tumbled into the silver mirror, pushing us back and rolling us down and out of a first-story window, a curtain draped over us as we rolled to a stop in the peacock garden.
I pushed away the heavy curtain. "Did you get it?"
He held up the mirror and we both looked at it. Inside, the ghost was banging on the glass.
"NO! FREE ME!" He yelled, agitated.
"Yes!" I hugged Dipper, laughing. "We did it!"
"So, want to go exorcise it?" Dipper asked, pulling away.
"I should probably get back to the party and tell my parents that we did. You go on ahead!"

Dipper

I watched as Pacifica ran back to the party to tell her parents, and I started to walk away with the mirror in hand to exorcise the ghost.
The ghost started to laugh deeply.
"What are you laughing at?" I asked. "Me and Pacifica defeated you."
"You've been had, boy. You remind me of myself a hundred and fifty years ago." He chuckled.
"What do you mean?"
"One hundred and fifty years ago," the ghost started, "the Southeasts asked us lumber-folk to build them a mansion atop the hill. We were told t'would be a service to the town, that once a year they would throw a grand party and all would share in the bounty. It tools years of backbreaking labor and sacrifice, but when it was time for the grand party they promised the common-folk of the town, they refused to let us in. With the trees gone, the mudslides began. While they partied and laughed, I was swept away by the storm. And so I said with final breath, 'One fifty years I'll return from death, and if the gate's still closed to the town, wealthy blood will stain the ground.', a curse passed on until this day."
"So the Southeasts knew this was coming and they tricked me into helping them to avoid ghostly justice?" I asked. "Wow, Pacifica is more evil than I thought."
"Aren't you going to do anything?" The ghost asked.
"No. To be honest, that's what I would have done, too." I shrugged casually. "Probably would have killed any witnesses, though."
"Please, let me get my vengeance on the Southeasts!" The ghost pleaded.
"I would like to see everyone die, but my girlfriend and my sister is in there, so I'll say 'no'."
"Very well, boy. Then, before you banish my soul, may these tired lumber eyes gaze upon the trees one final time?" He asked.
I sighed. "Ugh, fine." I held up the mirror to the sky so he could see the forest over the gates.
The ghost started to cackle, and the mirror started to turn red-hit. I quickly dropped it before I burned my hand, and as it hit the ground, the glass shattered. The ghost floated out, laughing maniacally.
"VENGEANCE!" The ghost cried, as he flew back to the mansion.
"Oh no! Mabel and Pacifica!"

Gideon

"Look, Mabel, I'm not interested." I sighed. "For the last time. Can I go back to talking to Marius?"
"Nope!" Mabel smiled. "You're staying right here. Unless you want some fancy cheese! Let's go get fancy cheese!"
She started to pull my arm, but I swatted her away. "No! Let me go talk to Marius."
I turned around to look for Marius, when I saw Grenda and Marius flirting with each other.
"Great. Guess he likes girls." I sighed.
"Aww, that's too bad, huh? Austrian guys are so cute. Good news, though, I'm about 34% Austrian!" She said, popping in front of me. "Will you marry me now?"
"Mabel, I told you again and again, you've tried to kill my cousin, you dressed up as someone else to trick me, and it's obvious I will never go out with you, so just get over it already!" I shouted, then turned and walked away.
"Please, Gideon, just forgive me!" Mabel tugged on my arm. I didn't turn around.
"Look, I can't. You're a crazy psychopath with one of those weird magic amulets that made you and Dipper crazy serial killers. Think I'm going to say yes that easily? If you do, you have problems."
I was dipping a fruit in the chocolate fountain, when I heard the front doors to the mansion swing open. I didn't think anything of it, rich people like to be 'fabulously late', until a loud voice laughed,
"GENERATIONS LOCKED AWAY, MY REVENGE SHALL HAVE IT'S DAY!"
I turned around to see the ghost laughing and floating in the doorway. He started to fling blue beams at people, turning them into wood. The taxidermy animals became alive, attacking the guests.
"Oh no!"

Dipper

I ran, following the ghost into the ballroom. Most of the guests were wood, or being turned into wood. The taxidermy animals' eyes were red and ravenous as they held down the remaining people.
"Well, that's certainly a unique way of revenge." I sighed. "Well, looks like Mabel is wood and I have to save her. Yay."
The ghost laughed as he looked out over the ballroom, filled with plants starting to grow out over the room. "JUST ONE WAY TO CHANGE YOUR FATES, A SOUTHEAST MUST OPEN THE PARTY GATES!"
"A Southeast? Pacifica!" I looked around, and luckily I didn't see her turned into wood. I tried to think of where she might be, and I started to run down the hall to the secret room behind the painting.
I burst through the painting to see Pacifica sitting there, flicking her flashlight on and off.
"Pacifica, the ghost just started turning people into wood, and Mabel is wood, I need you to go out and open the gates-"
"What?!" She leaped up. I could see her eyes were red and her cheeks were wet from crying.
"Wait, you didn't know? Why were you crying?" I asked, pulling her arm. She didn't budge.
She looked down and dropped her flashlight. It fell to the ground.
"Dipper...my parents said I have to break up with you."
