Chapter 39

Pacifica

"Here's the problem room." I said, leading Dipper and Mabel into the haunted dining room. We had only managed to get Mabel up with the promise of letting her keep the chocolate fountain.
"Yeah, this looks like a haunted room." Dipper said. "But it shouldn't be too much to worry about. Floating plates sounds like a category one."
"So, are you going to bore him back into the afterlife?" Mabel snickered at Dipper. "Who needs all this talk? We just need to splash anointed water and he should be out of Pacifica's fake blonde hair."
"Hey! This is real!" I said, as Mabel took out a small bottle of water.
"Really? Because I see the roots growing in brown."
"What?!" I reached my hands up to cover my hair, and Mabel laughed.
"Told you her hair was fake."
"I think she looks beautiful." Dipper said, and kissed me on the cheek.
"Ew!" Mabel shrank back. "Gross."
"Hey, wasn't there somebody in that painting?" I asked, looking up at the portrait above the fireplace. Suddenly, something warm dripped onto my hair. I shuddered as I looked up to see the stuffed animal heads' mouths and eyes dripping blood. We all backed up as they started to chant.
"ANCIENT SINS. ANCIENT SINS." The animal chanted.
"What's going on?" I screamed.
"I'm out!" Mabel ran towards the door, but it was slammed shut. She tried to open it, but it wouldn't budge. "It's locked!"
Books and furniture started to float up in a blue glow and fly around.
"Mabel, this isn't funny!" Dipper yelled.
"It isn't me!" Mabel pointed to her amulet. "See, it isn't glowing!"
We dove under a table as the chandelier started to crackle with electricity.
"It's a category 10!" Dipper whispered to us.
"ANCIENT BLOOD AND BLACKENED SKIES, ONCE MORE THE FOREST SHALL RISE!" The animal heads chanted.
"Dipper, what's going on?" I tugged the collar of his coat.
"I'm not sure!" He cried.
"It can't get worse than this, at least." Mabel nervously laughed, then shook Dipper's shoulders. "WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE!!"
"I'm sure it'll calm down soon." Dipper said, trying to reassure us, when the flames in the fireplace started to blaze higher and an enormous skeleton crawled out, with an axe dug into his skull and wearing overalls.
"I SMELL... A SOUTHEAST!" A beard made of blue fire appeared on his chin, and a large axe materialized in his hand. He started to drag it through the floor as he walked.
"That's mahogany!" I furiously whispered, but Dipper clapped a hand over my mouth and shushed me.
"COME OUT, COME OUT, WHEREVER YOU ARE!" The ghost called, and Dipper took out his journal.
"Hurry up and read through your dumb journal already!" Mabel whispered.
"Hey, this could save our lives." I hissed.
"I'm looking, I'm looking." Dipper flipped through the pages of his journal. "Okay, advice: pray for mercy?"
"We don't have time for this!" I sighed.
The table floated up in the air, and the ghost looked at us with his empty, soulless eyes.
"YOU SHOULD'NT HAVE COME HERE!" He bellowed, and raised his axe. I pulled Dipper away, and Mabel dodged it, rolling to the side.
We busted down the door and ran out of the room, and down the hall. Mabel didn't follow. Instead, she ran back to the ballroom.
"I just remembered I have important flirting to do with Gideon!" She cried, fleeing.
I sighed angrily, and yelled behind her, "Guess somebody isn't getting that chocolate fountain!"
"I'll steal it!" She called as we turned a corner.
"Let's not worry about that right now." Dipper said, tugging my arm and running faster.
We ran out of the door and through our garden, where we kept various animals.
"Watch out for peacocks!" I warned.
"How did you get these?" He asked.
"Smuggling." I answered, and we ran through another door into another hallway. Dipper took out his journal and started looking through the pages.
"Haunted paintings can be trapped inside a silver mirror!" He said, showing me the page. "And there's one right there!"
He pointed one of the parlors ahead of us, which had a large mirror with a silver frame. He was about to run in there when I grabbed his arm and pulled him back.
"Wait, you'll track mud in there!" I cried, pulling him back.
"What?!" He asked, and tried to run back in, but I pulled him back.
"That carpet is imported all the way from India! Do you know expensive it was? It's my parents' favorite carpet pattern!"
"Are you kidding? This is complete-"
"My parents will kill me!"
"Why are you so afraid of your parents?" Dipper asked, as I tried to restrain him from going into the parlor.
"You wouldn't understand!" I said.
I pulled at his journal, causing me to trip and pull him with me through a painting.

Mabel

"Okay, I'm back!" I ran over to Candy and Grenda. "Nobody is taking my Gideon, right?"
"Actually, he's looking pretty friendly with that guy." Candy pointed to Gideon.
"It's just a guy. It's not like he's gay." I shrugged, but then my worries overtook me. "Oh no? What if he is?!"
"Don't worry, I'm sure he would date nobody but you." Candy reassured. "Besides, he fell in love with you in your crazy sock puppet girl disguise."
"I guess he's bi or pan, then." I sighed. "Ugh! That's going to make things so much harder. Even more people to keep my beloved Gideon away from!"
"How about you go flirt with Gideon, and we'll go flirt with that guy?" Grenda suggested, pointing to the guy Gideon was talking to.
"Great idea!" I said. "And when I'm done flirting with Gideon, I heard Justin BIEBER was on the guest list. Who wants to kill him?"
"Me!" Candy and Grenda cheered.
"Great!" I smiled. "Okay, let's go flirt!"
