Chapter 35

Pacifica

It was like the fraying thread of my mind suddenly snapped together and connected.
My memories came rushing forward from my darkness, and I breathed them in. Gideon, Grunkle Stan, Dipper. Their faces played in nearly all of my happy memories.
And then there was the unhappy ones. Mabel, Will, my parents, Bill.
My death.

But why am I not dead?

A wave of agony swept through my numb body, and there was a flash of bright blue light, then I appeared in a forest, standing across from Dipper.
"Dipper!" I happily cried, running to hug him, but his face didn't move. "Dipper?"
He held out his fist and opened it to reveal a ring, one with a gem that looked like his amulet. "Put this on."
"Huh?" I examined it closer and picked it up, then dropped it and jumped back in realization. "That's the ring...from my nightmare! Don't make me put it on!"
Dipper scowled, and picked up the ring. "Put it on." He growled, pushing it at me, but I back up against a tree. "Now!"
"No! I don't want it!" I cried. He grabbed my shoulders.
"Pacifica, you need to put this on." He said. "You need it."
"No! I don't!" I said.
"Now!"
I tried to push him away, but he caught my hand and pushed the ring onto my finger. My hand burst into a blue flame, enveloping my whole body and the surrounding woods.
"What's going on?!" I screamed, tears falling from my eyes.
"You're going to be much better now." He laughed. "Much, much better than weak Pacifica who let herself be tricked by Bill, that everyone always has to save. I think it's time I gave you it, don't you think?"
"What do you mean?" I backed against a tree, and he grinned evilly.
"That amulet makes you like me and Mabel, a hunter, not the hunted." He said. "Don't you want to be so much stronger?"
The blue flames grew thicker, until they burned so bright, blue was the only thing in my vision.
"Dipper!" I screamed, as I fell onto the ground.

Dipper

I managed to get her back to her bed with no problem sneaking past her nearly-deaf Great Uncle, and Wendy and Gideon burning most of the sock puppets in the front yard.
I laid Pacifica down. In the time that I had taken to carry her home, her neck had healed and most of the cuts and bruises were already patched up.
I sat next to her on a chair as she slept peacefully, waiting for her to wake up. She stirred a little bit, but otherwise she was mostly quiet.
"No....don't....want it..." I looked over to see Pacifica talking in her sleep. "No...what do you...mean....DIPPER!"
She shot up from bed, her breathing rushed.
"It's fine, I'm here." I said, and she looked at me with frightened eyes.
"D...dipper." She took a deep breath. "Sorry, I was having a nightmare, I guess. Can't exactly remember what it was about. Why are you in my room?"
"Do you remember the whole thing where Bill possessed you, and made you fall off of the catwalk?" I asked.
"Oh, yeah." She reached a hand up to her neck. "I should be dead, but I feel fine. I mean, I felt the thump and everything. Yikes, that was a hard fall."
"I'm surprised you're taking being alive so well." I said. "Most people don't want to know what death feels like."
"It wasn't that bad." Pacifica shrugged. "So, um, why am I alive?"
"Do you see that ring on your finger?" I asked. Pacifica held up her hand to her face, and smiled.
"Ooh, it's so pretty! It kinda looks like your amulet, too." She was mesmerized by its glow in the fading sunlight.
"You're telling me you don't remember this at all? From your worst fear when you looked at the Gremloblin?" I asked.
"Nope!" She said. "It really is beautiful, though. So what does this have to do with being alive?"
"Well, that ring is an amulet. An extra, actually." I explained. "That amulet, besides giving you all of the powers me and Mabel have with ours, also heals you after one death and protects you from being possessed by dream demons."
"So Bill can't hurt me now!" She smiled, and looked up at me. "But why did you give this to me?"
"Because, you were dead."
"Oh, right!" She shrugged. "Thanks, I guess. Wait, can I levitate stuff?"
"Try." I said. She took a deep breath.
"Okay, I got this, I got th-IT'S WORKING!!"
I looked down to see I was encased in a blue glow and floating up off the chair. I used my amulet to counteract Pacifica's, placing me back on the chair.
"Aw!" She pouted. "You could have at least let me fly you around."
"Not right now." My time became serious. "Pacifica, you can't tell anyone about this amulet, okay? Don't use it unless you absolutely need to, because it Mabel finds out she'll be pis-I mean, mad."
"Don't worry, I won't tell anyone." She started to take the ring off, but I slapped her hand away. "What?"
"Don't take off that ring." I said. "That amulet is like a drug. Your body is addicted. If it goes too long without it, you'll die."
"Oh." She sighed. "But how will I explain this ring, then? 'Oh, my boyfriend gave me this super expensive-looking ring and now I have supernatural blue glowey powers'?"
"You can just wear a glove over it." I said.
"Okay, that sounds good enough." Pacifica pushed back her blanket covers and swung her legs over the bed.
"Wait! You should probably rest, you did just die." I stopped her, but she just smiled.
"I'm fine, don't worry!" She stood up. "I think I'm going to scavenge through the laptop parts, since Bill broke it."
"Sure." I nodded. "I'll be off, then. Try not to get too mad or anything while I'm gone, or you might accidentally use your amulet."
"Alright." She nodded.
"And if anything happens with the amulet or Bill-"
"I'll be fine, don't worry." Pacifica kissed me on the cheek. "I'll call you if anything happens. I'll see you later."
"Bye." I kissed her on the cheek back, and walked out.

Mabel

"What do you mean?!" I screamed. "You said you killed her, but Dipper has been acting just fine! Pacifica obviously isn't dead."
"Ah...well..." Bill tugged at his bow tie. "Oh, well, would you look at the time! Got to get back to my mossy tomb of emptiness and depression! Bye, Shooting Star!"
Bill tipped his top hat and disappeared, and I sighed.
"Are you...KIDDING?!" The rocks around me started to float up, even ones as large as my head. "All of this...for nothing?!"
I ran my fingers through my hair. "Whatever. It's only less than a week until it happens. Then, I can get everything I want."
I just need to be patient.
