Chapter 2

Gideon

Me and Pacifica stood at the front of the Mystery Shack, taking in our new home for the next two months.
"So, pretty grand, eh?" Stan asked, as he showed us around inside.
"Um...yeah." I said, and Pacifica cheered.
"This place is awesome! What's your Wi-fi password?"
Our generation in one sentence.
Although, the Mystery Shack was pretty okay. It was perfect. There was dense forest surrounding us. Who knows what could be hiding in there, waiting to be found? Also, it was only about a five minute walk to most of the town.
Our fun was soon spoiled, though, when after we finished packing, Stan asked us to put up flyers for the Mystery Shack in the woods. We had no choice in the matter, really. He gave us a hammer, nails, and the flyers. He said we could either put up the flyers or drive the nails in beaver skulls to make a new attraction.
So me and Pacifica went outside to go put up the flyers that read "MYSTERY SHACK: (not a scam)" while Stan started gluing a deer antler on a stuffed turkey.
I was putting up the last flyer in the middle of the woods, when the nail responded with a deep metallic thunk when I attempted to hammer a flyer. I studied the tree, and the more I looked at it, the more odd it seemed. The branches weren't as curvy, and all the leaves were gone. Faint imprints of welding could be made out.
I searched around the strange tree when I found something like hatch. Wiping away dust, I curiously pried it open to reveal a small machine with a lever.
"What is this?" I whispered to myself, examine the machine. I reached in to take it out, when my finger pressed down on something and I heard a small click. I started to panic. What if it was a bomb? Or an alien telephone?
Behind me, I heard a mechanical creaking. I spun around to see apart of the ground opening in front of a log, loose dirt spilling in.
I walked over to it, and inside I saw a faint red through the dirt. I quickly brushed it away to reveal a red journal with a golden six-fingered hand on it that said "3". I picked it up and started to carefully leaf through the yellowed pages.
"Gnomes...zombies...triangle thing...ghosts. All here in Gravity Falls."
I lay down against the log and looked up at the sky, then held the dusty book in front of me.
"This has to be real. Who would go through so much trouble to hide this to that extent?" I said to myself. "Maybe this will be an interesting summer after all."
"Whatcha reading, cuz? Some math book?" Pacifica's head popped over me suddenly, causing me to shriek. She laughed.
"Come on, are you done putting up the posters yet? I want to go into town and see if there are any cute guys!" She squealed. "Let's go!"
Before I could protest, Pacifica pulled me away.

Mabel

"Listen to this, sister, two girls have gone missing."
"More?" I snorted, crossing my arms. "From those headlines, they should know to stay inside."
"They were eventually released, but they had no memories of what happened. They all said they were suddenly knocked out."
"If they're safe, then we have nothing to worry about." I said, and uncrossed my arms.
"Yes, but I just want to remind you to stay safe." Dipper said. "Those girls were about our age, sister dear."
"Then whoever kidnapped them will know better than to mess with me." I smiled, picking up a knife from the table and twirling it in my hands, until the blade cut part of my black glove.
"Pity, seems my glove has ripped. Brother, tell Will to mend it later."
"Just tell him yourself."
"He won't listen to me. It's your deal you made with him."
"That sniveling coward will listen to the lowliest of rats. Surely he'll obey you."
"I suppose." I shrugged, and snapped my wrist, throwing the knife at the target. Dead bullseye again. "Let's go practice for the show."

Gideon

For the past hour, Pacifica had been flirting with lots of guys, but her search turned up no results.
"All I want is for a guy to like me!" She wailed, while I read the book I had found that we had dubbed "The Journal".
"Relax, Pacifica. You have plenty of time to find a guy here, in fact, the whole summer." I groaned. "It'll be a long time before we go home."
"It's not enough time! The clock is ticking!"
"To the end of summer?"
"To inevitable death!"
"Really, cuz, you get dark when you're sad." I closed the book. "How about we go home and get you ice cream?"
Pacifica shook her head. "One more try."
"Fine." I groaned. "I'll start heading home."
I got up off the park bench, while Pacifica went on her quest for her dream boyfriend.

It was about 5 PM when Pacifica arrived with her new boyfriend.
I was a little shocked.
"This is Norman!" She squealed, hugging him.
He limply waved an arm. "Hello."
"What's that on your mouth?" I asked, seeing something red drip down from underneath his hood. He reached up to touch it.
"Jam." He said, and rubbed it on his hoodie. "Me and Pacifica are going to take a walk."
"Are you sure? It's almost sunset." I said.
"No, it's fine!" Pacifica giggled. "Don't worry, we'll be back before we go to see that show. Actually, no, we're heading in that direction, why don't you meet us there?"
"Sounds great." I said, eying Norman suspiciously as they walked out the door together.
"Bye!" Pacifica smiled, and the wooden door swung shut.
