Chapter 17
Dipper
"Will, I told you to find Mabel a new amulet!"
"I'm s-sorry-"
"Sorry won't get you anything. There aren't that many amulets. Mabel needs a new one soon, or you know what will happen?"
"Y-yes, m-master, I'm trying but..."
"If you don't find it by next week, you'll have more knife practice with you as the target. Got it?"
"Yes." Will floated out, as Mabel walked past in the hall, then stopped in the doorway when she saw me.
"Hello, Dipper. How's the search going?" She said, hiding something behind her back.
"Will can't do anything right." I crossed my arms and fell on the couch. "I told him to search day and night for that amulet, and he still hasn't found it yet. What's that you have?"
Mabel smiled. "Nothing! I'll be in my room, and don't come in."
"You're going to watch one of those stupid vampire movies again?"
"No!"
I laughed, as she quickly walked away with whatever she was hiding.
Pacifica
"I'm looking, I'm looking!" I said, as I flipped through the pages of our journal. "But we can only grow back if we have the flashlight! I'm sorry, but it's hopeless." I slammed the journal shut and sank against the glass.
"Quick, hide the journal, she's taking us out!"
I tucked the journal inside the large pocket of my thin neon pink jacket, and we were shook as the jar was slammed down on the table.
"Now, then," Mabel opened up the lid of the jar and slowly tilted it over, letting us slide out onto the desk. "Don't try to escape. I have a few questions to ask you two."
Mabel held up the flashlight with the crystal tied to it and looked over us. "How did you come across this? Did you read about it somewhere?"
"Like we would ever tell you!" I shouted as I stood up.
"I can be very convincing." She held up her finger above my head. "I can squish you like a bug, if you like. I still have Gideon to question."
"Dipper would know if I was missing!" I said.
"I'm not stupid, I thought about that. But this town is full of strange things, and people go missing all the time and are found dead in the strangest ways. He might blame himself for your death and not being able to protect you... but he'll forget about you eventually. Same with everyone around here," Mabel slammed down the flashlight right next to me, making me jump back. "A lot of people go missing around here. The police officers are too lazy to do anything about it. Everyone is so ignorant of what is around them. This wouldn't be my first kill, and certainly not my last."
"Mabel, we don't know about any journals." Gideon said. "Honestly!"
"Good, because you don't want Will fishing around in your mind if you are lying." Mabel said. I took a sigh of relief. Maybe if Gideon did all of the talking, we would be okay. "Now, has your uncle told you anything about the Mystery Shack?"
"No." Gideon shook his head, and he looked about as confused as me.
"Really? Then, has anything had cause to create suspicion about your great uncle?"
"No, not really." Gideon answered calmly.
"Okay, I guess if you two are blind as the town, then I'll have to take matters into my hands. Try escaping, and Waddles will kill you."
She pointed to a large sleeping pig in the corner that had horns growing out of his head, spikes poking out from its back, and blood dripping out of its mouth from its last meal.
"That's a scary pig." I whispered to Gideon.
"Y-yeah." Gideon's voice trembled with fear.
Mabel took out her smartphone and dialed the number for the Mystery Shack. It rang two times before someone picked up.
"Hello?"
"Listen very closely, Stan Southeast. I have Pacifica and Gideon trapped. If you don't give me the Mystery Shack, I will kill them."
"The kids? They're fine, I just saw them in the yard a few minutes ago."
"No, I have them right here! I'll text you a pictu-"
"Listen, I'm busy and I have a tour to run in a few minutes. Goodbye."
"Wait, no!" Mabel screamed, as Grunkle Stan hung up. She threw her cell phone at the ground, and the screen shattered. She looked furious.
"I'll go there myself! Who needs that stupid amulet if nobody can find it? I still have my knives!" She grabbed a knife out of her vest. "Try moving, and you're dead!"
She took the flashlight and put it up on a shelf next to a bowl full of candy. "I'll be back in an hour."
She walked out, slamming the door behind her. "DIPPER! I'LL BE BACK IN A HOUR!"
I sat down on an eraser. "I guess this is the end."
"End? Come on, what do you mean? We can find a way to reach that flashlight." Gideon tugged my arm and pointed to the shelf.
"No, we can't."
"What about your grappling hook?"
"I left it in our room." I sank my head into my knees. "It's over. She's going to do something to Grunkle Stan, and take the Mystery Shack. Why does she even want it?"
I heard the door creak open, and I saw Dipper walk in. I stood up almost immediately.
"Dipper!" I screamed. He looked over, but I guess he didn't see me, because he shrugged and went over to Mabel's bed and pulled out her diary to start reading.
"Dipper! Dipper!" I ran to the edge of the desk. He looked up from the diary, and walked over curiously to find out the source of the noise, then he gasped when he saw me and Gideon shrunken.
"Pacifica! What happened?" He asked.
"Mabel kidnapped us!" I cried. "She used that flashlight to shrink us."
I pointed up to the flashlight on the shelf, and Dipper took it down.
"I can't believe she would do something like that to you." He said, but his eyes showed no surprise. "Is there a way to reverse this?"
"Yeah, just flip the crystal." Gideon said. Dipper switched the crystal's side on the flashlight, and set us down on the ground. He pointed the flashlight at us and flicked the switch.
Me and Gideon started to grow, until Dipper turned off the light and we were at normal height.
"Thank you so much!" I hugged Dipper. "But I think Mabel is going to kill our Grunkle Stan!"
"What?" He demanded. "She's not in good enough shape. Without that amulet, she's weak. If she exerts herself..."
"Well, it looks like we both have our reasons to stop her, so let's just go already." Gideon grabbed both of our arms and dragged both of us out of the room.
