Chapter 13
Pacifica
Later that night, one by one the party's guests filtered in. Since the DJ cancelled, Wendy had to DJ and Gideon looked sad while sitting alone and selling tickets.
I was filling up my cup with soda when I saw Mabel standing in the crowd, along with Dipper.
Before I knew it, I had accidentally overfilled my cup and the soda was dripping off the table.
The guy who likes me and the girl who tried to kill me are at the same party as me. Great.
They didn't see me yet, thankfully. They were just casually chatting.
Should I be here? What if Mabel tried to kill me again? What if I made a wrong move around Dipper?
I slowly backed away from the spilled soda.
Quick, go before they see you! I thought, when Dipper caught my eye. He smiled at me and started to walk over to me.
Nonononono! I should have gone quicker. My heart pounded as he came over with Mabel.
"Hi, Pacifica." Dipper greeted me.
"Oh, hi Dipper!" I grinned. Just be cool, Pacifica, be cool. "And hi, Mabel."
"Hello, Pacifica." She said coldly, crossing her arms. She glared at me, because I was supposed to be dead. "I didn't expect to see you here."
"Yeah, pretty funny, huh?" I said. "So, you guys enjoying the party?"
"Yeah, it's really nice." Dipper said. "Better than that show we were going to have tonight."
"You cancelled a show to come here?" I asked.
"Yeah. It took a little convincing to get Mabel to come, but once I told her Gideon was here, she was more than happy to cancel."
"Hey!" Mabel scolded Dipper. "Shut up!"
"It's true, sister. Don't deny that." He said.
"If you want to see Gideon, he's selling tickets in the front." I said.
"Yeah, thanks. Not like I'm going to go see him or anything. I have my own friends to hang out with."
Mabel walked away.
"I'm surprised you're being so nice to her after yesterday." Dipper said.
"If I don't want her to hate me, I might as well be nice." I said, shrugging.
He smiled at me. "So you aren't mad at her for yesterday?"
"Well, I guess a little bit, but I should still be polite." I said. "After all, she would have killed me if it wasn't for you. Thanks, I guess."
"Any time." Dipper smiled.
Gideon
I wished I could be inside the party. Everybody looked like they were having so much fun, but I was stuck at the ticket booth.
"Maybe I should just take a little break." I mumbled, and I switched the card that said 'Open' to 'Closed' and stood up. "Grunkle Stan won't mind if I take a little break."
I was about to walk away when I ran into someone. Grunkle Stan was standing right in front of me, blocking my path.
"Woah, these people aren't going to rip themselves off. You promised." Grunkle Stan said.
"Really?" I asked. "I don't remember that."
Grunkle Stan took out a tape recorder and pressed the play button.
"I promise."
Dang it! I sighed. "Please, Grunkle Stan, can't I have a break?"
"Sorry, kid. Later, if your cousin wants to take over, but she's looking pretty cozy with that Pines kid." Grunkle Stan said, taking a sip of his Pitt Cola and pointing to the window. "Maybe I can find a way to make money off their relationship!"
I looked inside to see Dipper talking to Pacifica, and they were both chatting happily. Why was he, of all people, the one my cousin liked? He could be a psychopath like Mabel! I needed to go in there and split them up.
Unfortunately, Grunkle Stan shooed me back to the ticket booth, and as I took money and handed tickets, I tried to think of how I could get inside.
If only I could duplicate myself.
Suddenly, I remembered earlier today, when the copier copied Pacifica's arm.
The copying machine!
When Grunkle Stan wasn't looking, I snuck away and into the party. I pushed through the crowd to get to the office. Finally, I escaped the loud music and into the dark hallway.
"Boo!"
I whipped around to see Mabel.
"I scared you!" She giggled.
"Go away, Mabel." I said.
"Aw, why?" She asked, taking my hand, which I snatched away from her.
"You nearly killed Pacifica!" I said. "Don't act like you did nothing wrong!"
"I said I was sorry! Please, just forgive me, Gideon!" Mabel begged. "I overreacted!"
"You definitely did overreact, a lot!" I said. "Leave me alone, Mabel."
"Where are you going, anyways?" She asked, batting her eyelashes.
"Nowhere. Just go."
"Okay." She pouted. "I'll see you later, I guess. Maybe someday you can forgive me. I'm really sorry, Gideon, for everything."
"You better be." I whispered under my breath, and turned around to keep walking.
I opened the door to the dark office, and went inside. The copying machine was in the corner, glowing a faint blue. I opened up the lid, and lied down, then pressed the copy button on the keypad. As it scanned me, I felt more and more nervous as seconds passed.
Finally, after what felt like eternity, I heard the paper come out.
I got up and set down the paper.
"Here goes nothing." I said, as the paper started to rustle. The printout of my back started to come up from the paper, going from 2D to 3D. He stood up and turned around, and I gasped.
The clone looked just like me, except his skin was slightly paler and there was no pine tree on his hat.
"Woah." I gasped. "It worked!"
"Yeah, great, huh?" Gideon 2 said.
"So, we aren't going to turn on each other, right? Like in the movies?"
"This is us we're talking about. Besides, you can always disintegrate me with liquid."
"Yeah." I nodded. "So, what should I call you? Gideon 2?"
"You could." Gideon 2 said. "So, you want me to work the tickets?"
"Yep." I nodded. "And I'll just be at the party."
"Well, you're certainly more devious than I thought, Gideon. Can I have a copy to take home?"
Me and Gideon 2 were startled at the sound of a familiar voice, and we jumped when we saw it was Mabel, hanging upside down from the ceiling.
"How did you get in?!" Me and Gideon 2 demanded.
"I'm not completely useless without my amulet." She dropped down onto her hands and did a flip up. "I was in the show business long before I got it. I'm quite surprised you actually cloned yourself. Maybe you have a little bit of evil in you."
"Yeah, right." Me and Gideon 2 said, crossing our arms.
"I can't even believe that you have a machine that can do this." Mabel leaned against the copier. "Imagine the possibilities! What I could do with this!"
"Like we'd ever let you use that!"
"Don't worry, I'm only imagining!"
"Still dangerous. Get out."
"Are you sure you want to be so rude to me?" Mabel asked. "I can easily drag you and your clone into the party room and show everyone. Not only would you be locked away for scientific experimentation, but your Great Uncle would be pretty mad at you for leaving the ticket booth. In other words, you have to listen to me and hear out my request."
