Chapter 10
Mabel
I watched Pacifica frozen in fear, while the scissors slowly came closer and closer to her.
Soon, she would be nothing but shredded flesh and bones.
"Please...why are you doing this?" Pacifica squeaked in fear.
"You're just simply in my way, I thought we established that earlier, dear." I crossed my arms. "Well, it looks like it's time for the show to start. Where should I begin?"
I used my finger to take control of a pair of scissors and swoop them around her. "Hair? Nose? Eyes? Tongue? Neck?"
The scissors inched closer and closer to her until I could see her cringing at the cold metal pressed against her neck. Out of the inside of my blouse, I took out a knife with a golden handle that I had carved Pacifica into.
"Now, heads or tails?" I flipped the knife in the air and caught it. "Now, be a dear and stay still?"
"Wait!"
I spun around to see someone else had gotten inside.
Gideon
"Did she leave it at home again?" I grumbled, as I picked up Pacifica's smartphone. "Better go give it to her."
I went outside, and looked around for Pacifica and Mabel, but it looked like they had left already.
"Great." I sighed. "Where are they?"
I looked down and saw Pacifica's footprints if her sneakers in the mud.
It was worth a try to follow them.
I carefully followed the footprints, until we came to the end of Gopher Road, where a chipped light blue warehouse sat on a cliff overlooking the entire town.
I didn't have time to marvel at the afternoon view, though. I wanted to hurry up and give back Pacifica's phone so I could read more of the journal.
I walked over to the door of the warehouse, and underneath it was a faint blue glow. Maybe they were in here.
I pulled out a paper clip and used to pick the locked door, until it gave a tiny click and it was thrown open in a sudden gust of wind.
"Wait!" I screamed, standing in the doorway, when I realized what was going on.
Pacifica was floating in the air surrounded by floating scissors, and Mabel was positioned to throw a knife at her.
Mabel slowly turned around, and squinted her eyes. "Oh...um...Gideon!" She squealed. "What a pleasure!"
I didn't fall for her charm. "What's going on?" I demanded.
"Oh...I-I'm...showing your sister a new magic trick, my newest act! Perfectly harmless, see?" She put down her knife and flicked her wrist in the air, making Pacifica and the scissors drop to the ground.
"She's lying!" Pacifica said. Mabel whipped around.
"One more word out of you and you'll be demon-food!" Mabel screamed.
I took a deep breath as I tried to process the current situation. "Tell me what is really going on, Mabel?" I asked calmly.
"I just wanted you to love me again, and I thought it was her fault. I am so sorry, Gideon. I never meant for it to get so...violent." She twisted a piece of hair. "I'm sorry."
"I should have broken up with you myself, not gotten Pacifica to do it. I'm sorry, but I see you more as a friend. But hey, we can still be ice cream buddies, right?"
"Really?" Mabel looked up me.
"No! Not after all of this!" I snatched away the amulet on her headband. "You just tried to kill my cousin! How much worse of a lying, rotten and selfish person can you get!?"
I held up the amulet in the air, and Mabel jumped up to reach it, but before she could I tossed it to Pacifica, who was now standing by the window. Mabel turned around and ran at Pacifica, so fast she sent her crashing through the window down a cliff and the amulet clattering to my feet.
Pacifica
I watched the ground grow closer and closer. A few seconds until impact.
I was going to die.
Not wanting to see my body collide with the ground, I closed my eyes and started to scream.
Suddenly, the moment I expected to fall onto the ground, I felt a warm aura wrap around me, slowing my fall until I was set down in a pile of leaves.
I opened my eyes to see the blue glow around me disappear and someone land next to me encased in the same aura.
"Dipper?"
Mabel
Pacifica was gone.
I smiled.
" I told you what happens to people who get in my way." I whispered.
"Did you just kill my cousin?"
His voice didn't sound angry. Instead, it just wobbled.
I turned around to see him looking down at the ground, holding the amulet in his hands. In the silence, a single tear drop slipped from his eye. I could hear the plop of it drop onto the concrete floor. He sucked in a deep breath of air and sniffles, then started to sob loudly as salty tears rained down from him. His hands curled into fists as they trembled and his legs shook.
"G...Gideon?" I asked, taking a step forward, but he looked up. In his eyes, I saw pure hatred.
"You don't deserve to wear this amulet." His fist curled tighter, until I could hear a crack. Toxic purple liquid streamed through his fingers, and he opened them up for himself to see.
But when he looked up at me again, I saw it wasn't enough. He wouldn't stop at anything to avenge his cousin.
He raised his purple fist and swung it towards me. I prepared for it to collide with my face, but it stopped. He slowly took it away.
"I'll never forgive you."
The pieces of the shattered amulet fell out of his hands along with drops of blood from the broken glass as he opened his fist, and he turned away and left.
I hadn't only killed his cousin, but I also wasted all my chances with him. Just so I could be with him.
I sank to my knees and wailed.
"Gideon!" I screamed. "I-I never meant to! Please, forgive me!"
I hadn't cried since I was 6. Then I had lost some silly doll I trusted with everything.
Now, here I was crying for the first time in 8 years for nearly the same reason: I lost the person I loved the most and his trust.
