Chapter 1
Pacifica
"Isn't this so exciting?" I asked Gideon, as we drove along in a rusty red car with our Great Uncle. "Finally, free from the city air!"
"Yep." Gideon nodded, concentrating on what he was writing. I peeked over to see him doing homework.
"Homework?" I asked, looking at the complex math problems he was currently solving.
"We got summer homework, so I'm getting it over with." He said. "I'm not sure how they do it at your private school."
"We have homework too, but we have the whole summer." I swung my legs back and forth, as I looked out the window at the passing spruces. "I'm so excited! A whole summer not in California! This should be fun."
Gideon just slowly nodded, trying to think of what X equals. "Yeah, I heard there's a lot of strange monster sightings around here. This should be cool."
Great Uncle Stan laughed. "Ha, kids are so gullible! That's all just talk, to get tourists to come out here and buy stuff. Without all these tourists, we'd just be another rural Oregon town."
I sighed. The monster thing sounded cool at first. "Oh." I said. "But we can still do a ton of fun stuff like...umm..."
I searched my brain for anything fun about Gravity Falls, but my mind was a blank. All I knew was Gravity Falls was a small, boring town in Oregon founded in the 1800s. It is said to have strange supernatural sightings, and they have made most of their money off boring roadside tourist attractions since most of their gold mines closed.
Along the side of the road, I saw a billboard.
OFF EXIT 38A, THE PINES TWINS' TENT OF TELEPATHY WILL SHOCK AND AMAZE! IN GRAVITY FALLS ONLY FROM JUNE 25th TO AUGUST 26th. WONDERS WILL DAZZLE YOU!
On the billboard was a pair of twins about me and Gideon's age, with brown hair and blue eyes. The girl with long hair had a blue blouse and a tight, black skirt, and the guy had a black cape, blue shirt, and black pants with birthmarks on his forehead in the shape of the Little Dipper. They both wore two identical blue gems, the boy on his collar and the girl on a black headband.
"Hey, what's this Tent of Telepathy?" I asked Stan, who turned off at the exit.
"Another tourist place run by those little devils." He growled. "They're almost better at scamming than me! Illusions and tricks, hah! That's all baloney. They come to Gravity Falls, their hometown, every summer, and go out across America with their shenanigans to their 'adoring fans'. I heard they're even thinking of going to Canada next year to perform."
"Well, could we at least see what we're dealing with competition-wise?" Gideon asked, as he took out his smartphone and searched up their website.
"I guess I haven't gotten a good look at their place for a few years." Stan rubbed his chin. "Whatever they have, we can get!"
We started to drive into Gravity Falls, and I guess it didn't look too bad. From the mountain we were driving down to the valley of Gravity Falls, I could get a clear view. There was a good amount of buildings, and I thought I could even see a mall! Hopefully Stan makes enough to go shopping... a lot.
Dipper
"Now that was a close one." I smirked, as I brushed a clump of dirt off if my cape. "Do you have it?"
"Yes, brother!" She nodded. "This is it! It has to be...."
Out of the rubble she walked out with a red journal that was slightly burned on the corner, and a yellow six-fingered hand with a 1 on it.
"Finally, Gravity Falls will be ours." I smiled. "Let me see!"
"Not so fast! I had to use my amulet to shield myself from our dynamite." Mabel hugged the book to her chest, rubbing soil on her blouse, and I could hear her giggle slightly. "At last, at long last," I could hear her whisper, "it is mine."
After clutching the book, she carefully picked up the cover and turned it over to the ancient, yellow pages. Her smile turned sour and her amulet started to glow.
"Sister, what is the matter?" I asked. We had the journal. What could have made her so upset?
"It's a DECOY!" She screamed, and the fake journal began to glow ablaze with blue fire burning it. "After all that work! On the first page it clearly stated that we had been tricked, played for fools!"
"Did you not check the rest of the book? Maybe it was just that page to throw us off."
"I did a full scan, Dipper, and the rest of the pages were blank or slices of age-old moldy bread pressed between sheets of paper!" Mabel kept burning the decoy in the blue, psychic flame. "How gullible they think of us!"
"We must keep searching, then. We still have until 7."
"No, it is no use." She shook her head. "Let's go back. You can get your pet demon to conduct a search while we are away from the forest and I'll meditate to see if I can reach anybody's thoughts that does know."
"Alright, sister." I nodded. "Your wishes are mine. Let's go and prepare for tonight's very first show of the summer."
We started back to town.
