Inconvenience Store: Part Seven

"The what?" Robbie asked in disbelief.

"It's a dance that Dipper had to do for one of our first performances." Mabel sniggered at the memory of her seven-year-old brother prancing around on the stage, getting laughs out of an audience. "He used to put on a lamb costume and sing a song about grazing."

Dipper's cheeks turned red with embarrassment as Mabel and Robbie started to laugh.

Wendy snorted. "I haven't seen this yet."

"And none of you ever will, because I'm not doing it," Dipper snapped.

"Aw, c'mon," Mabel said slyly, slinking up to her brother. "We're gonna get trapped in here if you don't - Pacifica's going to be stuck in a possession forever, you know -"

"If I only knew what ghost it was," Dipper grumbled.

"I'm thrilled to hear about this performance, Gleeful," Ghost-Pacifica sang. "Perhaps you need more space to do it?"

She raised her hand, which filled with blue light instantly. The shelves around them blew apart, creating a bigger space for her entertainment.

Ghost-Pacifica dropped her hand and stared intently at Dipper.

Oh no. Dipper wasn't about to do an embarrassing dance in front of everyone.

In vain, he tried to loophole his way out of it. "Well, looks like I can't do it," he said, shrugging. "I don't have a lamb costume."

Ghost-Pacifica snapped her fingers.

With a poof came even more laughter from Mabel and the rest. Dipper scowled, realizing that the ghost had somehow poofed a lamb costume onto him.

"You'll let all of us go," he said, "and leave Pacifica alone?"

"If you entertain me well enough, Gleeful." Ghost-Pacifica shrugged. "Do your dance."

"Here goes my dignity," Dipper mumbled, standing in front of the ghost. His pride was about to go down the drain with just a dance move.

He heard Gideon whisper to Robbie about something. Robbie pulled out his phone, beginning to smirk.

"No, don't you dare!" Dipper yelled, glaring at Robbie and Gideon. "Don't you dare videotape this! I'll erase your -"

"But, Dipper -" Mabel put on her baby-doll face, blinking at her brother. "You said we can't use that in public."

Dipper fumed inwardly and turned towards the ghost.

"The faster you do this, the faster we get out of here!" Wendy called.

Right. Like that was going to help his pride and dignity.

Dipper closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and mentally prepared himself for the horrors of what was about to come.

He opened his eyes and sang:

"Weeeeeeeelll . . ."

He pointed in different directions. "Who wants a lamby, lamby, lamby?"

Waving his hands was next. "I do! I do!

"So go up and greet your mammy, mammy, mammy - hi, there! Hi, there!"

Dipper started marching around the ghost. "Let's go march around the daisies - don't, don't, don't you forget about the baaabieees!"

At the final verse, he kneeled down on one knee and poked his cheek, forcing a big fat smile on his face.

Ghost-Pacifica clapped her hands, throwing her head back and laughing.

Dipper gritted his teeth. Mabel was going to pay for this.

"That was entertaining!" Ghost-Pacifica laughed, flying closer to Dipper.

"Can you let us leave, then?" Dipper snapped, starting to sweat in his costume.

Ghost-Pacifica shrugged. "Fine. As long as you don't try to capture me like that other young Gleeful."

Dipper let that information slip away; all he cared about was getting out of the lamb costume and away from the store as far as he could. "Then get out of her body."

Ghost-Pacifica's blue-glowing eyes faded, and her eyes rolled into the back of her head. She fell backwards as the ghost flew out of her body.

The costume that Dipper wore vanished as he jumped forwards and caught Pacifica.

The ghost let out a tsk tsk. "Don't think that was worth, saving a pretty girl like that."

Dipper glanced up.

The ghost was a little boy, about eight years old. He wore a heavy winter coat, a sweater underneath, regular old pants, and glowing Sunday shoes. His arms were crossed, and he was staring at Dipper and Pacifica with an irritated look.

Dipper heard an exasperated shout. "That's the ghost?!" Robbie's voice exclaimed, running up to Pacifica. "Oh, gosh -"

Robbie took Pacifica from Dipper's arms and hoisted her into his arms. "We'd better get you all home," Robbie said.

Dipper jumped up, noticing that Tambry, Lee, and Nate were on the floor, groaning and rubbing their heads. Home sounded nice.

Mabel joined her brother, staring at him with an irritated look. "And you just had to save her again, huh?"

Dipper folded his arms, sticking his nose up in the air. "Important."

"Sure." Mabel rolled her eyes; then a sneaky smirk came across her face.

"No," Dipper said sharply. He knew that face all too well. "Don't you dare."

Mabel only sweetly smiled.

Gideon was anxious to get back to the Mystery Shack more than ever. Robbie had managed to put Pacifica in the back seat of the car, where Pacifica immediately curled up and moaned, holding her stomach.

Pacifica creaked open an eye. "Where am I?" she muttered.

"Long story," Gideon said. "I'll tell you tomorrow."

Pacifica squinted at her armrest. "Who wrote this?" she mumbled, holding her stomach tighter. "I don't look nice right now."

Gideon just chuckled and patted his cousin's shoulders. "Hang in there, Paz."

The van made its roundabouts over Gravity Falls and dropped off everyone at their respective places (the Gleeful Mansion looked so elegant and intimidating) before pulling into the driveway of the Mystery Shack. Robbie helped Pacifica out of the back seat and assisted her inside.

"How do you feel?" he asked once they reached the door.

"Like I'm gonna throw up," Pacifica moaned, clutching her stomach again.

Gideon rang the doorbell. In almost no time at all, the door swung open to reveal Priscilla and Preston Southeast, looking worried.

"Pacifica!" Priscilla cried, immediately hugging her daughter. "We didn't get any calls, we were so worried -"

Gideon hopped into the house, kicking off his shoes. "The lines were down where we were," he explained.

"She, um, overdosed on candy," Robbie added. "Like, a lot."

"She never could eat too much candy, anyway," Preston mused. "Thanks for bringing them home, Robbie."

Gideon rubbed his eyes, suddenly feeling exhausted, and noticed that Ford was standing in the doorway to the living room, looking tired as well.

Then Ford gestured for Gideon to join him. He did, and at once Ford began to talk.

"What happened at the store?" Ford asked.

"Lots of things." Gideon sighed, rubbing his head as a headache exploded in his temple. "Pacifica ate a bunch of something called Smile Dip -"

"That still exists in America?" Ford sounded incredulous. "I thought that was banned."

"You've heard of it?"

"Heard of it? Pacifica found that when she was younger. I banned it from the Mystery Shack altogether."

"Oh - and there was also a ghost," Gideon added. "He kinda possessed Pacifica."

Now Ford looked concerned, amused, and worried all at once. "A ghost?" he said.

"Yeah, he looked like he was eight or something like that."

"Eight," Ford muttered. He stared off into the distance. "An eight-year-old ghost . . ."

Gideon waited patiently until he heard Pacifica run from the other room at once.

Ford shook his head, bringing himself back to reality. "Where's Pacifica?" he asked, noticing that she had fled the scene.

Gideon shrugged. "Probably sick."

He joined his uncle and Robbie in the kitchen. It was incredibly late for Gideon, and he was tired, but he also wanted to make sure his cousin was all right. (She had been possessed by a ghost and had gorged on hallucination candy in two hours.)

So, about half an hour later, Gideon crawled into his bed and drew the covers up around him. Pacifica was going to be okay, he told himself. She would be all right. Ford was here, after all, and he was probably the best thing to a doctor that the Southeasts had.

And, from what Ford and Pacifica's parents had said, Pacifica was definitely sick, but she would be fine as long as she rested for the next few days.

Gideon snuggled up under his covers.

A gnome monster, a psychic, and a ghost.

He wondered what the summer would bring next.
