Inconvenience Store: Part Five

The ghost was, in fact, hiding from the intruders.

He had a good reason to. The ghost had not-so-fond memories of a young Gleeful, chasing him down a hall while the Gleeful's  brother ran after the whole ordeal.

So the ghost watched as two new Gleeful twins walked around in the store, one of them clinging onto a white-haired boy who looked annoyed.

"I don't get it," the Gleeful boy said at last. "I can usually sense ghosts right away."

"Maybe this one doesn't like you," the white-haired boy retorted, trying to escape from the girl's grasp and failing.

The ghost smirked. Exactly.

"So do you want to catch it?" the Gleeful boy snapped.

There was a beat of silence. Then the white-haired boy mumbled something that the ghost couldn't hear.

The Gleeful boy just rolled his eyes. "Let's go."

The ghost rolled his eyes and turned away from the twins. Enough of that scene.

The next thing he saw was the redhead and the black-haired boy. What had Cipher called them? Oh, right - Ice Bag and Stitched Heart.

Meh. They were only watching an insane thirteen-year-old run around like crazy.

The ghost must've drifted too close to the floor, for the next thing he heard was "THERE IT IS!"

The ghost turned around and caught a glimpse of brown hair - a Gleeful.

The ghost shot up towards the ceiling.

"Get back here!" the Gleeful boy shouted.

Ha. As if.

Boxes of expired food sailed past the ghost, far out of his reach. He glanced back and almost immediately smirked again - there was no way the Gleefuls would use their powers in public.

"Ghost, I swear, get down here," the Gleeful threatened.

The ghost cupped his hands around his mouth and yelled, Never!

(Humans would only hear a ghost's talking as a whisper, but the holders of amulets could hear a ghost's speech better.)

The Gleeful scowled. "Stop haunting this store, then."

Why? The ghost taunted. You didn't seem to care when those ghosts haunted the library a couple years ago.

The Gleeful crossed his arms. "Do you want to be used for our shows?"

The ghost stopped.

That was it.

NO! the ghost shouted.

"So come here, let me catch you, and everything's good."

Nuh-uh - of course not.

The Gleeful jumped forward, touching his amulet and his hands glowing blue -

- and falling to the ground as the ghost shot up.

"COME HERE!" the Gleeful shouted.

The ghost swerved around shelves, hearing the Gleeful's running footsteps behind him. He couldn't get caught again, not by another Gleeful - no no no -

Aha.

He spotted his hiding spot not seconds later. Perfect hiding spot, if he said so himself.

And the ghost dove headfirst into the body of the blonde-haired girl.

Dipper gritted his teeth. The ghost had disappeared - again. Where had it even gone off to?

"I'm right here."

Dipper whirled around to face a sight that was truly frightening.

Pacifica was up in the air, floating several feet off the ground. Her eyes were nothing but a blue glow as her hands filled with blue light.

A sickening grin stretched across her face.

"Get out of her," Dipper demanded.

"Don't think so," a childish voice said, the new voice high-pitched like a small boy's. "You'll have to get past me."

"Just get out of her!" Dipper yelled. "You don't have any rights possessing people!"

"This is my store, Gleeful." Pacifica threw her head back and laughed. "How dare you fight against me?"

Only one solution came to Dipper's mind, and he didn't like it one bit.

So he tried reasoning with the ghost instead: "Listen, if you just move on out of her body, then we can capture you and everything will be -"

A yell echoed throughout the store, forcing everyone to stop and freeze. "Don't you get it?" the ghost roared. "I don't want to be captured!"

"You're going to terrorize the store!" Dipper yelled.

"Since when did a Gleeful care about the town?" the ghost spat. "It's my turn to capture you."

The ghost zoomed towards Dipper, who immediately whirled around and ran for his life.

Plan B was the only solution left.

Dipper spotted Mabel and her latest obsession (oh, right - Gideon) by a shelf full of expired soap and bathroom equipment.

"Pines!" he yelled. "Come here!"

Gideon looked relieved to leave Mabel as he squirmed out of her grasp and ran over to Dipper. "What?" Gideon said, looking unsure of how to react now.

Dipper pointed to the ghost. "There."

Gideon's jaw dropped in horror.

There was the ghost, currently inhabiting Pacifica's body and grinning, her eyes nothing but blue light.

"Pacifica?" Gideon's voice trembled.

Pacifica laughed. (Why did her laugh sound like a little kid's laugh now?) "Ignorant Pines," she said, her voice echoing. "I'm not your cousin."

"Th-this is a trick!" Gideon cried, turning to the Gleeful. "You did it with your amulet, right?"

The Gleeful stared back at Gideon. "No. It's not a trick."

Gideon wanted to cry. This wasn't how the night was supposed to go! He was supposed to be a matchmaker for Robbie and Wendy, that was it - Pacifica wasn't supposed to get possessed!

The Gleeful said nothing and instead stared at the ghost.

"Release her now or I will capture you, ghost," he threatened.

Gideon blinked in surprise. He wasn't actually sure if the Gleefuls had caring emotions before now.

Pacifica growled, her blue-lit hands becoming even brighter.

Gideon heard someone yelp in fear. He glanced back to see Robbie, his eyes wide and small, looking up at Pacifica. Wendy had a frightened expression on her face.

"Pacifica?" Robbie cried.

"It's not Pacifica," the Gleeful boy said. "There was a ghost haunting this store. We made it mad and now he's possessed her."

"Wonderful," Robbie squeaked. "Ford and her parents are going to murder me."

Pacifica scoffed. "I'm already dead, human. Pacifica's just in danger of losing all her energy from eating too much Smile Dip - oh, and me, I guess."

"Oh, Mabel!" the Gleeful called, glancing back. "I have a new exhibit for the Tent of -"

Pacifica looked around, grabbed an empty milk bottle, and snapped her fingers.

In a flash of blue light, the Gleeful boy had shrunk and was now trapped inside the milk bottle.

"Dipper?" Mabel was suddenly beside Gideon, looking horrified at her shrunk brother. "Dipper!"

She rushed forward. "Let him go -"

Wendy grabbed Mabel's wrist before the Gleeful girl could do anything. "Stay back," she ordered. "I'm in charge of you tonight."

Mabel swatted Wendy's hand away. "You're not my evil babysitter, are you?"

Wendy narrowed her eyes. "For now, I am!" she barked. "Get back here!"

Mabel, taken aback, quickly joined Wendy and Robbie without hesitation or complaint.

Great. It was up to Gideon now. Maybe he could pull out Ford's journal and flip through it - no, he didn't trust anything in sight of Mabel now -

It wasn't long before Robbie's friends joined them. "What's going on here?" Tambry said.

Then she spotted the possessed Pacifica floating above them.

Ghost-Pacifica scowled. "Teenagers! Curse all of you!"

She snapped her fingers, and soon Tambry was stuck on the ceiling, hanging from nothing but her clothes.

"Tambry!" Wendy cried, forgetting her babysitting duties.

"Why do you hate teenagers?" Gideon cried. He was a teenager, and it didn't make him feel safe at all if this ghost was against it. "You're not even that old!"

"Eight-year-olds can hate teenagers, too," Ghost-Pacifica retorted. "Now that you're all here, together, you're all trapped!"

Robbie darted from the current event and returned moments later, looking worried. "The door's locked!"

"Try the phones!" Wendy said.

"The phone lines are down, I tried to call Ford earlier!" Gideon cried, his heart beating faster. "We really are trapped!"
