To Tell You The Truth
Had this idea suddenly, and it's been awhile since I posted a oneshot. I've been focusing more on my stories rather than these, and I'd like to get back into them. Send in ideas please!
Also, I planned for this to be a short oneshot, but I realized that once you get stubborn Dipper and stubborn Pacifica talking, they don't stop 😂. Hope y'all enjoy!
"So, what's the issue here?" Gideon asked, looking at the forest.
"Ugh, you don't get it." One half of the Gleeful twins scoffed. "This forest makes you spill your secrets, one way or another."
Dipper snorted and looked at his sister. "I'm sorry, I've read many long and obscure passages about the unknown, however I have never read anything about a truth-telling forest ."
Pacifica watched Mabel glare at her brother. This was really not her day. Pacifica had planned to take it easy today, but she ended up getting dragged along with the Gleeful twins on a monster hunt.
"Look, to catch the creature," Mabel sighed, "we need to go through there."
Dipper led them into the darkened woods. "Well, come on, this should take ten minutes."
Once they walked through for awhile, no one said a word. Pacifica knew how their relationship worked. They weren't friends so much as they were partners.
She and Gideon got along swell, because they were cousins. And Mabel and Dipper got along (well, more or less) because they were twins. However neither from either group seemed to be friends with the others.
They just handled situations together.
"Gosh, I'm so hungry, I really shouldn't have eaten that taco I found in the living room." Gideon said suddenly.
Everyone froze, even Gideon.
"Um, what?" Pacifica looked over at him.
"What the heck?!" Gideon exclaimed. "Why the heck did I just say that?!"
Mabel smirked. "This place will rip the truth out of you. Whether you want it to or not."
Right on cue Mabel froze. "I swear the tension between those two is thick enough to cut with a knife! It's driving me crazy!"
Dipper raised a brow at his sister. "What the hell are you talking about, Mabel?"
Gideon frowned. "Those two? Which two?"
Pacifica sighed and kept her mouth shut. She knew if she opened her lips, a random truth would come flying out.
Dipper sighed. "Well, it's a shame that you and that buffoon have too many secrets." He glanced between Mabel and Gideon. "I'm assuming that's why you're spewing more than Gideon on the Tilt-a-Whirl."
Gideon looked flustered. "H-hey!"
"And you don't have any secrets?" Pacifica couldn't help but ask the egotistical twin. "I figured someone like you would have killed someone to keep your secrets quiet."
"It's never come to that, but I appreciate that you're thinking of me, sweetheart." Dipper smirked.
"Was that a partial truth?" Gideon asked, "never coming to killing someone?"
Dipper shrugged. "I suppose my secrets are just too secret for the woods to handle." He laughed lightly. "Trust me, it's better this way. Now, let's keep moving."
The four continued on through their trek in the woods, with both Mabel and Gideon spitting out some occasional truths.
However, as soon as they entered a more sinister part of the forest, something in Pacifica compelled her to speak it or she would lose her mind.
"Sometimes I feel like you only want me around when it pleases you, and it's getting annoying!" She spat.
Everyone froze.
Mabel raised a brow. "Okay, I hear you, but who is that directed at?"
Pacifica flushed. Did she seriously just say that out loud?! The good thing was that no one seemed to know who she was talking about. The issue being the fact that there were only three other people it could be.
Her secret would be figured out easily.
"We're not friends exactly, but I never invite you to be with me." Mabel pondered.
"Well then it can't be Mabel." Gideon nodded along. "You don't mean me, do you Paz?"
"No! Of course not!" Pacifica had to reassure her cousin, which meant. . .oh no.
Dipper appeared unfazed by this stunning revelation. "I suppose it doesn't matter, we should stick to the mission at hand." He walked a few more feet ahead before turning back to the group. "Well, are you coming?"
"Wait a minute," Gideon held up a hand. "If it's not me, or Mabel, could it be you, Dipper?"
Again, Dipper appeared unfazed. "Of course it wouldn't be me. In case you haven't noticed, it doesn't have to specifically be someone in this group."
Pacifica continued to keep her mouth shut. The more Dipper spoke, the more she felt the urge to speak up.
"But think about it." Mabel reasoned. "Only wanted around when it pleases you? I'm sorry, but who does that sound like?"
"In all honesty, it could be anyone." Dipper rolled his eyes. "Yes, that does sound like me. Now, can we keep moving before it gets worse?"
"Gets worse?" Pacifica furrowed her brows. "What? You mean you're afraid you'll say something?"
"I think this forest wants my secrets to remain secret." Dipper admitted. He thought about it for a moment, considering where they were. "I mean, my secrets are too secret." He amended.
"It'll drag it outta ya." Gideon added, unhelpfully. "So, it's either involuntary or you could just tell us now!"
"I'd rather not." Dipper shook his head and pressed forward.
Two minutes passed before the next secret was spilled.
"Okay! I locked Dipper and Paz in the closet and blamed it on the ghost!" Mabel shrieked.
And like before, everyone froze.
Pacifica was the first to react. "You did what?!"
"I'm sorry!" Mabel swore under her breath. "You guys were just getting on mine and Gideon's nerves. With your constant bickering, I figured that if I locked you guys in there, something would come of it."
"Yeah, well that was never gonna happen." Pacifica sighed and shook her head. "Dipper doesn't like me like that. He only wants me around when there's no other girl to piss off."
Silence echoed across the near-empty forest, encasing around the area the four teens were.
Gideon was the first to figure it out, smart guy. "Wait, so you were talking about Dipper!"
Dipper had turned his back to the group. He'd gone as silent as the woods around them.
Pacifica hardly registered what she said. "Oh my gosh, did I really say that out loud?"
Gideon nodded. "Yup."
"Yes, I was talking about Dipper." Pacifica sighed. "But now that it's out in the open, there really isn't anything that can be done about it, let's just keep going."
Mabel and Gideon walked past Dipper ahead into the deepest part of the woods, while Pacifica stayed back a moment.
"Hey, Dipper?" Pacifica started slowly. "I hope this doesn't change anything. I get it, you don't like me. Let's just pretend this never happened. Alright?"
"Mhm." came Dipper's tight-lipped reply. He still wasn't facing her.
Pacifica raised a brow. "Um, Dipper? You okay?"
He nodded, still not saying a word. Geez, he really did not want his secrets out.
"Okay, I get it," she sighed, "you don't wanna spill you secrets. I get that your secrets are 'too secret', but honestly, I feel better getting that off my chest."
Dipper shook his head.
"Honestly, you must have the strongest willpower of all of us." Pacifica laughed, trying to keep the atmosphere light-hearted. "You haven't spoken a single secret this entire time."
"Mm."
"I mean, now that you know how I feel about you, I guess it doesn't matter what else I spew." She laughed and shook her head. "Y'know, that night when the ghost —or should I say Mabel— locked us in that closet together, after we spent some time talking, I kinda thought you were going to kiss me."
Dipper's body visibly shuddered.
"Yeah, I know, stupid, right?" Pacifica sighed. "Look, I'm really sorry this got put upon you. Had I known the truth about these woods I would've suggested we go around."
She moved past him and tried to catch up to Mabel and Gideon.
"I wanted to!"
Pacifica froze. She turned to look back at the egotistical maniac. Her eyes widened at the sight.
There was sweat on his brow, eyes wide with an expression she'd never read on the Gleeful twin; fear. His hand covered his mouth, while the other one shook at his side.
"My god," Pacifica murmured. "All those single-syllabled replies, it all makes sense. You were resisting! How?"
Dipper sighed and removed the hand from his mouth. "Like I said, my secrets are too secret."
"You knew if you opened your mouth for more than a second you would spill!" Pacifica accused. "Was it so bad to tell the truth?"
"Did you even hear what I said?" Dipper demanded. "I wanted to kiss you. That night, when we were locked in together."
"Well, why didn't you?!" Pacifica stalked back to him and glared.
Dipper took a deep breath, forcing himself to remain calm. "If you remember the gist of that evening, Pacifica, you spent a majority of the time in the closet explaining your boy problems with Cody Chiu."
Pacifica blushed. Right. When she thought she had a crush on Gideon's friend, Cody.
"So I held back." Dipper admitted. "I assumed that my chances with you were shot and that was on me. So, I didn't kiss you."
"We're alone now." Pacifica said before thinking.
A wicked breeze swept through the woods, chilling the very core of Pacifica. She couldn't even believe that she said that, much less than she could believe she confessed to Dipper and he was confessing back!
Dipper glanced over his shoulder to make sure they weren't being watched. "Yes. Yes we are." Very smooth, Dipper, wow, he thought to himself.
"Well, seeing as we're in a truth-telling forest, you'll have to answer my questions honestly!" She exclaimed, pumping a fist in the air.
"I can't believe I like you." Dipper shook his head, a teasing grin forming on his lips.
"You wanted to kiss me in that closet?"
"Yes." it's instant.
"Do you want a second chance?"
"Yes." it's needing.
Pacifica smiled. She leaned closer to him and pressed a light kiss to his lips. Once she pulled away, she noticed Dipper's sour expression. "What?"
"You call that a kiss?" Dipper snorted, moving toward her.
Pacifica skillfully dodged out of the way. "Ah ah ah. Weren't you the one who said we should focus on the mission at hand?"
"Yes, bur now I have other things on my mind." Dipper said without missing a beat.
"Come on, Dipper," Pacifica held out her hand to him. "Let's get rid of this monster, and then we're going to have a nice, lengthy discussion about whatever this is."
Dipper laced his fingers with hers as they walked into the darkest part of the woods. "Alright. Can it be anywhere but here?"
"Nope. Here. Need you to be honest with me." Pacifica laughed.
"I'll be honest with you, I swear." Dipper promised. And that seemed like a great place to start.
