P E A S A N T G I R L (5/5)

Days could not have gone by quicker, the day of bride-choosing had come. of course, both Dipper's father and mother did not mention he had to pick his bride of choice at the place and at the time, but it seemed as though they wanted it. What Dipper wanted the most, was just to get this over and done with, so he could pretend he never did this, and when the wedding came, he'd just think of it as an arranged marriage  he picked out for himself. The consequences were his, he just had to make the right choice.

This semi-formal event or exhibition, if you will, was being held in the dining room.

First, Princess Lucia Rosaria de La Tout. The girl was physically pretty and stood in a calm wonder, looking around the dining room with dreamy eyes. Lucia had waist-length platinum hair that was tied back in a neat ponytail. She seemed out of focus and wasn't even trying to sell herself as a bride. Dipper shook her hand but it took her a few seconds to realise he was actually addressing her.

Second, Princess Adaliya Adelaide Bankole. She had piercing brown eyes and seemed very alert. She held herself high, as if looking down on her other 'competitors'. Dipper liked that, she seemed bright as well, but when  Dipper wanted to shake Adaliya hand but she only shook his hand when a man who stood next the door urged her to do so. Now, that was something Dipper definitely didn't like. Even though there was a hierarchy between both King and Queen, both should rule as equal leaders.

Third, Princess Lorraine Helena Caroline Alberta Rose-Jean. She had an awful face, there was nothing to compliment about her at all. She was hideous and her manners wouldn't even pass for a peasant's. Dipper was inspecting how ugly she was when she gave her a wink. He swore he heard Mabel fake cough from a far corner of the room. Dipper chose not to shake her hand at all, and Lorraine pouted sadly when he moved on to the next girl.

Fourth, Princess Isabel Gabrielle Rodriguez. The girl smiled nervously, but almost stared in awe at Dipper. Not sure what she was staring at, he looked behind him to see Mabel shrug nonchalantly. 'I know you won't choose me,' The girl whispered, Dipper leaned in close to listen. 'but I think you're really really handsome.' Isabel giggled, as she straightened herself after intensive staring from a white-haired woman standing by the door. Dipper shook her hand quite willingly.

Fifth and last, Princess Elise Estella Paige South-East. She was absent? Dipper turned to Mabel who now shrugged because she, too, didn't know what was going on.

'Is she even here?' Dipper asked people around him, even Mother and Father looked at each other curiously.

'Yes, sorry. I'm here.' A dirty blonde girl rushed into the room, she hopped a few times as she struggled to pull her heel onto her foot, and clickity-clacked her way into the line as well.

'What are you doing here?' Dipper stared wide-eyed at the girl, who was half untangling her hair with her fingers and half fixing her tiara on her head.

'What am I doing here? Just the same as everyone else?' The girl motioned at Lucia, Adaliya, Lorraine and Isabel next to her.

'No, Pacifica, I'm asking you. What are you doing here?' Dipper repeated at the dirty blonde girl, who was looking at her surroundings curiously.

'I'm here to fulfill duties. Got it?' She said, not breaking eye contact with the dove carved in gold on the ceiling.

'What duties would that be?'

'Royal ones.' She tilted her head to get a better look at the silver sculpture of the royal family. 'Can you move?' Pacifica swatted Dipper away as he shuffled away hesitantly. 'I do admit they did a bad job on your face.'

'What?'

'That sculpture, it doesn't do your face justice.' Pacifica grinned cheekily.

'That's off-topic. You're a princess?'

'Sure, say that if you will.'

'Then why are you parents in the city? And why are they... peasants? Why didn't you tell me?' A million thoughts may have raced and rumbled through Dipper's head at the moment but all he could ask was that.

'You need to understand. I- My family has their own way of doing things.' Pacifica started. 'My parents are in the city of course, but also not. I came by myself, hence why I'm so tardy, they won't be arriving here at all, so save the teapots. My parents aren't peasants, stupid, but we just found good 'actors', we paid a hefty sum, if anyone asked who my parents were, it was Marcy and Pete from the city, not Preston and Priscilla South-East from that kingdom far far away.' She gestured by her hand flying upwards elegantly.

Every other princess was now watching as Pacifica and Dipper laughed and talked freely with each other.

It was as if they had met each other, maybe once in the past.

And perhaps it was only so simple, a tale of a young boy and a peasant girl.
