'No. I want you to explain.' Dipper urged Pacifica on.
'The way you talk.'
'What about it?' Dipper really didn't like where this conversation was going, but he had tried his best to fit in.
'It's so, upper-class, you sound rich, like you're some son of a lord, or a king. It's crazy. And then you way you walk...' Pacifica was hesitant, she was attempting not to seem rude, but she was accusing him of being rich, wasn't she? Isn't being rich a compliment then?
'What about that then?' Dipper's eyes narrowed suspiciously.
'You walk like you don't have a care in the world, like you know where you're going, but you don't?' Pacifica's palms sprang to life at the motionless air, gesturing in all directions. Then she rubbed her head, she seemed just as confused as Dipper was.
'Without a care in the world? Surely not.'
'But you do.'
'And then... and then...' Pacifica's uncertainty peaked here. Even she didn't know where she was going with this. 'And then... nothing.'
'So you think I'm rich?'
'Sure, say that if you will.' Pacifica hugged her knees close to her, still looking away.
'It's not entirely a bad thing to accuse someone of though.' Dipper tilted his head to look at Pacifica.
'Ben, I don't know if you get what I'm trying to say.' Pacifica shifted her eyes away from the floor to the mountains far far away.
'Then tell me what you're trying to say.'
'I don't know if I should've taken you around today, I'm sorry. If you're rich then... then it probably means you have some type of status. And... and if you do, then you've heard me talk about all these things, these bad things about this city. What if you hate it even more? What if I hurt people by just guiding you around? If you have influence then what I have done and said today will change the way you saw this city.'
'Even if you did change the way I saw this place, you beautified the image of this place in my head. Don't worry.'
Dipper placed a hand on Pacifica's shoulder, making her eyes shoot right back into his with shock. He couldn't tell if they were of shock or realisation. This girl didn't work out who he was, it made him feel more powerful in a way, he was free from the restraints of being royalty, of being the son of the King. Pacifica made him feel true to himself, like he could do whatever he wanted without tarnishing the reputation of his parents, he could do things by himself, and face the consequences of his actions by himself, and for that he could just cut ties with his royal family.
'Alright.' Pacifica said.
Dusk was approaching very soon, Dipper had to go.
'I have to go.'
'You do?' Pacifica asked, Dipper hopped off the brick wall and Pacifica followed suit.
'Yes.'
'Will I see you again then? Or ever? You were so sure that you'd never see me again, it almost sounded like you can never return, you can right?' Pacifica's expression was still gloomy.
'No, I don't think so, I'm sorry.'
'Don't be, it's not your fault.' Pacifica smiled, Dipper almost saw her lip quiver but he didn't.
'I'll see you, maybe some other time.' He nodded.
'Yes.' And having said that, Pacifica gave a curtsey and half-bow. A smile twinkled on her face.
'Are you happy that I'm leaving?' Asked Dipped, shocked. He swore he heard that she said she enjoyed taking him around, maybe not?
'No, I'm just happy. Go, if you need to. You probably have your mother to tend to. And your sister.'
'Yes, them, I'll get going now- my mother and sister? How do you know I have a sister?'
'I just do, heir to the royal throne. Now go, I'm sure The Princess will grow worried if you do get back,' Pacifica looked out at the setting sun, 'soon.'
Dipper chuckled, 'You're quite bright.'
'So I am, but so are you. You have lots set ahead for your future, don't let today's little trip with me ruin you.'
'I won't, Pacifica.' And he smiled, so sincerely and widely that he almost felt his face hurting. 'We'll see each other another day.'
'Another day. Far far away?' Pacifica asked.
'Far far away.' Dipper confirmed. 'So far away the sun can't touch us.'
Pacifica's head bobbed up and down with glee. The two embraced each other. 'Goodbye, heir to the throne- or should I say, Dipper.' She said, her smile never fading.
'See you.'
Pacifica waved until Dipper faded away as a tiny spot, then returned home, deciding whether she should tell her parents she met the crown prince of their country.
Dipper was approaching the castle wall when a girl pulled him through the door by the castle wall.
'You're terrifyingly late, how am I gonna sneak you in now?' She snarled, leading Dipper through the twists and turns of the underground of the castle.
'Mabel, it's amazing out there. The sights are breathtaking, truly, and I mean I almost threw up, but for the rest of it it was great!'
'You almost threw up? Do we really need to call a doctor for you now?' Mabel laughed sarcastically.
'And I met a girl-'
'A girl?' Mabel looked back at him worriedly, 'Whatdoyoumeanagirl?'
'What?'
'What-do-you-mean-a-girl?'
'I said what I said, Mabel.'
'And you feel in... ugh... love?' Mabel slowed her pace but continued to look out for her parents or any maids that either of them knew better than others.
'What? No.' Dipper peeked out to look his sister in the eye but his older twin was much too focused on deciphering his means of 'I met a girl'.
'You better not be thinking of marrying anyone else other than Princess Lorraine.'
'Why can't I have other options.'
'Take that up with Mother and Father.'
'I will.'
Mabel turned around, silence engulfed the long corridor that they were now in. And, he didn't even see it coming. Mabel had raised her hand and slapped her own brother across the face, not even a slice of regret on her already stoney face.
'What was that for?' Dipper rubbed his face where his sister had just hit him.
'For breaking your promise. You said you'd comply with Mother and Father's wishes if I granted you your freedom for a day.'
'I'm not breaking the promise, I just want to see my options.'
'As I said,' Mabel grit her teeth through a fake smile, 'Take. It. Up. With. Mother. And. Father.'
'And I said, I. Would.' Dipper enunciated each word loudly.
'Ah, darling you are feeling better?' A woman had just entered the corridor, it was Dipper and Mabel's mother.
'Good afternoon, Mother.' Mabel curtseyed politely, the way her back was so stiff and straight reminded Dipper of how Pacifica did her's, she was bowing and curtseying all over the place, it was so clear to see that she was so unused to the idea. 'I was taking brother dearest out for a small walk.' A smile plastered over her fake, so stiff, so artificial.
'Hello, Mother.' Dipper bowed downwards, but his mother urged him not to due to his sickness. He assured her that he was feeling 'much' better and they walked to dinner together.
During dinner, Dipper felt jumpy in a way he had never felt before, he wanted to move, to go out, to do something other than sit down for another few hours to have some boring old dinner.
Today was special, even Dipper and Mabel's father was here. That meant that everything had to be better than spotless, better than clean and better than perfect.
'I was thinking.' Dipper said out of the blue, making his father, mother and Mabel look up at him, breaking the silence.
Mabel made an unpleased noise.
'Yes? What were you thinking about, son?' Father said. Dipper would've expected his mother to reply but today was different.
'I was thinking, if I had more choices other than Princess Lorraine? I spent the whole day cooped up in my room that I gave a lot of thought to this matter.' Dipper said, cutting a slice of ham cleanly in two as he did.
'Of course, you do, sweetheart. Why do you ask? Are you wanting to see all the potential princesses you can wed? Have you finally got round to thinking about a wife?' His mother added, nodding towards his father. Mabel remained silent.
'Yes, I am.' Dipper only repeated.
'That's great Dipper, to hear you say that.' His father praised, beckoning a valet over and whispering something to him. The valet nodded through sentences and scurried off after the King sat back down comfortably.
The dinner resumed as if nothing happened.
'Can't believe that went so smoothly, I just planning the perfect coup d'etat just in case your place came crumbling down.' Mabel examined her already-perfect nails.
'Well it certainly did and as we both heard, I'll being seeing them next week or sooner.'
'Go you!' Mabel raised her arms funnily and retreated to her room
